We need a new one.

So, what do you want Superman to look like in the next movie?

I prefer something along these lines:

the whole purpose behind the Death of Superman storyline and leading into the Return was to remind people why they loved the character.

Just like the Batman back breaking storyline was to prove only Bruce can be Batman

Just go with some version of the classic suit. No need for a fancy pants redesign. If they have to have one, save it for a sequel.

my concept of how the suit should look...

cool, new thread.

Who else had trunks and got rid of them for the movies...other than Batman
I'm talking in general, not just movies. I'll admit that I do not read comics as much as I used to these days (money troubles), and certainly not as much as most people here, but the last time I read some X-men issues as an example there wasn't nary a pair of undies in sight.

I like the look above for a very classic Superman appearance. ONly issue is how do you achieve that level of muscule definition?

The other alternative i'd like is this:

Similar to the GL design for the film it updates the textured appearance of the costume giving it a distinct look but maintains the basic design of his suit. Material wise, nothing rubber, but something like the new spidey suit that has an apparent "hardness" to it without being restrictive. By hardness i mean something that allows for distinct texure.

Imagine if the GL suit was created practically similarly to how they did Doug Jones look for Silver surfer. It doesn't look like he's wearing a thick costume etc, it just looks like he's this guy and that's his skin. Well something similar i think would work for Superman.

Thread Manager has no soul. :o

Go ahead and debate trunks vs. no-trunks all day, but for the love of all that is Superman, please NO ARMOURED costumes.

Superman does not need Armour, he IS Armour.

You misinterpret. I'm using the picture as a close facimile. I'm not saying "make it look like armor" or rubber. But i do think textured detail adds a nice asthetic to the design. Imagine GL suit if it was made practically. It would have a simliar production value to "creature" suits for films more so than wearing a cloth-like material. That's what i think the picture represents, not armor, not rubber but a harder material than cloth that allows for intricated designs to be incorporated.

I was thinking recently on one of my fav books, It's Superman! by Tom De Haven, and how that different yet familiar take on Superman came up with how the costume was created that I thought about how that could be used to explain the costume in today's time.
In the middle of the novel; set in the 1930s, Clark dates a costume designer in Hollywood, CA where she is working on a costume for a sci-fi film that is ultimatly cancelled. That costume just so happens to become the Superman costume. What I was thinking was, what-if during his college years, Clark is working at a job at the circus. Maybe as a perfomer, maybe woking behind the scenes. But one day, he is at the costume room and feeling bored he looks at the different outfits, the different capes, and an idea comes to hi to mix and match, to play with it, and he ends up with something he ends up liking. The end result is a precursor to the Superman costume.
Under this direction, not only do you keep the classic costume's design, but you use the inspirations Siegel and Shuster had in the creation of Superman. Which, in turn, isn't a bad idea anyway.

I would like to see it used as if we have never seen Supes at all. His costume could be of Kryptonian origin or cloth, kinda like how it was made in Birthright, using the Kryptonian symbol. \8/
Maybe Lois can dub him Superman after he first saves her (I know been done already). She can say to him, "Whats with the symbol?" He can reply, "It is the crest of my family (something to that effect)" Lois being Lois can respond, "Ya know, it kinda looks like an "S"..."
This would then give us something new and yet leave it open to bring back the suit we all know and love in a sequel with reason (Supes can be like, "well if it looks like an "S" and I'm called Superman...why not make it an "S"?)

Well you certainly are persistent I'll give you that! I know it's cold on the East Coast, but Just checked the weather for the foreseeable future, and apparently Hell isn't going to freeze over.:woot:

This isn't Superman: Hunter/Prey. This is Superman: Man of Steel.

The costume needs to stick to the original classic on the big screen with updated fabric. I also would love the cape to droop over his shoulders with some capacity.

I'll be persistent like neodrone and re-post this picture from page one. How the Heck can anyone argue with this brilliant tweaking of the underwhelming SR suit. Everything is fixed and ready to go. Imagine 6' 5" Joe M. in this bad boy.

I agree that the colour-corrected SR suit with a bigger symbol is pretty much spot on.

Actually the belt has been changed losing the WTF redundant \S/ on a Sheild shaped buckle. Oval or round is so much better. Also the cape attachment and neckline are changed to a more classic look. Basically it's like the Reeve and Routh costumes got it on and gave birth to this. This makes every attempt in this thread at a redesign look pointless desperate and totally unnecessary. It is so PURE and SIMPLE in it's execution I'm pretty confident (99.9%) Snyder will go this route. Great designers know when to stop designing, others insist on trying to reinvent the wheel.

Just noticed the boots have been cleaned up and the V notch (or M ) has been made symmetrical.
