Civil War The Official Captain America: Civil War News & Speculation Thread - Part 1

Interestingly enough, that was a scene Edward Norton really wanted and was mad when it was cut (he had been led to believe he had greater creative control than he actually had). Scenes like that were cut because they wanted to increase the action in the movie, but it's a cool scene. That being said, it's a fine scene as a deleted scene. You can watch it whenever you want and Mark Ruffalo's verbal delivery works just as well.

It's kinda like a one-shot.

I hope the Russos let Henry Jackman do his own thing for CA:CW. I'm rewatching TWS, and the film is still fantastic -- but the score sticks out like a sore thumb. It would be nice if Jackman actually uses Silvestri's CA theme and Brian Tyler's IM3 theme for once, or at least reference them. Whenever Jackman is given the chance to not follow a temp track -- he can put out some marvelous stuff.

I know TWS is mostly a political thriller dressed up like a superhero sequel, but the score should've been so much better. The movie elevates the score, rather than the other way around.

What? The score was amazing! Winter Soldier's theme>>>>>>>>>>>>

I do agree that we need more of The First Avenger's theme tho, its iconic at this point.

The WS theme was great.

The rest of the score, not so much.

Eh, opinions. I thought Jackman did amazing things with the score.

YMMV.

The score of TWS was the one thing I hated about the film. The First Avenger theme was the single bright moment. Jackman's work was discordant, disjointed and harsh on the ears. I had hoped he would be unavailable for CW but no such luck. :csad:

I thought "Taking a Stand" was one of the best themes ever used in a Marvel film. I listen to it all the time.

I would love to see Abomination again

I would love to see Sinister Six vs. Masters of Evil movie :D
S.S vs. Abomination, Crossbones, Graviton, Leader, Jotun monster etc. etc.

Oh... Kurse is dead?

Cap 2 score is pretty sweet. I like it even more than the first Thor ost.

The score when Cap is taking out the Quinjet was awesome and inspiring. The rest of the score? It was meh IMO.

For me, the score for CW:TWS was forgettable, as in I can't remember any of it. Nothing stood out. There was no hook, only sounds and noise similar to a television drama. And I saw the film three times in the theatre and double that since. The only parts that stand out are using Silvestri's theme in the opening jog and in the Air & Space Museum.

Scores play a huge part of a film or franchise's long-term sustainability and cultural impact. Think of a John Williams hook or jingle...all of those memories and emotions resurface.

You and me both Suzanne ;) I don't think I can count the times following the movie's release I listened to the soundtrack on repeat at work. I love it.

The Jackman score worked perfectly for the style/tone. Doing another John Williams-esque horn-blowing score for this would've been awkward and inappropriate given the approach to this movie. Revisiting the Silvestri one only works in certain moments, like the opening. I like the WS theme in particular (which is apparently actually a person screaming according to the commentary).

The Silvestri theme was, imo, very iconic. I would love to see it make a return. I really wish there was more cohesiveness with the scoring for these films. Like the Avengers films maybe incorporating bits of the solo movie scores. And I'd like to see a hero theme stick around for more than one movie.

I think the theme for Cap 3 should be evocative of the actual American Civil War this time round. Something grand, sweeping, patriotic and slightly reminiscent of Silvestri's theme.

The reason why their themes are changed is because how forgettable they are, far from something as iconic as the Spider-Man or Superman theme. The Cap theme is the best one and the most memorable which is why Im glad they used it in TWS and I hope they keep it for Civil War.

So do we know if Falcon will be in this? He's a great character and I'd hate to see him be underused. I wanna see the friendship between he and Cap really blossom.

Cap is in a movie with Falcon, along with Mr Fantastic, Venom and the Tick.

I was thrilled when Silvestri revisited his Cap and tesseract themes in The Avengers, loved that kind of continuity brought over. Hell, Brian Tyler used Silvestri's Cap theme in that Thor 2 scene.

I really admire Jackman as a composer, and enjoy parts of the TWS score, but that score was mostly a big miss. I loathed that dissonant WS 'theme', it took me out of the movie every time it played.

Maybe Marvel will take Jackman off CA:CW and get Brian Tyler instead. Now that guy does his homework as a composer. Even for low-brow movies, he took care to incorporate the late Shirley Walker's main theme in the fourth and fifth FD films, as well as Jerry Goldsmith's Rambo theme in John Rambo.

I don't see why he wouldn't be.

I was just bummed that was the *only* continuity that was brought over to the Avengers score (Stark's AC/DC song not-withstanding). Personally I would've rather had all the heroes solo themes touched on in that film or none at all rather than just *one* of the heroes getting their musical queue revisited. That's just my personal opinion though.

For me, the Winter Soldier's dissonant theme was one of my favorite parts. To me it was a very fitting theme for a character who is so fractured. Again, just my opinion though ;)

That theme worked perfectly with the action sequences. And the soft "Natasha" theme always gets my heart pinging, remembering her heart-to-heart with Steve in that scene. I thought it played beautifully in the background when it dawns on Natasha that she can trust him….

*the WS feels, they are strong with me this morning :oldrazz:

I thought it was very effective (and scary!)
