The Official Hype Fitness Thread 6.0 - Part 8

I try to get the majority of my protein from lean meats and fish. But I also indulge in Orgain powder that I mix with oat milk and erythritol to make ice cream. The powder is pricey, but it goes a long way.

Don’t sweat turning 40. I feel like 40-45 were really prime fitness years for me, even with having a herniated disc at age 42. It wasn’t till I hit around 47 that the wheels started coming off with bad injuries.

How has your neck been doing?

back?

much better. still get random numbness from the nerve damage but it's not often. i'd be much more concerned if it happened more frequently than it does but since they told me i might never feel my toes again and i do, i can't complain too much.

i feel like i'm far enough along to where i can consider working out more, or trying to increase my strength. i'm noticeably weaker than before, but if i can get any stronger, i'm willing to try. i also need to improve my flexibility as my left leg suffered a lot from the break and the herniated discs as well as the sciatic damage. i definitely feel older than near-40 lol

i'm going to look into the orgain etc. i've already started swapping my milk for almond milk sometimes. i'm just looking for real-life answers from real people lol instead of googling everything or information hidden behind a paywall

So in about a year I’ve lost 25 lbs. was mostly all muscle with body fat though. Am down to 194. A month ago i gave up preworkout, coffee all supplements. First time in 15 years since I’ve been into fitness. Never thought I could do without it, but I wanted to be healthy as I can approaching 40 and I feel great. Not lifting as heavy as I’m losing weight, and muscle and power, but still strong and knocking out more pull ups than ever.

You will probably be thankful to have lost the bulk as you get into your 40’s. As you progress into your 40’s it gets harder and harder to maintain the muscle simply because your body isn’t pumping out the testosterone the way it did when you were younger. And your metabolism slows down as well. It is easy for that muscle to atrophy into fat even with a lot of lifting. I personally made a decision into my 40’s to pursue being athletic over muscular and that was a great decision as I was able to keep a more lean and athletic frame for most of my 40’s which helped me to stay active. As a result, my cholesterol remained managed and my heart has stayed really strong, despite the fact that heart disease runs rampant through my family.

So I really applaud your efforts to get to where you are. I think that you will appreciate it in the long run.

(Now if someone could just advise me how to manage my way as I transition from 40’s into 50’s, I’d appreciate it. Injuries and metabolism at a crawl is vicious.)

It was up in the air if I would run my half marathon today and even this morning, my son woke up with a sore throat and fever and had to bail on it. But I went ahead and ran. It was a weird race for me. I kept a good and steady pace for the first 8.5 miles. I was quite surprised at how I was doing because I’m in terrible shape after the injuries this year. Then at mile 8 there was a downhill run and at mile 9 an uphill run though tunnels. And my knee was just finished at that point. I had to gut it out for the last 4.5 miles, even walking a good portion of that stretch.

But I finished it, which is significant given that in January I was wondering whether my running days might’ve been over. And I had a really good showing for the first 2/3 of the race.

I usually buy 2-3 pairs at a time and then demote them to casual “go to the grocery” shoes when they start to wear out. But I switched brands after my injury and I’m not sure that either are great for me right now.

Yeah I've been looking at getting a second pair of the shoes I'm wearing right now (I have two pairs in rotation) that I really enjoy. Just haven't gotten around to actually purchasing them though. What brand of shoe do you use?
how are yall getting your protein? i really like Corepower drinks, but the price is crazy! i also like Barebells, but again, the cost is high lol

i'm thinking i need to increase my intake because i am tired. all. the. time. not like sleepy tired, just fatigue? body tired? i'm trying to figure out ways to up my protein intake to see if that will help. i'm probably at the point where i should consider vitamins too as i turn 40 this year. 40 :sadcat:

How much protein do you reckon you get in a day?
I drink a lot of milk and enjoy eggs a lot. Other than that I am not much of a meat person so I use whey powder to bring up the protein to a reasonable level.

How are you feeling afterwards now? I'm guessing your knee wasn't all too happy the first couple of days after.

What brand of shoe do you use?
I recently switched from Saucony to New Balance. I like the New Balance better, but the soles could have more cushion for my taste.

It was crazy swollen for about 36 hours, but I woke up Monday morning and it was fine. I’ve had a couple of light jogs this week and no problems or residual pain so far.

if i were to guess, 30-50g a day? i've been trying to up the protein with some barebells bars as snacks at work, and i'm currently using a meal service because it's just me, and my hours are all over. I'm using CookUnity. Been about 4-5 weeks and i like it so far. A littler pricier, but i've liked pretty much everything i've chosen so far. i have a referral code if anyone wants to check it out. the meals are made by actual chefs and delivered to house.

also, if the scale is correct, i'm down 17 pounds for the year so far. turning 40 in August :sadcat:, so i'd really like to hit 20, but my big goal is 25 before then.

I’m 37 and feel in the best shape of my life with weight loss. I keep hearing about how I’ll start to slow down and can’t be a workout machine forever but that hasn’t come yet. I’m sure I have slowed down in ways but I can’t tell and I’m still loving every minute of working out
