Watching the Ang Lee Hulk last night, i got the idea for this thread, i still think the first movie is SUPERB, and think it is an absolute crime that it will never get a direct sequel, i would have loved to see were Ang would have taken it as he did express an interest in doing one before Hulk was released.

Now, other than the great casting of Edward Norton, i must say i havent liked ANY of the news announcements on this new movie, and i dont think this new movie will reach the level of the first.

So, this is a thread for fans of the first movie to discuss their gripes and concerns about the new movie, and to discuss were Ang possibly would have gone with a sequel.

If I only wanted to see a Hulk movie, then I'd say this new movie is fine, but I loved the old 'Ang's Hulk' so I agree with you on certain levels.

i agree with you on Ang Lee's Hulk. but i'm willing to give this new one a chance.

^Oh i will be going to see the new one, but i just dont think it will have some of the intelligence or inventiveness of the first movie, i could be wrong, and if i am, i will say so, but so far i dont see it.

I will see this movie, but I agree it won't be nearly as good as Ang Lee's Hulk. This movie is an extremely underrated movie. It is one of my 4 favorite comic based movies. I don't feel the movie drags, I liked Bana's Banner, and Nolte was superb. I wish it would have been properly advertised. I still remember going to the theater, based on the trailers, saying this would be mindless crap. It turned out to be a great night at the cinema, and is probably the movie I was most shocked I liked when I saw it.

Is almost pointless to post in here because you have all ready say what I wanted to say

Anyway here it goes:

And the to me the CGI huls was perfect, one of the best CGi charaters in the screen...

but i'm willing to give this new one a chance. (Not that I have any other choice)

EXACTLY the way I feel. I expected Hulk to be the very king of mindless, blow-s**t up action flicks but it brought a level of intelligence and sophistication that I never would have expected in a comic book movie...And that pissed people off. lol Unless it's Tobey Maguire giving puppy dog eyes and b**ching about how s**ty his life is (he could at least be funny about it. Without the funny it's just complaining.), people don't care.

and you gotta love the fact that Ang himself portrayed the movements of Hulk. Now thats commitment.

I think in time people will realize how great this movie really was.

I liked his version. Hulk was a good movie.

Exactly like the comics? No. But it was still good.

The only things I really didn't care for:
1. His dad being my favorite Hulk villain of all (Absorbing Man).
2. Hulk growing up to 15 feet. That's too damn big. 8 feet is fine.

I agree with you all.

I still love Ang's Hulk, even so I'm semi-confident about this new movie.

I was fond of the old movie, it was long winded at times, but it was smart and imaginative, and paved the way for a more action packed sequel already, so dealing with a whole new cast and vision will be messed up...Specially since it seems like it will link with Angs version when it wants to, and ignore some parts...
If thats the case, they might as well have made a new movie, new origin, since everything else is new.
Jerks.

I like Ang's movie despite it's flaws. The good far, far, far outweighs the bad. Lee was probably not the best choice to direct that film, but there is a strong possibilty that he is a better choice than this new guy. Honestly, the only thing that has given me any hope is Norton being cast. Aside from that, everything else I have seen does not bode well.
However, I consider myself an open-minded guy (which is maybe why I liked the first film while others didn't), so I will be more than happy to give the new movie a chance to prove me wrong. In fact I'm very hopeful that it does.

Everything you guys have stated on this thread has echoed my sentiments exactly. I really REALLY love Ang's film, and i must have watched it for the 60th time the other night, and i still thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. And i have to say, the action scene's were very inventive, and were far better than the action in ANY other origin movie.

I also loved the psychological aspects as well though, and the intellegence of Ang's movie, and i just cant see any of that making it into this new movie.

I wish he had had enough budget to do the whole dog fight scene.

i wish he had a big enough budget to do the desert fight like he wanted to, his original verson had Hulk taking on planes and all sorts of s**t.

Well, if it had made enough for a sequel, me might have scene those things, or similar, in a sequel. Another damn shame it didnt.

Yeah me to. It sucks to know that Ang Lee had all of these great intentions to deliver a potentionally much better Hulk movie with much more action but didn't get to because he didn't have enough money in the budget to do all that he wanted.

Tell me about it, i mean, i LOVE the movie in its current form, but if we had gotten all that AL planned, i think we would have had something truly unforgettable.

I knew Ang Lee's Hulk was doomed in the first five minutes when they used the plant shape on his patio to creatively transition to the next scene. I thought to myself this guy is way too artsy for a comic flick. You can give me all the 'intelligent piece' arguments you want, comic book movies were meant to be terrific two hour popcorn fluff extravaganzas. I love reading the written form, but I'm realistic. Frank Miller wrote one of the greatest graphic novels ever in "Return of the Dark Knight" and then a few years later wrote "Robocop 2" for the big screen. Got Nuke? Yeah, my point is not to exepct too much from the big heroes. Everyone wants a story true to the classic Stan Lee/Jack Kirby origins. If you want to spend two hours on a man's psychological pitfalls from a shakey relationship with his family, adopt one of the newer comics, but stick with what made the legends famous in the first place.

Sorry but i totally disagree with all of this. There is NOTHING to suggest that a comic book movie cant have some intellegence, characterisation and thought to it, if we just got 2 hour action fests everytime, we'd have a lot more X3's, and less BB's, SR's, X2's and V For Vendetta's.

Plus, Miller script for Robocop 2 was totally butchered, so the finished movie was nothing like he intended.

I enjoyed the movie very much even though it was not a masterpeice. I am just glad a new movie is being made and the project was not left in limbo.

That's a hell of a well put point.

.

Actually, I was referring to movies like Batman Begins, Superman Returns, V for Vendetta and X2 when I said all comic films should be two hour fluff action fests. It is possible to make a good high budget action film, you know. Ang Lee just wasn't tuned in to what was necessary. I don't think we should ever have mindless studio machines like X3, I also don't think we should take eccentric directors out of the process who like to make their own artsy version of comic vehicles. Sin City worked, didn't it? It's possible to take a different approach to comic franchises, Ang Lee just didn't know what the hell he was doing, Robert Rodriguez did.

ACtually not for me. I got bored after the first 15 minutes. Some excellent comic violence turned ridiculous on screen. Sin City comics are a vastly better experience.

saw this movie again and I still like it...
I think Ang got the emotional scenes down really well, I love in particular the story about bruce's mother and when Betty 'finds' Bruce again and the whole military and Swat team is there
