I mean Ryan Reynolds went from playing a cruddy version of Deadpool in a Wolverine film to playing the real Deadpool so it could work. Hell Dame Judy Dench survived a James Bond reboot!

Age-wise it may be a problem (but could also be dismissed by the character not being human), but lately I’ve been really liking Jack Huston for Sinestro.

I know it's typically English actors we think of for Sinestro, but for some reason Alexander Skarsgård has felt like an interesting choice to me.

The only reason I could see it happening is the HBO connection. But then again Olyphant was on Deadwood.
