I don't know the full story but I remember them admitting certain numbers for current sales were just guessed! I wish there was a comprehensive 100% reliable database for this stuff as I'm very interested in it but for all its faults its the best place I've seen so far and covers a big number of games.
yeah that's exactly it, I knew they were guessing their numbers but if they had nothing to go on and made educated guesses... it's not like they're super far off all the time anyway right? But yeah that is pretty shot lol
And I agree, I'd love to have a database for sales like this, it could help answer a whole lot of questions for a whole lot of people.
First party refers to studios that are directly owned by a company. Naughty Dog is owned by Sony, for instance. Their titles are first party. Second party is when a company is technically independent, but have agreed to work exclusively with a console maker. For example, Insomniac at one point developed games only for PlayStation consoles, but they were never owned by Sony.
so then... is sunset overdrive a 2nd party exclusive since microsoft paid to have it exclusive? or is it still 100% third party?
That being said, I'm not 100% who owns the IP of LBP. If it's the same deal that they had with Insomniac, then Sony may still own it. I don't know.
i'm 99% sure Sony owns LBP. sackboy is kind of a playstation mascot.
I think what he meant was that it was original title made specifically for the PSP. Port refers to a specific situation where a game is brought from one system to another with as little altercation to the core game as possible.
yeah well... i'll get to that when I respond to his response to me...
Obviously. Most games don't get announced until there's been quite a bit of development. I wasn't implying that the game only started development shortly before this year's E3. You missed the point
No, I didn't miss your point but you may have missed mine which was while LBP was being developed behind the scenes, the development was for Ps4; that is my speculation.
You may not want to count it, but it is what it is
dude, come on. 2k is a great series of basketball games but they'd NEVER come out with a NBA2K 00-13 REMASTERED collection for Ps4/Xbone! You just can't compare sports game completely with the flow of other video games, it's different in some aspects
First party games are developed by first party studios and second party games are developed by independent studios. When Sony publishes a game, only those made by studios they own are 1st party. Everyone else is second. For example, Naughty Dog's games from this past gen were all first party, but Insomniac's Resistance and Ratchet were 2nd.
Ok, and was Mass Effect 2nd party to microsoft until ea purchased bioware?
That's probably exactly what they did as I alluded to. The PS3 is still relevant though so considering they have all that work laid out for the PS3, it wouldn't make sense to just cut it off. If this was set to be a 2015 and beyond title
then why would they be losing money on it if they did it that way?
and no, 360 and Ps3 should be losing relevance more and more, they shouldn't be getting any new endorsements of the sort. it should all be about new gen nowadays
I'll disagree but fair enough
glad this worked out peacefully
nah this wasn't the first time or thread you've pulled up old interviews from different games. The one you pulled this time didn't even mention the Cell. Like I said, he was very clear in how LBP wasn't possible for the 360 and if they were to do one, it would be a different, much like the PSP title, which wasn't a port.....
i'm not saying I haven't brought it up before, yes I've brought it up several times and that's because several times sony and their developers last generation, kept pushing the Ps3 as being way more powerful than the 360 when if at all, it was 4x as powerful at most. And I don't like when they say **** like that.
call that an obsession if you want, but... then you really don't wanna know what goes on with me
BINGO! Did you even play it? Do you know what a port is? Having the same name as a game doesn't make one a port. If one went by that logic, then you would think that the Tomb Raider remake from last year was a port of the PS1 original. The PSP game was COMPLETELY different from the PS3. It was not a port
you know while I was reading this I had a feeling you were gonna bring up tomb raider lol. But the thing is, everything from lara's appearance to the logo, besides the essence of what TR is, the reboot bears little to no resemblance to the original games. that's not what the PsP version of LBP was; same logo, same characters, same presentation I mean
but okay fine, you're right. LBP PsP is not a port of the Ps3 version, it is its own game.
Sony owns it. It was their IP, which they co-created with MM. The first LBP was second party but Sony purchased MM shortly after release, which is why they've been able to continue to do stuff with it with other developers even though MM has walked away from the series
MM should make LBP4, and make it 3D
