The Official Marvel Recommendations Thread

I'm looking for good stories regarding Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Any recommendations?

Well the key early stuff is when they were in the Brotherhood during the 60's against the X-Men and in the 70's as the 2nd incarnation of the Avengers with Cap and Hawkeye. Quicksilver tended to pop up when she was in Avengers West Coast during the 80's. There's also the recent House of M event that revolved around them.

The most important recent stuff was (in chronological order):

Avengers 500-503 (Scarlet Witch)
House of M 1-8 (Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver)
New Avengers 26 (Scarlet Witch)
Son of M 1-6 (Quicksilver)
X-Factor 8-24 (Quicksilver)
X-Factor: The Quick and the Dead one-shot (Quicksilver)
Mighty Avengers 21-33 (Quicksilver)
Avengers: The Children's Crusade 1-8 (Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver)

All of that is kinda one era of story dealing with the aftermath of Disassembled (Avengers 500-503). They've both shown up since then, but that's all been sort of a defining modern story for them.

Could anyone recommend any Venom/Carnage stories? After bingeing on Man Thing and Secret Warriors, I am now in the mood for some Symbiote stories.

You mean them together or separate? The only stories I like with them together were ASM 361-363 (which was Carnage's debut) and Maximum Carnage.

Venom stories I like were the classics:
ASM 300
ASM 315-317
ASM 332-333
ASM 346-347

Also the issue where he was dying and tried to kill Aunt May wearing a Venom costume. New Ways to Die was a good, somewhat recent story.

A good carnage story was Peter Parker Spider-Man vol 2 #13 when Cletus Kasady had lost the symbiote, covered himself in red paint and ran around NYC with a knife.

Thanx for the suggestions! I plan to dive into them.

I thought Amazing Spider-Man Annual 28 was good as well. It was a stand alone issue against Carnage.

Hey folks

Looking for some recommendations, particularly for Captain Marvel / The Avengers / Black Widow.

The book that started it all for me was "The Life Of Captain Marvel" which is a Jim Starlin run from the 70s that collects Captain Marvel 25-34, Iron Man 55, Marvel Feature 12. Thanos is a big character in this so I've already ordered Infinity Gauntlet and the Rebirth of Thanos. I already have "The Death of Captain Marvel".

I'd particularly like to read the issues where Rick Jones and Captain Marvel become joined (are these collected anywhere? which issues are they?) but I'd also like some recommendations for Avengers and Black Widow. Ultimates 1 and 2 are a big success in my house and I've already started the Busiek run on the Avengers. Further (collected) recommendations very welcome.

The story you are looking for started in the 1999 maxi-series Avengers Forever by Kurt Busiek. That is definitely collected in a trade paperback. The story of Rick and Genis-Vell continued in Captain Marvel vol 4 and ran for 30 some odd issues. I think that was collected but it may be tough to find because there were so many different Captain Marvel series. I would check on Amazon for Captain Marvel by Peter David (who wrote the series).

1. Outside of Claremont, Whedon, and Morrison - all of whose X-comics I own-can anyone recommend some good Cyclops stories?
2. Outside of Remender, can anyone recommend any good X-Force titles?
[Edit: I revised the post as I ended up answering the previous question and bought the volume in question.]

The Cyclops one is tough. Outside of the 3 guys you mentioned that did the most work with the character, you can probably look to the early issues of X-Factor vol 1 and Scott Lobdell's brief return to the X-Men franchise when Cyclops returned from the dead right before Morrison took over. He did a nice issue examining the relationship between Scott and Corsair.

As for X-Force, I never really liked much of the team when it was focused on the Cable/New Mutants group. The most intriguing time I'd say was post X-Cutioner's Song when Cable was MIA and it forced the team to move on without him and they were cut off from any support from Xavier and X-Factor.

I enjoyed the volume of X-Force that Kyle and Yost wrote just before Remender's run.

I liked it as well. It was a huge departure from the previous incarnations that revolved around Cable and the former New Mutant class so I keep the two separate when talking about the books.

Point taken, they are similar in name only.

Hey guys!

Couple months ago I got a subscription to marvel unlimited. I just got caught up on Slotts recent run of Spider-Man/Superior and I've read most of Strazynskis pre and post Civil War run. So now I'm pretty overwhelmed by my choices here. Just looking for some jumping on/starting/good storyline to get into from any character. I would really like to get into xmen and avengers stuff now if anyone has some good recommendations!

Thanks!

Hickman's run on Avengers is not the most accessible; I found myself Comic Vining more often than reading. Before him, Bendis' run on the Avengers books is really good. As for X-Men, Jason Aaron's Wolverine & The X-Men is pretty good (it was the main X-Book I followed.)

Now, my inquiries:

1. Is Inhumanity any good?
2. Outside of the Kirby/Lee and Jae Lee series, can anyone recommend any good stories featuring the Inhumans?

The current Thor series, Black Widow, Punisher and She-Hulk are some of the best going on at Marvel right now. I've heard the Magneto solo is good, as is the Loki Agent of Asgard. All are pretty new under 10 issues in with the exception of Thor which has been going on for over 20 issues but is oh so worth it.

We were talking about Earth X recently. The Inhumans were pretty key to that series. There was also Son of M, the Quicksilver series that spun out of House of M where he tried to steal the Terrigan Mists to jump start the mutant race again.

i HIGHLY Recommend the following current on going monthly titles. I have many more, but off the top of my head these are my favorite titles right now. I have read alll the issues out for each over so many times! My over all favs are definitely Ms marvel and captain marvel. The level of writting in ms marvel is awesome to me and the Art in Captain Marvel is my absolute favorite thing to look at each month! David Lopez has gods fingers! punisher is a honerable mention, the art has been stunning up untill this weeks issue, i hated the art, it wasnt awful but after the previous issues being so good, it looked like crap to me.

if anyone has ever had any doubts about Dr strange, or if you want a good little intro to him i cant stress enough that you pick up this annual, the art will BLOW you away, all though i wouldnt want every issue to look the way this one does, its like a once in awhile treat to me. But this annual is SO GOOD

I agree with a few of those namely New Avenger, DD and Black Widow. ESPECIALLY Black Widow. That book is goooooooooood

You could have just typed them though lol. Thanks for putting in the effort for pictures I guess. :funny:

Ahhhh....so young, so much to learn. :o

seeing covers as opposed to words will influence people more, atleast i think so.

Hello all,

I am quite new to comics and Marvel world. I'd like to purchase Marvel unlimited and get into the comics, but I was wondering if I should start with the very first issue, or if there is a "cut-off" point where I should start from?

Below is a list of stories I am interested in:

Spider-Man
X-Men
Thor
Captain America
Hulk
Iron Man
Fantastic Four
Shield stories
Deadpool
Infinity stories

Thanks for all the help!
