The Official Casting The Superman Reboot Thread

This choice is so full of win that it's not even funny.

Here some of my unoriginal half ass choices:

Superman/Clark Kent: Armie Hammer or an unknown who is a good, charming actor.

Lois Lane: Anne Hathaway or Leighton Meester. WB is obsessesed with casting their female leads in this flicks with WB/CW actresses. I think that she'd actually be a good choice for once.

Lex Luthor: Joaquin Phoenix or some other fine somewhat young actor.
I really mean no offense when I say that 2/3 of these casting suggestions make me very, very unhappy.

Armie Hammer seems like an affable, capable guy, but I can't see a single thing about him that would be appropriate for Superman besides his height. I mean it, not a single thing about him screams... nay, not a single thing about him even whispers "Superman" to me.

Even worse, the idea of Leighton Meester as Lois Lane. What scares me most, though, is your idea that she could be considered as she is, after all, a lead on a (successful?) known CW show. I mean, look at Blake Lively in Green Lantern. It could happen... I like Leighton, but she's got a young face, and I would instantly fear for her coming off as young and ineffectual as Kate Bosworth did in "Returns".

Hammer and Meester together would, in my opinion, reek of casting for the youth vote. Going the MTV route. Casting in a way that could work for a music video or a piece of popcorn brainlessness that doesn't have 60 years worth of rich history, mythology and dedicated following. Superman and Lois aren't just a hot couple from a singular fun story. They are one of the greatest pairings in pop culture, in modern mythology, and, even if you're casting younger as opposed to older, you need to sign actors that embody the characters physically as well as the core essences, the souls.

Idealistic, I know...

Joaquin, on the other hand, could be cool. ;)

The new thinner bad ass John Goodman as Perry White.

Interesting choice. I've always been a big fan of his.

Actually, I thought Goodman would have been a great choice for Kingpin back in the day when they were making Daredevil

As far as the leads go:

Superman/Clark Kent - The Perfect Unknown (yeah, I know...)

Lois Lane - Olivia Wilde :hrt:

Lex Luthor - Daniel Craig

Craig wouldn't be a realistic choice due to his commitment to the Bond franchise at the moment, but he would be a very cool choice and would make a great Lex.

Not to mention both him and Wilde worked together on Cowboys & Aliens.

Re: Goodman as Perry-- I never thought about that, but that is beyond awesome! Memo to Snyder: DO IT!!! NOW!!! I COMMAND YOU!!!

Clark Kent/Superman: Brandon Routh/the perfect unknown(who no one suggested until now)/Daniel Cudmore
Lois Lane: Zooey Deschanel is my top choice,if not her,Anne Hathaway or Rachel McAdams
Lex Luthor:As I said before,I still don´t have my fave candidate
Jor-El:Jim Caviezel
Lara:Cate Blanchett or Lena Headey
Perry White: R.Lee Ermey
Jimmy Olsen: Anton Yelchin
Jonathan Kent:Kurt Russell
Martha Kent:Meryl Streep
General Zod: Gerard Butler
Brainiac: Jason Isaacs or Ralph Fiennes
Metallo:Paul Bettany

Perfect Superman(Routh), Lois(Deschanel) and Jor-El. Don't really like the rest.

Lex Luthor: Daniel Craig
Perry White : Alec Baldwin
Jimmy Olsen : Thomas Sangster
Jor El: Liam Neeson
Lara: Olivia Wilde
Johnathan Kent : Bruce Greenwood

I'd never heard of this guy before, but I looked him up and he has a great look. Can he act?

I like his look, have no idea about his acting. He's around 33/34, not sure about his height tho.

Good look, seems a little short though in some of the photos I've seen

He's likely about 5'10, compared with Cerina Vincent.

Wrong for Superman physically.

Yeah he's about 5'11 tops but I don't really care. I'm done with the whole 6'1 to 6'4 debate. The guy's a good actor and he looks like Superman. Plus, this is who I'd cast, . He's my choice and I'm sticking to em:cwink:.

Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Superman

Like a lot of people I was very impressed with him in The Social Network. After working with Fincher and Eastwood, it's pretty safe to say he's not a one hit wonder. He has a great voice for it too.

Runner Up - Henry Cavill

Josh Brolin (True Grit) as Lex Luthor

Brolin has the slick and sophisticated businessman thing down pat. Shave his head, forget Jonah Hex every happened and we're ready to go.

Runner Up - Patrick Wilson

Keri Russell (Waitress) as Lois Lane

Russell should have been Lois in the first place and was also up for Carol Ferris in Green Lantern. I think it's time for her to be in a superhero movie.

Runner Up - Rebecca Hall

Tom Berenger (Inception) as Perry White

If I have one hope for 2011 it's a Mickey Rourke like come back for Berenger. Hearing The Substitute yell "Great Ceaser's Ghost!" would be music to my ears.

Runner Up - Brian Cox

Clark Duke (Kick Ass) as Jimmy Olsen

Above all Jimmy needs to be funny, while Duke looks absolutely nothing like the classsic comic book Jimmy he's more than capable to bring comic relief as The Daily Planet's Cub Reporter.

Runner Up - Johnny Simmons

Mark Pellegrino (Lost) as John Corben

Great character actor and one creepy looking dude.

Runner Up - Garret Dillahunt

Mads Mikkelsen (Valhalla Rising) as Brainiac

Cold, creepy calculating. Mikkelsen has it in spades.

Runner Up - Luke Goss

If Clark Duke ends up in any movie I'm excited to see I will cry, kick, scream, and vomit. I like the other choices though, besides Metallo and Brainiac. Don't know who either of those guys are.

People are forgetting the chemistry within the cast when suggesting in here. Dont see alot of potential between Hammer and Duke really.
