Well some of the early reviews sent to AICN were fairly positive.

I don't know if they were real or not though, or maybe they were from those "friends & family"

I agree. Singer cut the wrong scenes but it's hard to think which scenes should've been removed in their place. The part with Luthor and the old lady, Clark as a kid, some of Supes at the hospital and him and Lois flying...and that's it. SR had too big and slow of a story.

I don't really have much against Singer though so I'm glad that Valkyrie is doing pretty well.

If you cut all the Luthor scenes the movie speeds up quite a bit. His plot line moves so incredibly slowly.

I liked the first X-Men but I recall leaving the theater thinking it didn't live up to its full potential. It's been so long since I've seen it that I can't remember what I was disappointed with.

STORM! I will never forgive him for shafting my favorite X-men character.

"Too long" is "too long" no matter who you ask. LOTR only got away with it because it had like, a gazillion characters. And even then I wanted to push Frodo into the stupid boat at the end. There's only so much drama you can wring out of Superman, Lois, and Lex Luthor.

The problem was not with the cutting of the flick it was with the script. Dougherty, Harris and Singer screwed up when they didn't tighten the damn thing. 3hr's is almost always too long for any movie because the screenplays are not tighten enough now or days. Hell, I thought that an easy 10 to 15 minutes could have been cut out of TDK but no, hollywood is now obsessed with making every movie needlessly long.

Since it's pretty common knowledge at this point that chances are very slim of Singer having an active hand in the next film - why don't you just close this thread. It's kind of pointless now, don't you think?

I disagree but it may only be that if you cut out the lex luthor scenes, the movie is less than half as amazing as it is. Kevin Spacey was AMAZING in SR. He fit into that role as good as heath did the joker. I found myself the first time I saw it in theaters wondering when lex was gonna be back every time he wasnt on screen.

GOOD GOD I want a sequel and not a reboot, Kevin Spacey is by far the best on screen lex ever, bar none, and Brandon Routh did an excellent job as well.

It shouldn't be a question of whether a scene is "good." The flashback scene of Clark running in the corn was great, in terms of sheer film-making. Tons of people busted their butts to make it a great scene, on its own.

The problem was that it didn't advance the movie's story. At all. It would have been better suited for a Smallville pilot than SR. I'm at a loss to explain why it was even in the script.

Like the opening scene with Lex Luthor, too. Why did we have to know how he got his money? Yes, it was also to show how eville he is, but they could have done that while actually advancing the story, too. The old lady and her family showed up for 5 minutes and then disappeared.

I don't have a problem with anyone liking spacey as Lex. I personally didnt and I think he is far from the best Lex ever. I was really hoping we would get to finally move on from the hackman lex when S.R. was announced but alas, no.

Yes, i'll give you that Spacey was a little more serious in his portrayal, but not enough (for me anyway)

As for the Best onscreen Lex-as much as I now dislike S.V., i'd have to say Rosenbaum gets that nod from me. THAT is Lex IMVHO.

I don't think Spacey's performance was bad, I think the version of Lex was the problem. Spacey did all he could do with what was given. What more can you ask.

I think it was both. Meaning that his version of Lex was a problem, no doubt, but honestly I don't remember the last time I saw Spacey tackling a role as he should and not playing himself under various circumstances.

But what do I know? My favorite Lex was John Shea. Class act.

Personally, i'd like to see a Lex that is much closer to Clark's age or slightly older.
maybe mid to late 30's.
A lex thats old enough to have formed Lex-corp, but still young enough that he craves the spotlight.
