Venom is not one of his greatest foes..

I'd say so. He is generally considered the third most popular Spider-Man villain, with only Green Goblin and Doc Ock preceding him. He is, at the very least, a very unique villain who shouldn't be overlooked because of a backlash to overexposure and bad writing in the 1990s.

I don't think people hate Venom, it's just all of this symbiote over-exposure that we're seeing in games, comics, etc that's making people dread seeing another symbiote related storyline.

If done well, the symbiote storyline could be VERY cool and interesting to see. I want to really see how the symbiote is affecting Peter, he starts to close himself off and flip out on everyone around him... the symbiote feeds upon that. The only way Peter would realize the reality of the situation is when he comes extremely close to killing a villain (under the influence of the symbiote, of course) like in the 90's animated show.

I had an interesting idea for how to handle Venom: Instead of Venom showing up for the climax, have a Peter vs Harry showdown. Afterwards, Peter is pushed in front of a train/bus/fill in blank by a mysterious, offscreen assailant, with no warning from his spider-sense. What do you think?

I have actually grown to hate him, although the factors you pointed out have a LOT to do with why.

That doesn't make him bad by any means, he just has less of an in depth past.

He is. And I agree with you that he's Marvel's most popular Villian. He's a major reason why SM3 opened to $150 million+ on it's opening weekend. Unfortunately he was as mishandled in the film as he's (Eddie Brock) often been in the comics over the years. But his popularity is undeniable. Brock gets more interesting as the years go on IMO. I would love to see him in this upcoming series ("the suit" version), but I doubt it happens. Building up the Norman /Peter relationship will not give enough room for something like a well written Peter/Brock relationship to unfold. Osborn will be the monster in the closet in this series.
