After reading Earth One, I wonder if the show might use that backstory for Martha. You know, considering that she generally gets the shaft story-wise.

"Joe Chill killed my father!!!"
"Bruce..."
"What is it, Alfred?"
"Ahem... your mother."
"Oh, right. Her too."

Nyssa Al Ghul don't count as the first lesbian in a superhero show.?

Well, the article did state "prime-time". Do we consider the CW to be in that category?

Nyssa counts. She was on a broadcast show that is shown during 8-11pm aka "Prime time."

That's exactly what we need. Use the ridiculousness of the concept of Batman an introduce people like Balloon Man and play it straight.

The promotional work for the show has been the best of any new series this season by far.

It has the hype and it has the reviews.

But... how do we think this will hold up next Monday against The Big Bang Theory and The Voice?

Ben McKenzie talks about how different Gotham is to, say, Arrow.
I would say it’s much more character-driven,” McKenzie says. “There’s certainly quite a bit of action, and there will be week to week. Stylistically, it’s much more noir than action-adventure. The violence is real and shocking, as opposed to massively operatic and coordinated within an inch of its life. This is more swift and brutal and hopefully kind of shocking. We don’t dwell on it. At the same time, in the pilot alone, there’s a rooftop chase scene, which is a lot of fun. There’ll be definitely be some action, and I’ll be doing some of that.”

It's got a 16 episode order, at this point.

Big Bang Theory will (unfortunately) come out on top, but I think Gotham will hold it's own. People grow less interested with The Voice with each and every cycle and the same goes for Dancing with the Stars (and then some). Gotham's the only drama on the big four, and we can hope that a smaller portion of BBT's audience follows them to Monday than there are on Thursday.

And hopefully the Batman 75th Anniversary also works in Gotham's favor.

They're doing a premiere for the show in NY tonight.
