The Official Lanterns News & Discussion Thread

Is this show supposed to be in the DCU or not? Weird how Gunn seems very passive about the casting of Hal Jordon of all people.
It’s DCU. Gunn said the mystery that Hal and John will start the overall ark of the DCU storyline. Remember Superman will be a story about Superman/Clark Kent getting a grip on his krytonian heritage.

Yes, Gunn said it’s a big part of the DCU. As has been clear for a while, John Stewart is going to be the main GL of the DCU to start with. Hal and Guy are the older vets. And Hal is likely a one-season wonder.

That gives me hope Saulnier has plans for a Rebel Ridge sequel with Aaron.

The actor already has had a brush with the comic book realm. He once was cast opposite Mahershala Ali in Marvel Studios’ Blade, but the version of the long-delayed movie morphed, and he will not be involved going forward.

Nice to beat the MCU to the punch for once.

Would that open the door for Mia Goth to play a character in the DCU?

I think flickchick said he wasn't involved with Hal casting because most likely he will not be in the DCU, or at least not the main GL. When he was speaking about Hal casting rumors awhile back, he said Mundy & Lindelof had some great actors they wanted in the role, so with how he said it, doesn't seem invested in Hal as a character.

Think we’re reading a lot into things to say he’s or interested in the character. He’s the co-lead of an HBO show. That’s beyond interest.

Yeah for the record I never said he wasn’t interested in Hal, just suggested he may have been more directly involved with the John casting since John’s gonna be the main DCU guy.

Given Neal Adam's orginal idea with John Stewart's character desing I expect Aaron Pierre's casting to have at least a bit of backlash.

It already has a bit. Not a lot, but definitely a bit.

Neal Adams wanted to represent dark-skinned black people in a predominantly white industry, which is admirable, but now we're supposed to deny the blackness of people like Pierre however many decades later?

And no disrespect to the dead or his legend, but Adams was a white man, and as a black man, I can't pretend to be too hung up on his words when it comes to what or who is black enough. Idc if he co-created the character.

And then you got people just ignoring the DCU's current black actors in order to claim Gunn and co. are racist.

Im here for this casting.

Though im over the "gunn has to confirm it for it be true" on the interwebs. these trades aren't making up random info (in regards to Kyles casting)
What, so when Gunn shot down THR's report that Pom Klementieff was cast in Superman, he was lying?

Personally, I like that Gunn at least confirms what is accurate. Does it always need to be done? No, maybe not, but it certainly helps push back on scooper madness and on occasions when the trades get things wrong.

Did I say that Gunn was lying? I said they arent making up rumors. They have legitimate sources, they arent your twitter scooper. If they get it wrong, someone legit had to have fed it to them.

Lets not forget even WB, the actual studio, stated that Jason mamoa was going to play Frosty in a role that he knew nothing about it.
