The Official Goku/Justin Chatwin Thread

If you weren't expecting a damn near perfect transition, you wouldn't be complaining non-stop about it.
*sigh* another person that likes to ASSUME...

...i guess just because my ideal Goku isn't the one we're getting, it automatically means i want perfection. :whatever:

btw, i don't consider wanting something to be perfect a bad thing. there's always compromise, but if you could have everything perfect then why is that such a bad thing?

I highly doubt that a lot of actors innately posses the main characteristics of those they play in films. To expect that they would is just ignorant. I guess you believe that Daniel Craig had incredible experience with melee combat before James Bond, or that Harrison Ford was a dandy with a whip before Indiana Jones? Do you really believe Russell Crowe was a swordsman when he got the role in Gladiator? I highly doubt any of these 3 guys picked up had experience with any of these before the films they did that involved them.
lol @ you comparing Chatwin to the likes of Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Russell Crowe. first off, all of those men were already famous by the time they tackled those roles and had already done their fair share of action movies (yes, even Daniel Craig). they were practically GIVEN those roles based on their stardom while people in charge of casting for THIS movie, supposedly, auditioned lots of guys who wanted to play Goku. totally different sitations because Bond, Indy, and Maximus were all characters that depended partly on the actor's popularity. on the other hand, James Wong had the option of combing over thousands of young males who potentially have everything it takes to convey Goku on screen. second, those men never had to do any action sequences as demanding as martial arts fight sequences are. a foot chase, a sword fight, and cracking whips aren't exactly the same as lightning fast, intricate fight choreography. third, i didn't mean to emphasize that whoever is playing Goku should've had a martial arts background......but i'm sure there is a plethora of actors out there that have the other characteristics i listed (headstrong, in shape, and dynamic).

Heavy weights are slow fights with KO punches. Middle weights are pound fests of strength and speed, and light weights are generally heavy fast punches.

However, I enjoy watching powerful punches with speed, so Middle weights FTW!

definitely...middle weight fights are more exciting.

What the hell does fame have to do with an actor's ability to wield a whip, sword, or fight melee?

Might I ask who you would have casted for Goku, then? I would prefer you make a Caucasian selection seeing as how that's they way they are going for this film. But feel free to make both Asian and Caucasian suggestions.

I think he already did, but I had never seen the guy he suggested before.

Actually, I want to know who you want to play Goku too, Dorky...

Haha we posted at the same time Star :D

I posted the link above

Yeah I know I checked it out. Did you make that thread before or after the casting was actually announced, because I can't remember when that was ....

And ps. Lobo.. Jennifer Aniston? REALLY?

Yeah. though that could be because I  her

But she DOES look like Bulma to me throw some blue hair on this and maybe you'll see it

Aniston is too old for Bulma, thats my only problem with her....

and Barnface.... don't be mean :(

I think only behalf of you would be better suited. . .

Saying "****" wont get your point across, believe me. :o

Listen; everyone needs to calm down and keep it civil. No more outbursts, I'm fine with a heated debate but telling people to shut the **** up is a nono on this board. Got it?

Oh I agree she's too old for it now, but that was for my all time cast no restrictions. I'd like to see who you'd cast :)

Who they've decided to cast is fine, actually.

it doesn't...

i honestly can't think of an ideal caucasian actor right now that would play Goku for a movie this confined in budget but i actually think Justin Long would make an interesting Goku. he might not have Goku's big eyes or his square jaw, but he's a handsome chap and would lend a lot to the movie's humor. he's headstrong, in shape and dynamic. he probably doesn't have any martial arts experience, but at least i can believe he'd been studying martial arts for a while. i'm sure there are much more qualified caucasian actors out there that i either don't know about or can't think of....but after a few minutes of thinking he's the only realistic choice i could come up with. i'll ponder on what caucasian actor i would think is ideal and i'll get back to you.

however, if you're interested in my ideal Goku regardless of race (i'm sure many of you will stop reading soon) Lobo pointed you in the right direction but if you don't feel like clicking and you don't mind me ranting.....his name is Takeshi Kaneshiro, and he's Japanese/Taiwanese...

...he's a little too old now and he's supposed to be playing Samanosuke in the movie version of Onimusha so it wasn't a probability that he'd be able to play Goku but i honestly couldn't think of a better actor...

"The ‘Tarzan’ who can speak five languages"

He is Prada’s spokesperson for Asia; has been a frequent nominee on searches for the most beautiful men in the world; is fluent in five languages, and to date one of Asia’s most-favored heartthrobs. He is Takeshi Kaneshiro, one of the lead stars in Wong Kar Wai’s critically acclaimed film Chung King Express.

