so.......still nothing from Sony about Update 2.0?? :(

ok, for those in the know, would this internal hdd be good to replace the PS4 hdd?

http://www.amazon.com/HGST-Travelstar-2-5-Inch-7200RPM-Mobile/dp/B0097LG9U8

it's 1tb. But, it's also SATA III with 6 gb/s and 7200 RPM.

with those last 2 features, it should be faster than than the default PS4 hdd, right?

It says you can use it to upgrade your PS4, but I just want to make sure it is indeed compatible, since it is SATA III with faster specs than the default drive. don't want to ruin my PS4 or anything.

also, what's the difference between the drive above and this one?

http://www.amazon.com/HGST-Travelst..._t2_B0097LG9U8_B00B4QESVQ/185-4472076-7822026

they seem to be the same specs. is one a better model?

the second one says 7k100, I suppose that could make some sort of difference

yeah.....but it's really hard to tell the difference.

anyways, I was just curious.....is it safe to put a 7200rpm drive in the PS4?

I've heard some people say the 7200 drives run a little hotter. so, I don't want my PS4 to overheat.

overall, I think the speed/performance of my PS4 is fine as is. I just want more storage space.

should I even risk going for a 7200 drive?

I can get this 1tb 5400rpm drive at my local Best Buy:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-mainstream-1tb-internal-serial-ata-hard-drive-for-laptops/9314126.p?id=1219011390341&skuId=9314126&st=categoryid$pcmcat270900050001&cp=1&lp=2

it's $75 so about the same price as the 7200rpm drive. but, would it be safe to use?

or, for the same price, should I just go for the $74 1tb 7200rpm drive?

Ah, that's interesting, there was always a thing about Ps3 in that it was slower than the 360, either because of less ram or the bigger superstition that was there which was that the actual blu ray drive in it was much slower.

we're talking hard drives though so I dunno if that would make the console slower or just more laggy overall.

I dunno man, perhaps if you want to be 100% sure this something you should phone sony for you know

maybe I'll ask on the official Sony forums. or see if I can chat with a customer rep.

I don't really need to upgrade right away, and maybe I should hold off a little longer because then the prices for these drives will come down further.

fortunately, it's super fast and efficient to reinstall games, so I can just delete the games I'm not playing much and only keep 2-3 active games installed at a time.

have you been downloading a lot of games lately and you're worried it'll fill up soon?

So Ive been using my DS4 on my PC and its cool that the trackpad works. You just use your finger on it and it takes the place of the mouse. In RE6, its used to control the camera and works quite well. I don't see any games actually having that functionality on the PS4 bc it would be redundant with the right analog stick but I almost found it more intuitive to use my right thumb to use the pad to aim around

One thing you can do with the driver is turn off the lightbar. Despite what Sony may have said or implied, that thing is 100% software and there is absolutely NO reason they cant allow users the option to disable it. Dimming it is BS when they can incorporate this into the firmware. I went from 80% to 30%, after about maybe 10 or so hours of play. Based on that, I figure it could probably be anywhere from 18-22 hours on a full charge to 0 if the light is off

If anyone else wants to get it, its called DS4windows and its great

i heard what you have to do is trick your PC into thinking it is a 360 controller

it's cool that the trackpad works too and yeah our own tom marvolo riddle debunked the light bar thing

You don't have to as the DS4 already works with on PCs. It just shows up as a generic gamepad. Emulating the 360 controller profile makes the most sense though as there is native support for that in most modern games. If you choose to not do that, you can manually select the key bindings but figuring out what "button 1" for example can be a bit confusing. The driver and program give you the most options as you can alter the sensitivity of the gyro, accelerometer and trackpad, turn off lightbar, how long till it goes idle, rumble strength and a whole lot of other stuff

and there's more where that came from too

honestly though, the only video that impresses me was the one with the snow. all the others to me look no better than last gen racing.

wait a sec... this game is listed on wikipedia with single player and online multiplayer. don't tell me there's no local multiplayer in this or.... UGH.

That looks a lot better than any last gen racing game to me.

Local multiplayer is a thing of the past.

no it ain't.

cod (the biggest gaming franchise) still has it, LBP still has it, Uc as pointed out to you still has it, PsABR still has it, man, I shouldn't even have to get into this.

and soapy, check out the videos in the link I posted and see if you think they are as good as that gif.

And those would be classified as exceptions. I mean its no longer a standard feature. Its more of a rare thing when its included rather than the other way around

I could've made that list way more exhaustive havok, but I got better things to do.

I don't think it was ever a standard. I don't think multiplayer at all was ever a standard actually. But to say that games that still do have them are rare, or exceptions is completely wrong.

Maybe it is not as prevalent as it once was but it is not as scarce as I think y'all are making it out to be.

actually no.......lol.

I hardly have anything on my PS4 at the moment.

but, the huge influx of games starts this week with Shadows of Mordor.

so, I'm trying to decide if I should just upgrade now while I don't have much stored on my PS4. or just wait till I actually need to do so.

Well it was a standard feature bc before last gen as nearly any game on the consoles that had multiplayer had it be local for obvious reasons. It was only with the advent of these online infrastructures that developers canned local MP in favor of online only modes

i don't think it was standard man some games had it and some didn't. it depended on the game. if you're saying before last gen you mean 2 generations ago, 2 of the biggest genres back then were gta and gow and most of the time gta was single player and so was gow
