Luke Cage The Official cast Luke Cage thread

I don't know how old that guy is, it doesn't say on his page, he was decent enough in Sons of Anarchy(definitely has an intimidating look) but I think they should go for an actor who is in his 30s but looks older.

He's a bit too pretty looking

Out of all the Defenders characters this will be the hardest to cast. Not only do you need someone who is physical enough to play Luke Cage, but also has enough acting chops to handle his own show.

I think an unknown will have to take that role. All the men who can physically pull off that role and act are just too damn old :(

I prefer an unknown as well. None of the prominent black actors fit Luke Cage to me.

I like this suit. Hope he wears it at some point. Maybe when he finally joins the Defenders.

Tyrese Gibson, perhaps. Though sometimes his acting can be spotty...liked him in Baby Boy, though. And he's not bad in the Fast and Furious movies, either.

My top pick is Henry Simmons, formerly of NYPD blue, has the looks, is 6'5" and charismatic

I can't post images from the device I'm using but my pick is Billy Brown, I feel like he's got the chops to play a character like cage and he's also got the natural size and voice. I feel like he really needs a big "break out" type role and this could be it.

Seconded, Billy Brown is great. And if they cast Holt McCallany as the Punisher, we can have a Lights Out reunion!

Brown would also make a good John Stewart.

Agreed, I really like Brown for this role. He has pretty much all of the qualifications for Cage and he looks marketable. I feel like he's been overlooked in favor of Terry Crews, tyrese, the rock etc.

Yeah, and from what I've seen, he's a better actor than both. Terry Crews is okay but he pretty much has two modes: badass and self-deprecating doofus. And Tyrese is pretty much only memorable when he's playing a wise-cracking smartass. Brown's acting has more depth and subtlety to it, IMO.

Definitely, I'd like see him bulk up and really embody the essence of Luke Cage the same way Evans does with Cap or Henry Cavill with superman.

Yeah. He gets around too; he was recently on The Following and Hostages, so hopefully his agent can get him in consideration for this.

Speaking of Dexter alums, I could also see Eric King (Doakes) as Cage.

Yeah I remember from the following and lights out, and recently saw him in soa and dexter. Going back and seeing him in lights out really helps cement him as my pic. With a role like this it could put him in the circle of black actors who can get some recognition, which I'd love to see as a black man myself.

You should watch Baby Boy.

I do like Billy Brown's look for Cage, though. I need to see his acting skills.

Physically I think Brown is perfect he's tall with a large frame and has a pretty deep voice; google him and you can see how ripped he got for lights out, when he grows his beard out he looks exactly like Luke Cage. Acting wise I haven't seen him ham anything up so far, but I've only seen him in supporting roles, I feel like he's perfectly capable of being a convincing Cage.