His ability to speak various languages recently earned him a stint in Hollywood, where he would do the voice over of a Tarzan animation in Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese languages.

Unknown to many, however, the handsome multi-lingual actor grew up struggling to pursue his dreams. He was born in Taipei to a Japanese father and a Taiwanese mother, a mixed heritage that in those days was considered taboo by Taiwanese society. As such, Kaneshiro always found himself ridiculed by his classmates. This made him transfer to the Taipei American School.

During his high school years at said institution, the young Kaneshiro did stints for television commercials. In the mid 1990s, he brought his soulful eyes and sensitive good looks to Hong Kong, where he debuted as a singer in 1992 and instantly became a star of the Chinese-speaking region. He sang pieces that he himself wrote in both Mandarin and Cantonese.

His silver screen debut came in Johnnie To’s Executioners (1993), where he made such a deep impression that it became his only supporting role to date. Kaneshiro has since played the male lead in all of his subsequent films, which included Wong Kar Wai’s Chung King Express and Fallen Angels.

Despite being effortlessly good-looking, Kaneshiro avoids the usual pop fodder in favor of quirky character parts - a move that is unusual for Asian leading men. Coincidentally, a Japanese television producer spotted Kaneshiro and gave him a role in an unusual miniseries. The controversial show was a huge success in Japan and sparked Kaneshiro’s Japanese film career.

His portrait was even taken for a popular Sony Playstation video game entitled Onimusha: Warlords (2001).

Aside from his achievements in the filming career, Kaneshiro also maintains a professional singing career as a pop star, and finds success as an international print model for the designer label Prada as well as appears extensively in advertisements all over Asia.

he has sort of a boyish look along with masculine features (Chatwin has more boyish features), a solid build (not big by any means, but good enough), a lot of acting experience, as well as the athletic experience. he's multilingual, speaks decent English, was one of the voice actors for Tarzan (a nature boy like Goku is supposed to be), and is an international heart throb! if he were Goku, do you realize how many chicks would see this flick??? he might not have many female fans here in America, but do you realize how huge the hype would be in Asia if he were to play Goku? i'm also sure he'd earn plenty of female fans here since there are already a handful. not only that...he has the life experience. he was an outcast when he was young, just like Goku! is there anything else required for the role of Goku???

of course, it's impossible now. Chatwin is Goku and that's the way it is. imo, a severly missed opportunity. sorry i took a piss....hehe

thank you for keeping the peace, Lobo. look guys...i know i'm painted as the @$$hole because i like i'm outspoken with my opinion but there's no need to get ugly or personal. if you really get to the point where you can't stand me then SHH has a convenient ignore feature just for pesky posters like myself.

Who they've decided to cast is fine, actually.
i'll definitely agree with that. Emmy Rossum is one the only reasons i'm looking forward to this flick.

Interesting choice. I know nothing about him. :hehe:

Just wanted to point out--> Dorky, I may not agree with your posts, but I have never flamed you.

Some people honestly don't understand that boards are for discussing different opinions...

Also, I am going to work on my 'ideal cast' list haha. I really don't know where I'd even start, actually!

well...that article explains quite a bit. even though he's an unknown in America, he's huge in Asia.

s'all good, Star. you're on my cool list.

Also, I am going to work on my 'ideal cast' list haha. I really don't know where I'd even start, actually!
just close your eyes, imagine Goku, and what makes him Goku to you. start from there then look for an actor who matches those qualities. then rinse and repeat :)

Start w/ actors :p

DF a Caucasian actor that would fit Goku to your liking I think would probably be Matthew Bomer, he has a good resemblance and did fight scenes in the premier of Chuck and he's pretty good with humor too and has a good build

Chatwin IS Goku though and while he may not be my ideal choice, I'm all for Giving Chatwin a Chance

actually, i read his name all over the boards when Superman was being cast and since Goku is supposed to be the Superman of martial arts i guess Bomer would be fitting. i don't think he'd do a movie like this but if i had to pick a caucasian Goku then he'd fit the bill pretty well.

Chatwin IS Goku though and while he may not be my ideal choice, I'm all for Giving Chatwin a Chance
i'm all for giving actors a chance but i just feel that he's totally wrong for the role. it has nothing to do with him being caucasian, it's because i honestly think he has nothing special to lend to the role. hopefully he'll prove me wrong. i'd hate to they chose Chatwin just because he has big eyes like Goku.
