Saw Iron Man last night and I'm obsessed with it now. I'm probably going to see it again Saturday or Sunday...and then a few times after that.

I'm not as into the comics as I'd like to be ($$$ issues) but I'm extremely curious to learn all the nods and similarities to the comics that were in this movie as there seem to be many and what better place than here to find them all.

Thusly, I have created this thread for comment, discussion, and listing of all those sweet little comic nods.

So lets get this rolling...Iron Man was Tony Stark's "bodyguard" for quite sometime in the comics...when did that stop and how?

He stopped being Stark's "Bodyguard" a couple times, one of them was during Armor Wars also known as Stark wars, in a attempt to deflect presure on SI, Tony Holds a press conference firing Iron Man for all his attacks on other armored heros and villians.
And there were the couple times his identity was revealed including Civil War.

Well did yall notice someone else didnt and thought Cool

I though it was kinda neat when Tonys figuring out what color he wants

For mark 3 and one of the designs was the silver centurion colors

Didnt notice any if you count Stan Lee and Nick Fury's cameo.

Didn't notice any?

- Rhodey's nod to the War Machine armour "next time baby."

- The Ten Rings, and Raza playing with his ring.

- SHIELD Easter Eggs aplenty

Any others I missed?

so were there alot of references to the MU in the film?

The fact that Tony's parents died in a car crash was a little detail I thought would've been overlooked.

Turning Obadiah into Tony's mentor was stroke of genius.

This was awesome, and I was the only person I know that noticed. This was also right after 'Jarvis' (an awesome comic nod throughout the whole movie) rendered him an all-gold version of the Mark III, another awesome comic nod.
Awesome.

Rhodey's line was great. And to add to that, when Tony tells Pepper about his plans to rid the world of his weapons, and that there is only the next mission, I'm pretty sure that Jarvis was displaying a War Machine color scheme for the suit, because it looked silver, with black details and black on the helmet, and I think I saw more guns on the shoulders and stuff.

The "hold still" and "be gentle, it's my first time" jokes when Tony was taking off the suit were poking fun at how in the comics, regular Jarvis was suspected of being gay, while Ultimate Jarvis is gay.

Stan Lee's cameo was maybe the best one yet.

And it's not really a secret, but Tony Stark had a drink in his hand, nearly the entire movie.

I cannot wait for Iron Man: Mark II, in 2010!

Can someone tell me where the Mandarin's 10 rings of power were in this movie. I think I remember seeing the main insurgent guy wearing one..but that's all.

also, how is the computer simulation of the Iron man suit in all gold a comic nod?

They did a great job with the easter eggs.I wish more Marvel and DC movies could do the same.

I knew about Nick Fury but i had no idea SHIELD were going to be in this too. So that was a very nice surprise.

Could you please list all the easter eggs you can remember?

I'm going to see this movie again tonight and I want to get as much out of it as I can :)

When Obadiah was talking to Tony about selling weapons he said "we're iron mongers"

In the original comics, Tony's second suit of armor was painted gold to make it less scary.

I never noticed how faithful they were with Iron Monger's movie design compared to the comics!

I didn't notice this myself but someone pointed out to me that during the scene were Stark is having the Mark III removed and Pepper walks in, there's supposed to be something resembling the Captain America shield in the background, anyone knows if that's true  I'll see if I can spot it next time I see the movie, so don't flame if it isn't true!

Did anyone notice the nod to War Machine, and I'm not on about Rhodey sayin "Next Time Baby" ?

Just before Tony says "tell ya what, put a little hot rod red in there", he has the face plate covering his face. Now people can say it's the Mark II faceplate, but it is DEFINITELY the same colours as War Machine.
The shot is on the official website also, the mask is black and grey, not silver like the Mark II, believe me.

I saw it as a nod to War Machine anyway, people have different interpretations of things :yay::oldrazz:

This is the War Machine toy

The mask in the film was the exact same colour.
It had writing on the front of it also in the movie, incase anyone's wondering what the hell I'm on about lol :oldrazz:

They've pretty much all been mentioned in this thread.:cwink:

Didn't see that either.

Edit - This could also be seen as an easter egg.

Also another very obvious one that comes up in conversation between Stark & Stane, after Tony shows Obadiah the miniature arc reactor in his chest, Stane says something along the lines of "we're weapons manufacturers,we're iron mongers"

I liked that, coz he never got called Iron Monger during the film :yay:

One not a lot of people seem to have caught is the possible nod to the X-Men during the initial Mk.II flight test. As Tony rockets skyward, Jarvis is giving him the details on what craft currently holds the record for highest altitude reached. It's revealed to be the Blackbird. And while the SR-71 Blackbird has held this record in real life, I don't think it does anymore. So this could definitely be seen as a a wink and a nod to X-men fans.

Oh yeah,War Machine during the credits animation - the machine guns on a shoulder :yay:
I've seen Iron Man twice now,I'm gonna watch it again later on in the week with my friend that I met when we started college.
I want this on DVD so badly :cmad: :bh: :hehe:

That was the Mark II faceplate. He had some calculations or measurements written on it, probably slight revisions.

Yeah I know it's the Mark II faceplate, just the colour scheme matched War Machine's lol :oldrazz:

I thought a great reference to the comics was when Iron Monger lifted up the car, and Iron Man blasted him with the Uni Beam and caught the car. Its exactly what happens in Extremis, only with Mallen instead of Iron Monger.
