Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

I'm interested in the look and design. hope it doesn't look anywhere near that V-shaped dev kit that got leaked.
It looks terrible and the design looks very dated.

I'm hoping for something sleek and smaller/thinner.

yeah. hope the design is both visually nice and appealing but also functional.

one thing I disliked about the Pro's design was that the "indented" front USB ports made them largely inaccessible to most standard USB sticks (or at least the kind I could find locally).

Likewise, the new Xbox Series X design has a very unique design (well, compared to traditional consoles). But, I worry the default vertical orientation will make it harder to fit in media cabinets. Even if you position it horizontally, it seems taller than the usual horizontal console. So, again, if space is tight in your media area, then the size/design of the Series X could be an issue.

I like the design of Series X however, it does look like a cpu and not a console. I definitely want ps5 to look like a game console and not a cpu, that looks lighter to carry, smaller (to not take up more space in the room) and visually appealing.

As for the controller, I want some minor changes but I don't want it look 100 percent the same as ps4s.

So rumor but this is the same thing that did happend with ps4 back in 2013 and either way we will know it was bs soon if it dont happen.

Yeah, I want the exact same design, just with sturdier triggers and rear paddle buttons

Definitely important to get sturdier triggers. That would help heaps

If its fully backwards compatible all the way back to the original PS, then I'm buying the danged thing Day One!

That prob won't happen
but backwards compatible to PS4 is very likely, and add on PSNow and you're pretty much there

New Ratchet & Clank trilogy ❤ god i hope it's true. A new sequel trilogy sounds rad as hell. I'm hoping they are more in the spirit of the ps2 titles. Im a big fan of "gaming brit" and his R&C videos

I don't believe that article at all. But I would like to be surprised.

Feels very fanboy wish list-y to me.

You know what they need? No beeping sound when you turn it on so when a boring person is speaking you can covertly sneak it on and work through a few god of war levels before they notice

I don't mind the controller light but I rarely notice it especially when it changes color. Like its only really useful to remind users that it ran out of battery, like if you are using the console to watch stuff online.

I play in a dark room a lot so the light tends to be very noticeable for me. But it doesnt hold a candle to the Xbox controller's light. That thing is absurdly bright and it's on top of the controller so when playing in a dark room the player has this bright white light right in front of them. That light honestly hurts my eyes if the game fades to black or their is a dark scene. Id like to throw the controller at whoever thought that was a good design choice.

Nintendo's switch pro controller is the best. It only has a tiny indicator light on the top of the controller to indicate it's on or charging.

Man I hope that article is right if for no other reason than it has Full Backward Compatibility across all PS Formats as the last key feature listed.

Oh dear, price is an important factor for me

$450 is a decent price, I am expecting $500 so if thats true then thats quite good news. This would be the first playstation console that Im getting during its first year.

I'm hearing that the $450 is the manufacturing cost for Sony per unit. Not the retail price. So Sony will need to sell it for $550 per unit at least if they want a profit. The Xbox X is supposed to be around $550 so that's good for Sony.

It's also possible this could be another PS3 situation. They will sell the console at a loss the first year so they can undercut the Xbox X. If they do that they may sell it for $450.

They almost always sell the console at a loss at launch so that will be nothing new. I think they will aim for $499 though. I would hope the execs in charge now realize the value in being cheaper or at the very least the same price as their competitor.
