The Official Lanterns News & Discussion Thread

And you see people acting insane over it too. A woman was cast and now the creators all of a sudden don't care about GL since she's not playing Carol Ferris.
“A 60-year-old Hal Jordan has a love interest who isn’t the one intimately tied to his origin story?? She’s been ERASED!!!”

Social media folks are absolutely allergic to looking for context.

They’re joking but I was honestly waiting for someone to do it for real.

To be fair we dont actually know if Hal will stick around. I can see fans justifiably not being happy about the choices made here. I am really looking forward to the show but wish they had gone younger than Hal especially with it being possibly hes only going to be a one season character.

Should we over-think why he would include a song with the word “Watchtower” in it, or should we maintain some degree of sanity?

Gunn and company keep hitting home runs with casting on all their shows and movies. I guess since WB does not have any money to pay “A” listers like Disney the “B” up and comers is the way to go. 😉

Aaron Pierre as John is my favorite piece of news. All the terrestrial characters and the terrestrial focus of the story are disappointing but hoping the show is good in spite of that. Earth One GL was just ok, certainly not a comic I’d take much inspiration from, but whatever. Keeping an open mind but not caring as much as I thought I would.

I felt the same about Penguin- wasn’t excited leading up to it. But holy **** what a show

"All"... There's two Lanterns and two "terrestrial characters" lol

idk why people are acting like lots of Lantern stories don't take place on Earth, but I highly doubt they're on Earth to investigate bankrobbings or some white-collar crime. It's gonna be some alien type **** going on in their sector. That's the whole premise. Earth being in their sector has never seemed to be a problem for people until now.

In a universe where you have Superman fighting a kaiju, the craziness of Peacemaker, and Creature Commanders, I can’t imagine Lanterns will be boring. I just wonder how they will incorporate the True Detective vibe into the show.

I was being sarcastic. No part of me thinks this will be boring.
I know you were but some posters are concerned this show will be a True Detective drama with little power ring action because of the way Gunn talks about the show.

Do you guys think Hal and John will wear their GL suits at all? I'm (kind of) concerned they won't, given the grounded approach they're seemingly going for with the show, but ofc it's still a bit too early to say. That said, they'll probably go undercover as civilians for most of the season, so I don't expect too much flashy stuff.

I'm still cautiously optimistic though.

I have zero doubt in my mind that they'll be in their costumes at some point in the series. I could see it being a finale type moment.

I think the term grounded has lost all meaning. Nothing about them saying its grounded tells me they're not gonna wear their suits. Seems like that's more about tone and story, meaning it deals with relationships or the human condition, as opposed to just 8 episodes of beating up aliens.

I really don't see them forgoing the suits or the rings or scifi as a concept.

I hope you're right! I was just saying that because maybe green glowing suits aren't very useful when you're solving a crime in a small town, where I assume they'd want to go unnoticed. But yeah, this is just based on the vibes I'm getting from the show, I could be totally wrong.

Sure. That's more of a blanket statement than anything cause I've seen a lot of people contort the term grounded all which ways. All good.

I think they could do a ton w their look and it's use in a small town visually. I know a green GL suit isn't the same as a detective or a cop or a FBI agent in their respective get ups, but it could fit the same sort of idea of the uniform alienating them.

I wouldn't be so quick to bet on that...

Rumor has it that the whole series is a kind of road-trip after the two Lanterns have their rings stolen by a gang of Rednecks during vacations.
Those have no idea of the rings' power until the last episode, when their use turns them into an energy blob.

:o
