I'd say so. He is generally considered the third most popular Spider-Man villain, with only Green Goblin and Doc Ock preceding him. He is, at the very least, a very unique villain who shouldn't be overlooked because of a backlash to overexposure and bad writing in the 1990s.
 
While I love Venom (he's no my #1 favorite), I don't want to see him again right now.
 
I don't think people hate Venom, it's just all of this symbiote over-exposure that we're seeing in games, comics, etc that's making people dread seeing another symbiote related storyline.

If done well, the symbiote storyline could be VERY cool and interesting to see. I want to really see how the symbiote is affecting Peter, he starts to close himself off and flip out on everyone around him... the symbiote feeds upon that. The only way Peter would realize the reality of the situation is when he comes extremely close to killing a villain (under the influence of the symbiote, of course) like in the 90's animated show.

I had an interesting idea for how to handle Venom: Instead of Venom showing up for the climax, have a Peter vs Harry showdown. Afterwards, Peter is pushed in front of a train/bus/fill in blank by a mysterious, offscreen assailant, with no warning from his spider-sense. What do you think?
 
Symbiote should definitely be forgotten about for a few years. They have gotten way too much attention.
 
Venom is one of the "Top 3" of Spidey's villains and without a doubt,the most popular Marvel baddie ever. He better be in this new series,esp. if they plan of being more darker than Raimi's version.

I have actually grown to hate him, although the factors you pointed out have a LOT to do with why.

Venom's hype may have died down over the years,but I don't think there's any doubt he is Marvel's most popular villain. In fact,the over exposure that alot of you hate about him IS due to his popularity. Carnage can thank Venom for his creation as well,riding on Venom's popularity. Although it didn't work out to well,he was put in Spider-man 3 BECAUSE of how popular he was and how much everyone wanted to see him. In fact,Venom and the symbiote was the reason why Spidey 3 was so hyped and why,overall it made the most money of the 3.
But some of you hate him so much,you would never admit anything good about the character,so...

Hold on, Iwhen did I say I don't like Venom? He's one of my absoloute favorite Villains, but not my favorite. I've stated time and time again that I love the character, but there's no denying he's never had as much depth as the Green GOblin or Doc Ock. That doesn't make him bad by any means, he just has less of an in depth past.
 
Venoms always been my favorite but. Gobby is spideys number one.

Sorry,I never meant you,my friend. Everyone's entitled to their opinion,of course,but being a huge Venom fanantic,I just don't get all the hate. I think he's an awesome character.

He is. And I agree with you that he's Marvel's most popular Villian. He's a major reason why SM3 opened to $150 million+ on it's opening weekend. Unfortunately he was as mishandled in the film as he's (Eddie Brock) often been in the comics over the years. But his popularity is undeniable. Brock gets more interesting as the years go on IMO. I would love to see him in this upcoming series ("the suit" version), but I doubt it happens. Building up the Norman /Peter relationship will not give enough room for something like a well written Peter/Brock relationship to unfold. Osborn will be the monster in the closet in this series.
