The Official Green Lantern Review Thread - Part 3

They should of called this "Hal Jordan the Movie."

The biggest flaw with this film is the lack of time on Oa and exploration into the mythology. I mean, Hal doesn't even meet the Guardians until near the end. This is a guy who's got Abin's ring for crying out loud. Also, the lack of help for Hal to beat parallax was just odd. Instead of Hal his entering apartment for the 30th time, or another chat with Carol or a scene with the pointless friend, we could of had more time on Oa.

I did like the effects, the constructs and the little time on Oa. I didn't feel Blake or Ryan were miscast, I enjoyed them in the roles. Hector was a fun villain, bur got too much time. The first 40mins gave a great build up and entertained the hell outta me, but there's no pay off unfortunately.

At the end of the day, in recent years, it doesn't touch Batman Begins or TDK, but surpasses Returns IMO.

So this post credits scene was [BLACKOUT]Sinestro becoming yellow or whatever. Honestly the only things I really know about Green Lantern are from the two cartoon movies of recent years and this movie.[/BLACKOUT]

Warner Brothers definitely knew there would be backlash. They sold this movie on Tomar-Re and Kilowog and Sinestro and they were in maybe 15 minutes of the movie.

Basically. It was an insult to anyone who just sat through 95 minutes of film that was insulting enough on its own.

I SEE SPIDEY you should read Classic Ion run, IMO Kyle was the epitome of what a Lantern should be in that. Even Superman was Jealous of him, just imagine how badass you have to be for Supes to be jealous of you.

The ONLY positive thing I can say about that bulls*** after the credits is: well, at least they didn't make us wait until the absolute end of the credits the way Marvel does(seriously Marvel, I wish you'd stop that).

Yeah, they moreless showed everything from Oa in the trailers/TV spots/Clips

Except for that one time they put it BEFORE the credits (just so they could use it in a TV spot :oldrazz:)

First thing I will say is, the critics have been way too harsh on this. 40%-50% on RT would have been fair.

Me and my brother were talking about this. If parallax was such a big threat why did the guardians only send like 7 out of 3596 lanterns to deal with it? And why did none of them ever think to through it into a sun?

The constructs were nice but there weren't nearly enough of them. The effects were mostly good but not great IMO. I am glad that they improved the CGI suits. And Oa was kinda boring, it's CGI wasn't that good, and I think it failed to inspire awe like Asgard did in Thor.

Well then by definition it wasn't an after credits scene. This movie did it the way FF1 did the Dr. Doom is still alive reveal. I wish Marvel Studios would do it's after credits scenes THAT way. Just a short bit into the credits rather than having to wait 5 minutes.

Wow thats a slap in the face to the character. I always figured the main focus of a sequel is his turn since we all know its coming but instead they throw it in during the credits. Ouch

Superman was not jealous of Kyle, he could more or less do what Kyle was doing, not to the same extent, but if he gave up his life as Clark Kent he too could become the kind of God that Kyle had become. He's the one who essentially snapped Kyle out of his Ion-daze and told him: "it's not cool what you're doing, homey. We can't be Gods to these people".

But Kyle giving up that power so he could restore Oa, that GOLD right there. That's one of the finest superhero stories I've ever read.

Damn, I think Im gonna read my Kyle comics tomorow. I miss him.

Right on! Especially when it's 3D. I don't know what it's like in the US, but in Romania they come to get your 3D glasses the second the credits start. And I wanted to stay when I went to see Thor for the after credits scene and I could barely make it out because those *******s took mah damn glasses.:cmad:

Lol He was jealous not to the point of being green with envy but Kyle made him and the other leaguers redundant. Remember when the alien armada was going to attack earth and they were all having the meeting. Well while Kyle was sat there with them he was also ending the invasion single handily, the look on Supes face was priceless.

If Paralax was such a big threat why did it only take a rookie GL to defeat him? I'm sorry but I just didn't believe that for a second. They should have had the other GL's involved to make it more believable because as it was protrayed I didn't believe that Hal could beat Parallax alone.

I hate how Marvel handle the after credits. I waited after First Class and got nothing :csad:

I don't know what the hell the critics were talking about! I just saw Green Lantern and it was a fun, exciting movie. The effects were great and the characters were interesting. Sure there were some weird cuts and wished the movie was longer but it was still a good movie. Hopefully it makes enough money so WB could make a sequel and give Flash the "green light" if you will.

It was stupid. They made it look like the Lanterns were afraid of Parallax and then a non experienced Hal Jordan can take him by himself. I understand that it shows he has accepted his fate or whatever but its still really dumb. It would have worked better if he held off Parallax until the other Lanterns got to Earth to help finish it off.
