The Official Green Lantern Thread II: Brighter! Greener! Shinier! Lantern...ier...!

So we haven't talked about Kyle Rayner in, like, forever.

:kyle: :kyle: :kyle:

Something I've noticed is that Bedard has been writing Kyle a lot more like he was before Tomasi wrote GLC. I'm still trying to decide if that's a good thing. On the one hand, Tomasi's Kyle really felt like he had matured and grown into a real Corpsman, maybe moreso than any other GL including John and Hal. On the other hand, Bedard's Kyle feels more recognizable as the Kyle that Kyle has been for more of his chronology. I hesitate to call it backtracking; there is legitimate justification for this characterization in the wake of Brightest Day:stars:, now that he's with Soranik and even Jade is back. But I almost miss his severity a little. It was growth! I love growth. I hope Bedard doesn't make him lose it entirely. This is important, damn it.

I've also been thinking of that ridiculous Identity Crisis fight, and I realized that Deathstroke could have defeated Kyle if had just thrown down a flashbang grenade instead of the whole fisting nonsense.

Give me your money, Meltzer.

Well, Kyle's about to get into another fistfight, this time with Sinestro. Which is just doubly ******ed, since both of them have power rings this time.

It's ****ing bright in here.

Anyhoo, back when I was a young, naive comic reader, I really didn't have a problem with the Id.C. thing, but now that I am old, jaded, and near 10k, it does bother me. Why did Metzler have Kyle there if he couldn't think of a good way for him to either beat Slade within the confines of the story, or have Slade have a better defense than blocking a punch. Kyle could have put Slade inside a comical Acme Co. safe instantaneously. Oh well. Doesn't make sense. Big deal.

As for Kyle's growth, it does seems he is becoming more and more involved with the Corps, and while he would never follow orders blindly, I'm sure he can see the good in the Guardians' actions where, say Guy, wouldn't, which could lead to that fight premonition between the two we saw last issue.

Kyle seemed to be speaking out against the Guardians' cold ruthlessness even more than Guy. He's definitely not a company man. He's more about doing his own thing within the setting of the Corps, but I'm sure he would openly oppose the Guardians and other Lanterns if he thought they were going too far.

Such as with the executions, sure, but I think Kyle would put up with way more of the Guardians's b.s. if it meant strengthening the Corps in the long run. Seems like Guy would disband the Corps just to spite the Guardians at this point.

What I really want is for them to quit acting like *****e rockets and start being just, true, leaders.

You mean Kyle for one of those "Guys" but I can't decide which. I would go with the latter, personally. Kyle was on his own for a long, long time, so he knows the Corps ain't the be-all, end-all of universal policing. He can get the job done all by himself if push comes to shove, and he knows at this point that he'd still have plenty of like-minded Lanterns to help him out now.

My bad, I meant the first "Guy" to say Kyle.

I think it's fullish to think Kyle Rayner did anywhere near as good of job by himself that a full power Corps can do.

I didn't say he did as good a job as the Corps is doing now or did before Parallax. Just that he's been there before, so I wouldn't think he'd be particularly averse to going back to it, especially now that he can be relatively certain that Soranik, Kilowog, and others would probably join him.

I like that about Kyle

I'm guessing it's some kind of swerve myself because honestly I couldn't see Sinestro losing a fistfight simply because he's done more and seen more at this point than Kyle has

I mean, what would be the point of Kyle getting his butt handed to him right now? Show that Sinestro is a merciless badass? We know that...

Maybe Kyle will have a good showing against him and it will make him look better? That's the only upside I see.

The Guardians should defer to Kyle, he ****ing brought there blue ****ing ass's back into ****ing existence. He should get a meeting with them when ever the **** he ****ing feels like and when they argue he should say " ah ah ah, Papa Spank!"

I'm glad this thread is starting off on the right note.

Oh and just to add more awesome, i just watched the first 3 episodes of Firefly with my brother so this is now BSG and Firefly that I have introduced him to. He is slowly seeing the light.

Yeah nothing like Kyle fanwank to get the thread started.

I don't know, I'm not a professional writer. But it certainly couldn't be too hard for one of them to come up with something better than "woe is me, I want to die but no one will kill me, boo hoo."
Well, it seems "unfair" to me, to judge the character so harshly then, if you do not have anyidea about what could be better. He is not your cup of tea, fine. He is not mne either. I was defending the fact that is is not the THAT lame. There is room to improve him.
I think it is a good direction. Maybe the angle should be better, but I keep thinking he is certainly not the lamest villain of the dc universe, especially snce they "re-vamped" him.
......Science....?
It seems pretty boring to me. The actual motivation is "death". Just as easily sumed up as what you wrote. Science is boring to me, but I am sure it could be treated very well and make Henshaw a bettervillain. As I said before, I think his motivation is fine and understandable, but maybe they should improve how they write him.

But it wouldn't even do that, really. I'm a huge fan of Kyle and even I don't care whether he's good in a fistfight or not. His strength is kicking ass with crazy constructs.

Where will this fistfight be taking place?

I doubt they will actually fight with fists. The cover just wants to make it look dynamic and symmetrical or whatever.

Oh is this from the GL solicits for November, because i cant see those.
