So given the offer to Brolin and other stuff, it seems like they are almost reversing the personalities of these two characters and making Hal a serious, jaded vet and John a young hotshot?

I dunno. I think making John a young, almost naive boy scout type and Hal the experienced Top Gun Maverick like character would work better.

It also happens to be a more interesting dynamic imo.

We probably shouldn’t discount character development here.

Just because Hal might be hardened at the start of the series, doesn’t mean he was always that way (we know Lindelof loves a flashback), and just because John is a hotshot when we meet him doesn’t mean he’ll always stay that way.

I feel like that’s precisely what’s going on but for some reason everyone thinks a 50 y/o is only being cast so he can be one-dimensional, then die.

No, back in like 2008 he was my pick for Thor but they were clearly looking for…something else with that role.

Aldis would be great, but maybe not young enough anymore, and certainly not a “fresh face.”

You really can’t go wrong with Olyphant or Pine buttttt I think I’m pulling for Chris Pine for this one. The casting description sounds more Olyphant-coded but Pine just seems like comic Hal to me.
