The Official Lanterns News & Discussion Thread

Yeah completely different. Unless they screen test went badly :whoa: :o :funny:

Yeah but that was just "short list" stuff. These two are screen-testing. That's a different scenario.
I know. I'm (mostly) being sarcastic lol. But it wouldn't have completely surprised me if it was another left field pick

The article above mentions James Gunn's involvement with the casting. I don't remember that being the case with Hal Jordan. My boi gonna be toast in one season :( lol.

Well

I vaguely recall him in Homecoming, he was good. I’m sure he tested well so I suppose it’s a benefit of the doubt situation. Can’t say I’m super excited for the show, given Hal is pretty much one foot in the grave…. but the talent involved makes me lean towards it’ll be solid at worst

Aaron Paul was supposed to die in Episode 2 of Breaking Bad...things change and so do contracts :)

Kyle Chandler is about to turn 60 years old, and this universe is just starting out… I don’t foresee him sticking around for very long lol.

Idk; Hal Jordan isn't a super physical role though. And Kyle Chandler looks to be in great shape. Do I think we'll see an 80 year old Hal? No, probably not, but I wouldn't consider his age an automatic no-go on any sequel or further DCU appearances.

It would be awesome to see some sort of adaptation/homage to Final Night with Hal Jordan / Parallax saving the universe.

Hoping James takes the role, it's about time he got an opportunity like this. Aaron will get his chance soon enough I am certain.

Patience my fellow DC fans. WB has to let the Joker bomb settle…… Gunn is involved because John Stewart is probably going to be the main Green Lantern going forward in the DCU.

I still keep thinking about this series being Earth-based and how, with a possibly bigger budget, we could maybe get something more cosmic or something that's easier to pull off in animation. We have no idea what the budget is, yeah, but this is Warner Bros that we're talking about. I haven't seen The Mandalorian or any of the new Star Trek shows, but I have to guess that those look believable to viewers, right?

Nah we’ve known John was gonna be the main guy for the DCU for a while so Gunn’s involvement there is not really new info.

I enjoy James and his brother's work. Stephen James older brother is actor Shamier Anderson who played Mr Nobody in the last John Wick movie. They have another brother who is in the military

I didn't say he will last until the end just that he might last long enough for a proper Zero Hour in a few years ;)

Lol such weird takes over this show.

This creative crew > Jordan being the "main GL" for ~5-10 years.

The character is leading a 8H HBO show. It's not like he's being ignored completely. But, as we all know, if you're 60, you're destined to die.

Great actress…character doesn’t sound like Carol though. :hmm

Ferris industries must have fallen on REALLY hard times that this is how Carol has to pay the rent.

I saw a "scooper" say there is another female role being cast that may be Carol. That DCU Leaks page I posted the other day was teasing Carol, but who knows. I guess this could be Carol still, even though it doesn't sound like her... But Hal's description didn't really sound like him either.

I don’t trust that previous tweet. That account has not had a single actual scoop. But this I trust. Will be interesting if Carol’s also in this.

I wonder if Lindelof might be employing some of the old LOST casting methods. As far as I can remember, anytime they added someone new to the cast, the character name and description was almost never anything like who they ended up being on the show.

That’s the Abrams method, iirc from the Star Trek days as well. Makes sense Lindelof would be the same.

If Kelly MacDonald is indeed in this, and playing the town sheriff / love interest it could be Rose Lewis:

Rose Lewis Hardin was an acquaintance of Hal Jordan, whom he met when he visited the town of Desolation, West Virginia early in his career.

Later, when he wanted to reconnect with his humanity, he returned to her town (now called Hope Springs), and asked her for some work in exchange for room and board. While he worked there, he struck up a friendship with her son Toby, and held some romantic feelings for her. He was allowed to work there until she discovered that he was a Green Lantern, at which point she asked him to leave.

Later, the Guardian Appa Ali Apsa - known to Hal as the Old Timer - having been the sole occupant of Oa for years, went insane. He created a mind-union with the unfortunate John Stewart in order to retrace his steps through the Universe, and transplant cities from each place he had visited, and bring them to Oa. One of these cities included Hope Springs, and a terrified Rose found herself trapped on Oa in a Mosaic of cities from all around the universe.

Even after the rogue guardian was disposed of, violence and intolerance eventually broke out between the many species trapped on the planet. With the Mosaic under the charge of John Stewart, Rose became a friend to him, and a key figure in the building of a union between the alien races that were forced to settle there.

Her debut issue in 1990 has Hal, John, and Guy on the cover. Sort of a cool story set-up too.

Brolin... Kelly MacDonald... what's next? Javier Bardem as Sinestro? Woody Harrelson as Kilowog? Tommy Lee Jones as Ganthet?
