The Official Choose A Director Thread

Its like with camp and Batman. The more modern, complex, and sophisticated audiences wont accept it. They went all camp with Batman and Robin to tap the success of the 60's but it came back and blew up in their faces to the point we didnt see Batman on screen for about 10 years. It was kiddie toy commercial with a little bit of hidden adult humour and it was just stupid. What worked then definitely doesnt work now.

A similar concept applies to Supes. The romanticism of the Donner movies was great for the times, and it will forever be classic, but it no longer applies. Singer kept rolling with it and we all know how that went. That has been done before and Superman has to be modernized for a modern audience. I assume that is what is implied when we are discussing a darker superman movie.

The influence Begins-TDK has on this medium is not one that will make the movies darker in characterization, but, I think, it will steer these movies towards making an adaptation that takes the source material with some seriousness and awareness of the times instead of falling into the comic book gimmick feel some producers who are completely removed from the current comics subculture seem to think these movies should be like.
i think it is not very hard to understand WB.

B89.....dark.......makes tons of money
so WB makes
BR........more dark.......less money
SO WB changes
BF........less dark and more kid friendly......again more money
SO WB AGAIN
B&R........complete kid friendly and camp.......disaster and a bomb
SO they wait

2005 BB again dark but inteligent.they see that it has potential.
so what happens
WB
more dark and more inteligent
TDK.........mega movie and record BO.
WB..chin chin chin $$$$$
of course they are saying that superman should be dark. this is WB's primitive way of thinking.
ohh and because tim burtons movie made a lot of money they wanted to make a dark superman movie........WITH TIM BURTON.

after 10 years WB didnt change IMO :nono:

I would agree just as long as he doesn't over do that slow motion fighting like he did in 300.
watchme ntrailers have tons of slow-mo shots.
its obvious that he is obssesed with this..........''ergo'' not very creative IMO.

I agree but it looks like when he uses it in that movie the scene calls for it well at least from what I think from reading the comic. But 300 had tons of uncalled for scenes there was only 3 scenes I think that really called for it.

You do understand why slow motion makes perfect sense, right?

If you people want to bash Snyder, find something new to b*** about. The slo-mo bashing got old last year.

No its the over use of it. I can deal with it if Superman is fight but just to see him walk or do movement in slow motion or for Lois to do movement in slow motion it will get tiring real fast. Other then that I have no problem with him. Now in Watchmen it seems like he found a good balance of it.

If he continues to overuse slow motion, then he will continue to get bashed. And considering that Watchmen trailers are fairly recent and not more than a year old, then it's very valid to point out his obsession and "bash" him for it.

Personally, I liked 300 and had no problems with the usage there but it does look to be getting a bit much with its use in Watchmen from what I have seen so far. But I won't bash him for it, Watchmen looks to be an amazing film.

Yeah, I agree, if Snyder keeps overdoing it with the slow motion, then he's going to become the next Michael Bay.

I won't get into Superman walking in slo-mo since I don't want Snyder for Superman, at all. Agreed with the bolded part.

Well sure, I'm not gonna defend his future projects, but for Watchmen, slo motion makes perfect sense to me. Obsession with slo mo? Gimme a break :whatever: The use of the technique seems to be minor to 300's. I think he has held back, so if people want to bash him about something, find something new and actually important, like character insight.

i think slow motion should only be like 3 or maximum 4 times in a movie. really when its ''THE'' scene of the movie.

but in the watchmen trailer its to much IMO. doesnt mean that the movie is bad. i am actually a big matrix fan. so its not hte slow motion that i have a problem with.

I dont understand why ppl try to label Snyder this way. Just because he made 300 and Watchmen?

Considering both 300 and Watchmen are both pretty much verbatim translations, and Dawn of the Dead was a remake, I can understand it. He hasn't made anything else, yet.

First of all, Snyder is a DIRECTOR. And a pretty good one.

That is a matter of opinon.

Besides, sorry for everyone who desagree, but adapt Watchmen is much more difficult than Superman.

That is also a matter of opinion.

Adapting Watchmen, I believe, would be relatively cut-and-dry. You have a single series to draw from. Superman however, there are so many different versions and takes on the mythos, it'd be a great undertaking to create an original story, or find an existant story to derive from, that would appeal to a modern audience. Superman's personality has stayed pretty consistent for a very long time, and I don't want that changed. But then there's the little facts of his universe that seem to always be shifting. How strong is he? What are the limits to his powers? Are there any surviving Kryptonians other than himself?

There are a lot of questions necessary to answer when making a Superman film. And the answers have to be relevant to the current society's mentality in order for this to be a successful hit.

Thats exactly what I think. ZS has not proved that he can do anything else but shot by shot adaptions really.

Those of you who don't think Snyder would make a visually epic Superman film that would make a nice profit....are not thinking straight.

i dont think anyone thinks that Snyder would nto make some big epic scenes. but as a whole to make a good sueprman story? thats the question.

profit? hmmm who knows. 300 was like what 90 milions?

It was closer to 60 million, me thinks. You're talking about the budget right?

Eh, Superman Returns made a profit. I'm sure that a Snyder cartoon version of big blue would make a profit but I don't want to see a shot by shot adaption of Birthright or anyother Supes comic.

I think if they wanted to give superman that chip on his shoulders they should look no further than geoff johns brainiac arc recently. The way it ended was in a great way that can make the story a lot more personal and have that sense of loss without carrying the depressive baggage of killing a child if they used jason again.

Nah...I mean a serious profit.

Once in which he wouldn't need 200 million to make something underwhelming with no re watch value.

Give Zack a solid story with some depth and great action, along with a 150 million budget and he will bring the goods!

Guaranteed....no worries....

Yep! Geoff Johns Action Comics arc with Braniac should definitely be one of books used as inspiration for the next Supes film.

Sorry I wouldn't be excited about that. Watchmen is looking mighty good but I'm cautious of it after hating 300.
