The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 7

I'd say pick someone who can easily pass for someone who acts very approachable and charming in the public light, so that when he finally shows his true colors, or snaps if pushed to his limit, it comes as a shock. And even when he's done that, he always has to have that smug look on his face, like he's not afraid to let you know that he has something up his sleeve or knows something you don't, but won't tell you what it is.

The key to his character is that he thinks he's better than anyone else, knows he's playing his opponents, and enjoys every minute of it. He's a charming character, even when he's trying to take down or kill other characters, but you still can't help but love to hate him.

I've heard people suggest Matt Damon for the part, and I agree. He can play friendly and charming, but also smug, creepy and psychotic.

Totally. Any one who wants to see the range this guy has should watch Departed, Talented Mr Riply, School Ties , and of course the Bourne films. I actually think he's bald in his next film , so that gives an idea of what he would look like bald at least. In alot of ways he's as diverse as Amy Adams actually.

If ANYONE is STAS Lex, it's shaved head Tom Hardy. I mean, those lips...

Yeah, unsure how this could be black...

Arayan (unsure if I'm spelling that right, maybe, but not black)

If we base off him, we should call Jacob.

Billy ****ing Zane. Superman: The Animated Series' Lex.
Yeah after getting such actors as Heath Ledger, Michael Shannon and Liam Neeson to play the villians in WB/DC movies lets give one of the most iconic villian roles to a hammy Z list actor who can barely get a role in a non syfy channel movies.

Or Greek, considering who he was modeled after.

Umm.. Greeks are white. Lex isn't Greek anyway though. His name was just based on Alexander the Great because Lionel envisioned him becoming a very powerful man one day, much like the aforementioned conqueror of legend.

I don't think they're going to go with a guy that's already bald. They'll probably just have the actor shave his head prior to filming.

You shut your Cavill-licking mouth when speaking of The Phantom in such a manner!! Billy Zanetooth is a saint!!! :argh:

Slightly typical, but if he can do an american accent (didn't he have one in Red Dragon?), Ralph Finnes?

I'd say Arnold Vosloo from The Mummy.

What if he takes over the main role from Cavill though? :wow:

This is freaking me out. I first thought he looked like he could be Marlon Brando's son in that pic, and then realized that incarnation was Marlon Brando's son. Then thought that would be eerily perfect casting, yet awful. I don't know what I'm saying! [/meltdown]

I know what you mean. :oldrazz:

In the MOS casting discussions before hand, this was my perfect casting choice for Lex. I absolutley loved this guy from the get-go. I know he was first cast as Perry White in SR, but he always had more of a Luthor vibe to me.

th

Hugh Laurie

I've seen some truly scary choices, I am so glad none of us are casting MOS2. (If it's made)

That's kind of the point and fun in it all. Mostly, some peoples casting predictions are nowhere near the final product and it's possible not one of these suggestions we have in here won't come close in a few years also haha.

Though we as a whole, were HUGE on Cavill and/or Hamm when things started heating up and Cavill's casting couldn't of gone any better.

Brought this up in the sequel forum, but since most people are still here...

What do you guys think about John Hawkes as Lex? I think he could be pretty awesome. For Lex to be effective, you need an actor who can be as intense as Shannon's Zod, and Hawkes is pretty damned brilliant in that regard. He can also play a master manipulator really, REALLY well.

Casting Lex could actually be just as difficult as casting a Lois Lane, if not even MORE difficult. You have to cast a man for Lex that is not only a headstrong of brilliance, but as if he was to be a leading role of a "white knight" for the people of Metropolis, but a master manipulator of a corrupt businessman/scientist with an obsession that spawns of hatred and jealousy for the love and admiration of the Superman character, one who feels betrayed our race can so openly and acceptably adore an alien and would do some nasty things to push Superman over his limits when it comes to our protection that would only make him look like the hero in some cruel behavior.

In this new world, a sequel could be mind-blowing in face to face altercations, even without heavy action this time around.

I'm hoping that happens.....I can imagine lex reminding Supes of how he killed Zod, and say something along the lines of"if you could kill someone from your own homeworld, what makes us any different?" That could start a very heated conversation between them two
