X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

Bishop isn't even of African descent at all, he's an Aboriginal Australian from the future.
To be fair Bishop being the great-grandson of Gateway and thus an Aborigine, was a (very) poorly thought out retcon in the pages of X-Treme X-Men many, many, many years after his debut in Uncanny. Heck, Claremont gave Bishop the realname: "Lucas Bishop" in those same pages, meaning his own sister Shard was calling her own brother by their last name ("Bishop") for years and years and years.

What I'm saying is Bishop, for all intents and purposes was an African American. Until he wasn't.

But no Maggott was never one.

Wasn’t there something where Bishop’s grandmother was supposed to be a member of the X-Men and was hinted to be Storm?

Or am I getting my 90’s comics memories mixed up?

X-Men in 2027-2028. Adjusts your fancasts accordingly guys

I don't see why Marvel Studios' X-Men can't be released in 2026 if they wanted to.

Armor Wars could likely be the July 2025 Mcu movie, and there could be two more movies in between Armor Wars and Secret Wars. Plus there would be more Mcu movies in 2025 after Secret Wars, at least one.

But like I said before, I hope they retire some of the older heroes in Secret Wars. Because damn we if get Ant-Man 4, Hulk 2, Thor 5, Guardians of the GalaXy Vol. 4 and Captain America 5 before Marvel Studios' X-Men. Like for real.

Probably one of those things where writers hint at things (on the comic pages or in interviews) but said writer leaves the title and the hint is forgotten. Remember how Gambit was strongly hinted as the 3rd Summers bro? lol

I loved Warewold By Night and I'd like to see the special presentation banner used again for a few X-Men characters.

Not Storm though. I hope she gets a solo movie. Give that to someone like Coogler and watch it make a billion.

Love this! I think the Fox movies missed the point for the most part and failed to really address the allegory that mutants represent. The MCU really has all the tools they need to make their version of the X-Men more modern and also explain all the social issues that humans of different races, ethnicity, sexual orientation and backgrounds face daily.
I agree that Fox missed the mark entirely in this respect. And I would like to see that improved in the MCU. However, the way this guy described what he thinks the X-Men should be makes me a liiiiittle nervous. I think people need to realize that the key to great allegory is subtlety. And this is what Hollywood misses a lot of the time. You have to lay a good foundation with solidly drawn characters and mix in the message/ themes, of course. But you also have to respect your audience and trust that they are smart enough to figure it out for themselves without you beating them over the head with your message. I know that I hate feeling like a piece of media is preaching at me.

Not a one-to-one comparison for sure... But the subtlety of Black Panther was one of the things I loved about it and arguably one of the reasons why it was so effective. You have themes of white supremacy, systemic oppression and anti-blackness, pan-Africanism, the empowerment and diversification of the black woman, black love, black self-sufficiency and much more all rolled into one movie. It is all there and prominent, yet it is woven into the story so well and they allow you to figure it out. A lot of these themes are never even explicitly talked about. That is good writing and that is what I would like to see in the MCU X-Men.

Granted, ya can't have X-Men without Charles/Erik conversations about the mutant cause. I just hope they aren't SUPER heavy-handed in exploring the topic. That's all.

And speaking of which, I think if any character is going to be race bent, Scott Summers has one of the strongest cases.

He grew up in the system, w/out a father figure in his life. His mutation makes him "dangerous", unpredictable, and out of control-- all labels that are assigned to Black men at birth. He's fighting the police, and leading revolutions.

I think the subtext is pretty obvious. I always related to Summers more than the other X-Men for this reason, even Ororo.
Oh right, interesting to know that (wouldn't have guessed). Maybe I'm getting slightly convinced... :cwink:

Yeah, I'm not bothering trying to cast the film till we're closer the time and know the release date. Plus I'm pretty bad at that anyway. :D
