Even if it is a horrible thread title I would like to try to get this off of the ground! I watch a LOT of TV but its always the same old stuff! I would like to get into some new things but don't really know whats good, and I'm sure I'm not the only one in the same boat! So I would like to list a few TV shows as well as ask for other people to post some to watch as well!!!

1. Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared.

These are listed together because they star some of the same people, were made by Judd Apatow, and have an all too similar plot together. The shows have a lot of stars in them and are really funny. I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Judd Apatow.

2. Big Bang Theory

Ah, A comedy about 4 friends who are complete "nerds" and a few hot girls. This show I picked up one day and decided on a whim to watch a few episodes, I can tell you right now I didn't think it would be as funny as it was, I was expecting to hate it but instead breezed through all of the seasons at the time in 4 days and from then on kept up with the show til the season finale of season 4.

3. How I met Your Mother.

Again, another show I didn't expect to love right off of the bat. Sometimes they don't seem to get the characters the same, their personalities tend to change but that doesn't make them any less likable and able to relate to.

I really dislike Big Bang theory, but to each their own.

My top three favorties and shows i'll relentlessly throw at people are

1 - Lost

2 - BSG

and 3 - Well...dexter was my top third but I think Game of Thrones is dethroning it to 4th place pretty soon. Either way Dexter and game of thrones.

All four are solid dramas check em out if you havent already.

I actually couldn't get into Lost or BSG. My dad loves BSG but I really just...don't see the appeal. Dexter seemed interesting but I never really have given it a shot and I don't like game of thrones, lol.

But next chance I get I'll check out dexter.

If you're a fan of crime shows, but are burned out on boring police procedurals, watch The Wire.

If you enjoy shows like Breaking Bad and Dexter, try watching Profit. Early '90s program with Adrian Pasdar as the corporate cutthroat, Jim Profit.

Want a Sci-Fi program that doesn't take itself too seriously? Watch Farscape

I could go on and on, I've watched a pretty obscene amount of television in the past few years.

The main reason I've started this topic is to jump into some new tv shows, not new as in stuff in the past 2 years, i mean new as in new to me. Lol, I really can't get into a lot of the stuff on tv now, I've been watching things like the early seasons of scrubs, arrested development, undeclared, freaks and geeks...older tv shows, you know?

Battlestar Galactica, Arrested Development, Parks and Rec, and Community. Those get the Soapy Seal of Approval, the highest honor anything can receive.

Clone High.

Animated show from the creator of Scrubs about a bunch of teenage clones of historical figures as they make their way through high school. It only lasted one season. But I thought it was great. I love it.

The socially awkward Abe Lincoln
Party animal Ghandi
Emo Joan of Arc
Popular girl Cleopatra
High school jock JFK

Plus tons of other cameos, such as Jesus Cristo, the hispanic clone of Jesus Christ who nails his hand to a piece of wood with a nail gun...

I love the show, mad that it only had one season.

Mad Men
Breaking Bad
Fringe
Dexter
Parks and Recreation
Community
Game of Thrones
LOST

Archer - other than Futurama this is the funniest show currently being made.

I'm looking forward to the new futurama series. What makes some of these shows great?

I would also recommend The Office seasons 1-4. Primarily focus on seasons 2 and 3.

Venture Bros. That's the only recommendation you need.

Comedy:

How I met your mother
QI (UK)
Shameless (UK)
Family Guy
American Dad
South Park

Intelligent:

White Collar
Dexter
The Mentalist
Castle
Bones

Fantasy:

Misfits (UK)
True Blood
Supernatural
The Vampire Diaries

Cancelled/Finished shows:

Alias, Firefly, Dark Angel, Dead Like Me, Buffy + Angel, Lois and Clark, Roswell, Dollhouse, Traveler, The Cape, Legend of the Seeker, Lost, Heroes, Smallville, Veronica Mars, Wonderfalls, Tru Calling, The X-Files, V, Mutant X, Forever Knight, Trigun, Jake 2.0, The Dead Zone, 3rd Rock from the sun, Red Dwarf, Friends, Sliders, Will and Grace, Sabrina the teenage witch, Scrubs, Charmed, Student Bodies, The Lost Room, Xena Warrior Princess, Hercules

Man... I watch too much tv...

Archer is great due to it's different humour from other animated shows, it doesn't resort to low brow jokes but uses often fairly dark, intelligent humour which I love but some might not.

I have never been a television fan. In fact, I still don't really watch TV at all. The last series I made sure to watch every time it was on was Seinfeld. Occasionally I will watch Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development. My all time favourite TV show is The Muppet Show, though.

I'll second Kii's recommendation of The Wire. Give it three episodes and you'll be hooked.

One show that I think is so overlooked it's criminal that I have to recommend is The Larry Sanders show. It's a show about a talk show with Garry Shandling who plays the lead, an insecure, a-hole talk show host. If you enjoy subtle humor you should love it. Airs very late on IFC, not sure if it's online.

I absolutely loved that show. Remember 3-South? Right around the same time as Clone High. And lasted just as long. It's a shame.

But back on topic for this thread...

Gotta check out It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, if you haven't already. Reruns are on Comedy Central on Mondays.

Also, Children's Hospital. Ridiculously funny.

Twin Peaks. That's a good show. And it's on Netflix.

3 South and Downtown

2 Great cancelled Mtv show that should have lasted longer.Downtown is from the creator of Mega XLR.It has a kind of Daria in NYC type fill.with some really Surreal cutaways.
While 3 south is about college freshmen who are pretty much idiots ( as is most of the college) Great show.

Sym-Bionic Titan
I would call this Genndy's best work that ended too soon. The show is probably one of the best action cartoons I've ever seen.

You could probably find these online

My favorites are Arrested Development, BSG, Deadwood & Veronica Mars. All of those, especially the latter 3, MUST be watched from the beginning to be enjoyed. Speaking of which, I also just started watching Damages from the beginning for the first time, and like those it's heavily serialized but extremely addictive.

Other dramas that I love: Mad Men, The Wire, Rome, Dexter, The West Wing

Other comedies/light-hearted fun shows: The Office (both US and UK versions), Extras, Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls, 30 Rock, Weeds, Chuck

Other sci-fi/fantasy shows I love: Firefly, Alias, Buffy/Angel, Dr. Who, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and yes, even Lost, as frustrating/annoying I found it to be at times.

How does one describe The Prisoner exactly? It's generally considered to be in the spy genre, but this is no James Bond. Oh, no, James Bond would break and shatter if he were in McGoohan's shoes. Really, this is almost an anti-spy show. It's not about someone trying to infiltrate, it's about someone desperately trying to get out of a strange place intent on breaking will and choice. It's a fairly old show, coming out in 68-69, but it stands up remarkably well all things considered. Some of the effects and sets are obviously dated, but the acting and writing are as good as anything that comes out nowadays. Not to mention, it has one of the coolest openings ever:

All the jazz and hip of the '60s/'70s spy-era set amongst one of the oldest and greatest themes of mankind, control vs free will. One warning, though, it's not exactly a show that's built on answers, it's all about the journey. You may even get mad at the ambiguity of the ending (as a lot of British people did, basically running McGoohan out of the country :p). A fantastic show that any fan of sci-fi, spy shows or, hell, just TV in general should try.

Six Feet Under, watching it for the second time now, I can easily say that this is one of the best shows to be put on the air. Amazing, amazing show. Can not recommend it enough.
