Hell yeah!

He was an excellent and layered antagonist in Banshee:

MOD NOTE: Deleted video due to language.

(I picked the least spoilery scene, in case you end up watching this show, which I highly recommend.)
Had to delete the video due to language, but OMG, I did not realize that was him! This is excellent.

If Sinestro is on the table, I wonder what other alien lanterns we might see.

Kilowog? Katma Tui?

As much as I liked True Detective, I don't really get using that as a template for your space cop series. Solving murders in the American heartland seems beneath the Lantern Corp skill set.

The Green Lanterns work both on Earth and in outer space.

That's the beauty of the concept.

Seems smart to me to introduce them in something more Earth-based, and hammer home the fact that they're in their own way cops, create a connection to these two human characters, and gradually pull the general audience into outer space and strange planets together with them.

Also, the fact that the season of the show will be mostly Earth-based doesn't mean that it's "beneath their skill set." There's likely a reason for them investigating in teh American heartland, and a thread that's worthy of the Corps' attention.

Also, I wouldn't exclude portions of the show to be set in outer space, or that we might cut back on forth between Hal and John on Earth, and other team members doing research back on Oa and other places.

That's fair but it seems like they're making this dark and edgier than it honestly needs to be. Between Peacemaker, Creature Commandos and now the direction they're saying they're going with this, it's starting to feel like we traded one edgelord for another just the current edgelord actually likes the source material

Maybe let's just wait and see before making any assumptions and throw around empty buzzwords!?

It's not an "empty buzzword" if you know exactly what I'm taking about when I use it. Considering I've seen Gunn's last three DC projects, it's a fairly safe assumption.

"Edgelord" means nothing. It is an empty buzzword, overly simplistic, and doesn't do the concepts of tone and storytelling any justice.

I mean Green Lantern epics tend to be rather dark..
Are they though? Blackest Night was essentially Power Rangers with power ring zombies and got incredibly ridiculous in the best possible ways as it went along. I'd like a happy medium, personally and we might get that but my expectations are low. We got the showrunner from Ozark, The villain from Banshee (who I think is a legitimately solid choice) and they keep name dropping True Detective. We're talking about some of the most nihilistic television ever committed to screen and those shows are great, but I'm skeptical if it's going to work for Green Lantern.

You still knew exactly what I'm talking about when I said it ergo it's not "empty" and has meaning. You just don't like that it's dismissive which is fair, you're clearly invested in this project.

I believe you're overthinking the True Detective/Ozark part of it all.

You keep saying that, but where have I commented about it / hinted at knowing exactly what you mean, beyond the fact that I find "edgelord" to be a completely empty buzzword, which means everything and nothing, lacks any nuance, and IMO shouldn't be used in a conversation past the age of 12.

The fact you have such a reactionary opinion on a word suggests that you're smart enough to understand what people mean when they use it. If you somehow miraculously don't understand what the word means, Google is available to you on the device you posted this from.

Oh cool. So we had like half a day to enjoy a great piece of casting before we snap right back to jumping to conclusions based on a logline.
Welcome to the Hype forums

They cast a pink alien and we still think True Detective is the only influence? lol obviously that "grounded" thing isn't as literal as detractors wanna harp on. It's two differing cops unraveling a conspiracy-esque crime. Thats the TD part.

I highly doubt they're investigating a human crime. And It is exactly the Corps' job to investigate strange murders in their sector.

You're more than likely correct. Upon self reflection, I'm projecting my disappointment with what we've gotten so far out of this new DCU onto this project which isn't fair to this series. I do think they've knocked it out of the park with the cast thus far and I am gonna watch it regardless. I had zero interest in The Penguin series when it was announced then watched it on on whim and now it's one my favorite pieces of mobile media ever.

If they make something that objectively works, I'm here for it.

But Gunn isn't doing this show...? Also, Lanterns sounds radically different from any of his projects.

It's set in his DCU and he's an EP on it. He's still the mastermind behind how it's all supposed to fit together in the end but to your point, it won't be the same copy/paste job we've seen over his last three DC projects. I'm still excited for Superman despite my current disappointment with projects we've gotten.

Exactly.

And Superman feels completely different, and that's Gunn's.

Also, how are people surprised that Peacemaker and Creature Commandos of all things share the same kinda DNA as The Suicide Squad?

There's a difference between "sharing the same DNA" and shamelessly recycling the same formula. Creature Commandos is so formulaic if I wrote out beat sheets for each episode, they would look damn near identical. You have to put some kind of different spin on it or your gonna lose people. When we know all the tricks, it's not engaging anymore.
