The Official Hype Fitness Thread 6.0 - Part 8

I'm sure you'll get there pretty quick if you keep on pushing for it!

Yeah I was getting up to some decent volume (for me) without any feelings of overtraining or soreness, so that was a bummer. But it's like you say; as long as the consistency is there these setbacks won't matter much in the long term of things.

Yikes! Sorry about that! I've sprained my toes a few times but never had anything break though. Early this year I hurt my foot while sparring and there were a bunch of cracking noises but no broken bones fortunately, but it did swell up like a mother and hurt for quite a while.
Hopefully it won't be a long recovery for you.
Yeah, despite this Sat being so slow in comparison I’m confident in the process and all about the long term. Even surprisingly slow attempted fast runs I see as consolidation.

Yep, and that work you did will still contribute to where you eventually get to. Nothing is wasted. All these months in prior years where I’ve put runs together and then had many months off have all helped me build back much better this time.

Well I've had the whole week off since and also ate whatever I wanted :D (including tomorrow which is always all out rest day). Hopefully I'm still competent for the park run on Sat. It's a hilly one too.

I didn’t get my toe checked out because I figured at best the doctor might splint it.

I hurt it on Saturday. By Monday evening, it wasn’t as bruised and had a little more flexibility. I actually played a little basketball on it on Tuesday, but it was just half court and I didn’t run a lot. But by yesterday it was pretty swollen again.

I’m still not sure if it was a break or a bad sprain. But either way I am hoping that rest will lead to improvement. I’m going to be traveling for work next week and really busy. So I probably wouldn’t have been working out a ton anyway. I’m hopeful that by the time I get back I will be all better.

Oh that sucks. Hopefully it heals on its own. I think with certain toe injuries even the docs are limited in what they can do about it. Suddenly my achilles and hamstring issues don't seem so bad as at least there are long term ways to solve those problems yourself. Im hoping this accidental week rest for me will also help sort my toe issues out.

Was working out for two hours a day two weeks ago every day. Got sick and took a week off since then I can’t work out for 30 minutes. Just feel unmotivated to sweat. Feels like I’ve aged 10 years in a week. Also can’t stop eating

24.44 for the parkrun 5k today which is better than I expected after feeling terrible when I got out of bed. Also did an 18 mile run after on the way back and together with the run on the way there that's 24 miles total!

Have you fully recovered from the illness? Maybe you still have part of it in your system and will improve a lot when it's totally flushed out.

Possibly. One thing I’ve done is shorten my weights workouts to an hour. Been too busy with life so no more two hour long sessions. Just an hour of weights a day followed by an hour of cardio

Did 26.2 miles today to simulate a marathon. The pace got slower and slower after about the 16 mile mark but still very glad to have completed it. Took over 5 hours :D but I’m happy with that the day after doing 24 miles total. 50 miles for the weekend is pretty cool, now let’s see how I recover. Walking back a mile now and I’m stumbling all over the place. :funny:

Keep the quality high and the consistency and you can achieve a ton in that timeframe.

16.1 miles on the way in to work and a 4.5 mile tempo on the way home. I took a day off on Monday when I’d normally do intervals.

Nov runs: 70.8 miles / 113.9 km

14.4 miles on the way in today (slower).

Nov runs: 85.2 miles / 137.2 km

3.6 miles on the way home - ran out of energy so had to stop and get food and then walk the rest of the way home.

15.4 miles on the way in (slow) this morning.

Nov runs: 104.2 miles / 167.8 km

Have to get some pretty scary surgery in the next two weeks and then won’t be able to workout for at least a month so my mind has been off and I’ve completely lost all desire to workout. Have worked out maybe once in two weeks. Hope once healthy from surgery I’ll get the motivation again. Just eating, being lazy and getting fat right now

Ah best of luck with it, hope it goes well. I don't blame you for being distracted by that. Hopefully you recover well from it and when fully recovered can start getting back into it properly.

I am struggling. After a week of nursing a broken toe I went for a jog with my son. When we came to a big hill in the park where we were jogging. My son challenged me to run down the hill. I knew better but I really wanted to do it. There were so many reasons not to, from the broken toe to the fact that the hill was steep and dangerous. But I did it anyway. Halfway down I was out of control running too fast. 2/3 of the way down, my knee gave out and I fell, bouncing off the knee and somersaulting. My knee has had fluid on it since.

Today is the first day that the swelling has gone down. I need to remember that I’m 49 years old and not a kid any more.

17.3 miles on the way to work, 3 laps of the park in between instead of the usual 2. Felt really good after a few miles given the day after intervals is usually purely a survival mission (which doesn’t always succeed lol).

Nov runs: 171.8 miles / 276.5 km

Oh no, sounds painful. :csad:

Hope you get better asap.

Had to stop for food again on the way home with low energy, but then after walking while eating ran the last bit. 4.2 miles total.

This morning also started later and went slower for 13.8 miles.

Nov runs: 189.8 miles / 305.5 km

I’m hoping for 400 miles and 600km this month if I can keep this pace up.

14.8 miles on the way in and 4.6 miles on the way back last night. Getting harder but looking forward to a day to fully recharge tomorrow after tonight's run back home.

Nov runs: 209.1 miles / 336.6 km

Ahead of schedule at the halfway stage (tomorrow 15th Nov) for 400 miles and 600km by the end of the month.

hey yall

been away for quite a bit.

13 months post back surgery. still doing okay. still working too much. 50+ per week :/
my strength is improving i think, or at least it's not decreasing. stiffness is so random. sometimes i feel great and then randomly i'll try to bend or move and my back is like nope! just part of life for me these days. i can handle that.

i've been increasing my steps i'm able to do. i think i'm averaging about 7-8k per day. i've hit 20k+ a few times and man, those have worn me out lol

Glad to hear of various improvements since the surgery.

Good to get on the steps too, 20k is awesome!!

I hate to hear that you aren’t feeling total improvement, but at least finding a baseline and not continuing to decrease strength is good.

I think that I have shared before that my wife has Lyme Disease. After a few years of pain and sharp declines physically and even cognitively, she finally found the right regime of supplements and diet to manage it. We had to come to terms with the fact that she’d never feel “cured” but we could find a baseline where she slowed or stopped the decline and then try to celebrate some victories after that.

Sounds like you are finding that baseline and working up from there. I hope you get some encouragement as you go through that process. And I hope you start to see more victories and improvements. (Except when facing me in fantasy football of course!)

I totally understand the long hours too, btw.

I’m planning on resuming running tomorrow morning if the sky’s don’t completely open up. My knee is still tender and bruised, even after about two weeks, but at least the fluid has drained. And my toe is still red and swollen (and kind of set strangely) but it doesn’t have any pain.

I’m planning on taking it extremely easy and just doing some jogging at first until I see how everything is holding up.
