Saw it tonight. I'm at about 6 out of 10 right now.

I mean I liked the Eddie/Venom parts, but honestly the movie doesn't justify the existence of Venom as a solo hero or character.

I think if they embraced the horror elements more and maybe made it an R-rating, they could've done something different than the run of the mill superhero film. The second act feels totally gutted.

The Venom symbiote's motivations and character development makes no sense.

The film introduces ideas and subplots and then unceremoniously tosses them aside or forgets about them.

In about 30 seconds, Venom decides to go from being a more malevolent creature to the symbiote with a heart of gold that wants to save the planet.

It's a 7 to me.
I'd recommend it to any Hardy and/or Venom fan.

It's true it is a bit outdated in structure and the Riot subplot does not work at all, but all in all it is a fine start to this Spider-man-less universe, fingers crossed.
I would prefer all characters on deck for the Mcu, but seeing how Sony wants to try this thing, I can appreciate a more light and cartoonish world.

The biggest draw back for most people I imagine would be the tone, but I loved it, it is not so much outdated as some say but more campy and ironic: if they fine tune it this could be the real alternative to the Mcu.

The biggest flaw to me was the final fight, too abrupt and messy.

I think most people who will give the movie a chance will like it for what it is: seriously flawed but also entertaining and funny, it definitely doesn't take itself seriously, like, at all. Hardy makes it work and flow.

For me even the turd line works in context, that's something. :cwink:

Is this completely predictable? Meaning hero gets power, not sure if he accepts power, then accepts power just in time for third act saving the world stuff? Also include scenes of villain experimenting with his own power and then gets leveled up for third act fight?

It is a solid 6.5/10 for me. The score from RT is too brutal against the movie, but on the other Hands there are still some valid Arguments. Here are some thaughts:
- Villain is very weak. Give him a better Motivation for his researches against Cancer. Maybe a sick daughter or he becomes Cancer himself. And how he get his symbiote was very poor, because it was nearly not shown.. Lets give him a speech to the Thing, that he Needs it and they could be a great Team, helping each other
- The balance between Slapstick and Horror wasnt well on some parts. But the Jumping vs. Elevator Scene was my gag of the whole movie.
- I have no clue, why Venom likes Eddie. Really. The only Thing in common is, they are both losers. Thats it? Give me more.
- Why likes Venom earth besides the plot wants it? A view up to the City and he is love with the earth? Huuh..
- The chemistry between Hardy and Williams was off. The love interest was very undeveloped too.

Saw it tonight and while I wouldn’t say it’s a good movie it is fun as hell and certainly never boring. Venom himself looks great, wasn’t to impressed with Riot but it gave Venom something to fight and Brock had his own reasons for besting they bad guy also.

Venom’s turn to good was very abrupt but I just figured having access to Brock’s and then Ann’s life experiences is what made Venom like Earth and want to save it. Thought the action was really well done and Hardy’s performance is definitely eye catchingly crazy. Some really funny parts too though the tone was all over the place at times. Venom’s lines that seemed silly in the trailers mostly made sense in context, even the turd one.

Took my Dad and Aunt with me and they enjoyed it even more than me, saying it’s one of the better CBMs recently. So this may be a success with the GA after all. 7/10.

Saw this morning in Italy during a special preview.

A film devoid of any original idea. A linear plot as much as a flat encephalogram. A couple of funny scenes, especially one at the end, two scenes after the credits. One that is worth seeing, even if I found it ridiculous for one reason in particular, the other is practically a promo.

Tom Hardy acting is exaggerating and Michelle Williams is not convinced of his dialogues (among other things really stupid).

I saw this last night - 4/10

They really should have played up the comedy and gone for something that was a cross between say The Mask and then something like Deadpool.

I'm glad they didn't go all nu-metal fan's wet-dream by making it R-rated and sticking loads of rock music in it to sell soundtracks but by not doing that and not going the weird route either it just sits awkwardly in the middle doing nothing at all.

I don't know why when promising directors are handed properties that are crying out to be taken to the extreme (see also Ghost Rider 2) that they're always restrained and make you question why they were hired in the first place. Thor: Ragnarok really should have been a wake-up call in trusting your creative instinct.

6/10.

It wastes some opportunities and it falls into the category of not being as good as it could have been.

But yeah...I was never bored or lost.

Probably the end was a bit weak.

Great performances, but Michelle Williams was wasted.

A spoiler tag might be nice.
There might be people who don't know what the Post Credit scene is.
Let them choose if they want to know that information before they see the film.

I thought Venom was...fine/okay. Definitely rushed and once Venom did finally show up I liked it a little more. I don't think it's terrible like others have said it was but it's certainly not good by any stretch.

The action could've been better too. Some decent stuff but nothing spectacular. Michelle Williams and others were pretty wasted.

Woody Harrelson's wig in that post credits was awful and as much as I'd like to see him chew up scenary in a possible sequel, I don't think I liked what they did with Cassidy there.

I went with a 5/10 but I could make a case for 4/10...

As a huge Spider-Man fan and Venom fan, I Had a lot of fun watching this.

Saw it in IMAX 3D the credits are still rolling. Woody Harrelson is a very capable actor so I trust he will do Carnage Justice. Hope Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios adopt Venom along with Deadpool into their MCU. It’s gonna be very hard to replace Tom Hardy and this incarnation of Venom.

This was the movie that The Incredible Hulk should have been.

Great action, laughs, and it had an unexpected bromance between Eddie and the “Parasite” XD

This had no business being as good as it was.

After the unholy atrocity that was Topher Grace’s Eddie Brock and whatever that sad excuse for Venom was in
Spider-Man 3, I am definitely bumping the score up to

9/10 for staying true to the source material and the spirit of the character of Venom and Eddie Brock

Glad you liked it
I am going to see Venom on Saturday.
As somebody who is a huge fan of The Incredible Hulk, I really hope that I enjoy Venom,(I expect to.).

Saw it today with friends and we all totally had a blast. Very fun movie. The first 15-20 minutes drag a little bit, but then the film totally comes alive. As a fan of the character, as well as classic Sam Raimi films like Evil Dead 2 and Darkman as well as An American Werewolf In London, The Mask, The Incredible Hulk, and 80's sci-fi thrillers like Lifeforce and They Live, this movie very much pleased me as far as what a solo Venom film could offer. Tom Hardy displays such effective physical comedy akin to Bruce Cambell and Liam Neeson in the aforementioned films. I do look forward to a possible extended cut. 8 for me.

P.S.
Woody Harrelson looked spot on as Cletus Kasady.

Watched it earlier today and i really liked it, it's a 6-7 for me, as everybody know by now it has its problems but its a lot of fun, Eddie and Venom stole the show.
This movie doesn't deserve the amount of hate is receiving.. i hope it does well at the box office 'cause i'd definitely like to see more of Eddie/Venom relationship.

You thought Thor Ragnarok was bad?

Agreed. There were pacing issues at the beginning as you said. If not for those I would have given it a 9.5 for being the best possible Venom solo movie. If it had Tom Holland as Spidey in it fighting Tom Hardy’s Venom (hmmm same initials lol)
That would be a dream come true. Solid 10/10 if the MCU decides to adopt this Tom Hardy Venom into the third Spider Man movie, Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage

Does anyone recall, does Anne say, "I love you, but I love myself more?"

Here's hoping a director's/extended cut can balance that pacing better.

Glad to hear the user reviews on here are more positive and encouraging! Can I ask how were venom’s VFX? Did the cgi look awesome or was it very cartoony? How were the action and fight scenes?
