I have 2 dumbbells, one barbell and a bunch of weight plates that total maybe 50kg. I only use those for mobility though so it's more than enough for me at the moment. Other than that I have a pull-up bar, a stall bar and a pair of rings. Next on my to buy/build list are a pair of parallettes.

Lift quite a bit! Feels pretty good at the end of a good workout, but hurts during

i need to get my act together. i've been really down lately (stress, family issues etc) so i haven't been motivated to work out at all. not to mention being pretty much snowed in the last week.

what do yall do to get out of your funk and/or get your butt in gear to work out when you just "don't feel like it"?

I actually stare at myself in the mirror. You ever stare at yourself for a long time, that it get's really creepy, almost as if you're looking at someone else?

I do that, then look at the areas i'm trying to improve. In my case, it's my legs. I needs to add more size to them. That coupled with the fact that spring/summer is right around the corner motivates me enough to get serious...

Do any of you have any gym or workout equipment at your own house?

Oh yeah, I have a nice home gym. It's great not having to actually leave the house lol. A home gym is very convenient.

Oh yeah. I haven't been to a gym in years. Well I have, but not for my regular training. I don't require that much equipment though, but I have what I need for now.

Just a pull up bar and a dumbbell. I want to get a small bench and a few more dumbbells but they're expensive.

I am really thinking of canceling my gym membership and buying a really nice bench press. The good ones can be expensive. But with all the money I save and can put that towards it.

I have some, but I never tend to use them much. My weights are those screw on plates and they can sometimes fall off when doing curls. They're a bit dangerous as they could crush your foot, or if they fall off while doing skull crushers, they could crush your skull.

I have something like that too. The old bench I have is cheaply made and is rather dangerous. If I take too much weight off from one side, the bar will flip over and crash to the ground. So I have to make sure I hold the bar the whole time as I take weights off, which is a pain. I never crushed my foot but I did take off too much weight one day and the whole bar flipped over and crashed on the ground. Luckily it was in the garage and didn't damage the floor, it just nicked the cement up a bit.

That is another reason I want to cancel my gym membership. The drive is way to long for me. I would save so much time by just staying at home and not actually leaving the house every night.

Much easier to motivate yourself when everything is at home. Weather, car probs and many other excuses etc can't get in the way. Also you don't have a limited window. Can work out any time, there's no missing the opportunity because of an external factor.

When I was out of shape a few years back I would never look at myself in a mirror because I didn't like what was staring back. Now however, I'm quite comfortable to look at myself in the mirror naked or to even walk around half naked, which is what I am at a swimming pool.

You'd need a waterproof phone, but then people would think you're perving and trying to take pictures of them. :o

All I'd need is another 25 lb dumbbell, maybe two 50 lb ones, and two light dumbbells; a barbell or an ez curl bar, and a bench. I actually have a stability ball but it's too big.

First run of the year done today. It was embarassing. That's what you get when you don't do any cardio for 4+ months.

arround 90- 110 grams...

I don't know how much you weigh but most people recommend roughly 2 grams of protein/kg bodyweight, but it's also a good idea to add even more if you are trying to lose weight. So if I were you I would eat more protein and see what happens.

I've been the same way unfortunately. What about your days off?

as of yesterday i'll pretty much be working 7 days a week for the next month or 2, unless it happens to rain on days i'm actually scheduled off.

right now my main job i am off monday and tuesdays, but i got a job coaching softball at my rival high school (much as it pains me) and we practice every day after school. and on tuesday nights my travel ball team practices too, so that's double practices on tuesdays.
on mondays i'll be at practice for about 3 hours or so, other than that i am "off" but i'll be doing most of my errands and things on my to-do list.

Earlier this week I went for a run and the day after I had cramps in my right calf the entire day! It was painful as all hell. Never experienced that before.

I need to lose my gut. Damn it, I don't want to count calories.

:cmad:

After a long period of inactivity, I started working out about a month ago at the local YMCA. My main goal is to lose my gut. However, I have no clue what I am doing so I just ride the bike for about 30 minutes (I have had a couple of surgeries on my knees so my doctor advised that I avoid "impact" cardio like running) and then hit the weight machines with an emphasis on the abs and chest.

Any advice on how I should proceed? With work and family, I only have time to get to the gym 3 times a week for about 1-2 hours at a time.

as someone who can only go to the gym three times a week and about the same time each day, it´s fine, i´m no expert but if you want to loose the gut, aside from working out you have to eat healthy too, with those combined and beeing consistant with both, you´ll loose some body fat

I've been using one of them waist trimming belts. I mean it is hard to breath at times and then you go blue in the face.. But at least my waist is a couple inches thinner.. :o

Oh boy. I'm going to assume you're being honest b/c I don't know you well enough to gauge your sense of humor. What do these things do exactly?

I was kidding just a bit :woot:..The trouble breathing only happens when I make it super super super tight. You aren't supposed to make it super tight. It is only supposed to be tight enough to make you sweet more around the abdomen in order to help shed excess water retention.

I got it off the internet. It is called Mcdavid waist trimmer.

Just go with your gut feeling. :p

Seriously though, I would suggest swimming for both of you. That is easy on your joints and will burn off fat and calories like no other exercise. I had more of a gut a few years ago but began swimming regularly and within even a couple of months or less, I had lost any love handles. And it kept going from there. I now have a completely flat stomach. Even 45 minutes in a pool will burn it there. You're using every muscle in your body and because you need to draw on your reserves to keep going, then your body will begin to draw from where your fat is stored to get the energy.

Of course, I have done some HIIT and ab exercises to target that area while on dry land, but swimming has been my main form of cardiovascular exercise. I know some people don't want to either get wet or put in the effort to do this, but as far as I'm concerned, it is the most effective and efficient way to burn at a much higher rate than other types of workouts. I'm someone who doesn't like to have to take forever to see results, so this method gets results in the shortest space of time.
