Liv Tyler is Betty Ross in...The Incredible Hulk!

Green light for Tyler as 'Hulk' flame

Liv Tyler will star opposite Ed Norton in Marvel Studios' "The Incredible Hulk," signing on to play Betty Ross, the longtime love interest of Dr. Bruce Banner/the Hulk. Louis Leterrier is directing the movie, which is being produced by Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Kevin Feige.

Ross, a classic "Hulk" character from the comic book's beginning in 1962, is Banner's fellow scientist and an ally in his quest to rid him of his lurking monster deep inside. The movie will unfold with Ross estranged from Banner (Norton), but with the pursuit of the Hulk heating up and Banner on the run trying to cure his condition, Ross finds herself swept back into his life.

Jennifer Connelly played the character in the 2003 movie "Hulk," directed by Ang Lee.

Filming on the new "Hulk" is slated to begin in the summer in Toronto. Universal Pictures is distributing.

The film is being executive produced by Jim Van Wyck, David Maisel, Arad and Stan Lee.

Tyler, who gained international recognition as Arwen in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, was most recently seen in Mike Binder's "Reign Over Me," with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. Her upcoming films include the indie comedy "Smother" and the horror thriller "The Strangers."

Tyler is repped by UTA and the Schiff Co.

Yeah. I've given him enough slack. Maybe he'll surprise me, but I won't count on it.

Great casting, though. Go Marvel.

I would rather see Jennifer Connelly return and play Betty. But I'm okay with Liv Tyler. Much better casting than the rumor of Biel playing Betty.

Whereas Norton was a huge step up from Bana,I see this casting choice as a huge step down.Conelly's performance was solid.

As for Zak Penn being a "solid" writer,oh please.X3,Elektra,Mr and Mrs Smith,just to name a few were all terrible films IMO.The fact that Marvel is entrusting so many properties to this guy (don't even get me started on the Avengers thing)is laughable from a professional standpoint.

It's not a direct sequel any more than a James Bond follow up is a direct sequel. Though it takes place after his origin and after the events of the first film on a timeline.

Great casting! This movie I hope, will be aewsome! First Norton now Tyler, Marvel seem to know what theye're doing. Now, only if they could get all their properties back.

Hulk and ironman I'm sure wil be great.

Actually he screwed up Elektra! I know that was partly Fox's part but he still was very much involved.

After some thought, I like this choice alot.

It's easy to sympathize with Liv Tyler. She has such a sweet, delicate innocence about her. She brought people to tears in Armageddon and LOTR. Not just any actress can evoke such emotion from movie goers.

Her angelic appearance and soft, whisper of a voice contrasts perfectly with the brute rage and destructive force of the Hulk.

She will be great as the only human who can calm the unstoppable monster.

Great choice.

Perhaps she was read for the role and was good for the part. You don't have to pick an actress for a movie who is the flavour of the month.

Though i dont think much of her in the looks department, she is a VERY good actress, she made a small role memorable in LOTR, and she was very good in Armageddon.

She's no Connolly, but she is more than an adequate replacement.

I would be completely and utterly excited about this movie if Zak Penn wasnt involved.

I'll be honest, I've never read a Hulk comic book or seen the first movie. The most I know about it is through my boyfriend playing the video game. But I just had to stop by after hearing that Liv Tyler has been cast along with Ed Norton (who is one of my fave actors!). Having these two on board makes me wanna see this movie. Liv Tyler is beautiful and a very underrated actress...and Edward Norton's work speaks for itself. I might have to start doing a little Hulk research!

So, is this movie a sequel then? I guess that means I'll have to watch the first movie in that case.
