The Official Recommend an Awesome Movie Thread

Talhotblond

It's a fascinating documentary about an internet love triangle that turns deadly. It's on Netflix right now.

If you like sci-fi movies and romantic pieces, I definitely recommend Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. It's sort of a hybridization of both genres.

Fritz Lang's M.

It's like the best movie David Fincher never made because it was made decades before he was even born. The first truly haunting serial killer movie, imo. Even if you tend to find yourself bored with films of this era (it was made in 1931), I think this one might still command your attention. It was Lang's first "sound film," and weirdly enough, his inexperience with this new tool actually enhanced the effect, because of the unconventional way he used it.

Sounds intriguing. You've sold me on it.

THE ASSIGNMENT with Donald Sutherland, Ben Kingsley and Aidan Quinn. Awesome little action/spy thriller.

Sneakers is a pretty awesome movie that I've seen (again) recently.

My Cousin Vinny. It is oddly enough probably one of the most accurate courtroom dramas, at least in terms of actual law and procedure.

For all things indie, underrated, or that went under the radar here's what I recommend:

Rubber
Ink
The Kings of Summer
I Saw The Devil
+1
The Grey
Europa Report
Goon
Stoker
Maniac
The FP
The Fall
Robot and Frank
Arbitrage
Trollhunter
Killer Joe
The Pact
Safety Not Guaranteed
Senna
The Act of Killing
Detachment
Tucker & Dale vs Evil

If you're looking for an awesome kung fu flick I'd recommend Ip Man. It's totally awesome so it belongs as a recommend in this thread. If you have Netflix, it is available there.

:yay:

Road to Eldorado
That animated movie from DreamWorks
ETM, it's all about dat movie starring Sean Connery! :cwink:
Kevin Costner is the main actor
Malone is a supporting character, [blackout]he dies[/blackout]

Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.
I regret sitting through Drive (2011)
Not to be confused with the 90s movie with the same name starring that guy who played Jimmy Lee in Double Dragon movie

If you want to just shut your brain off and have some fun then watch any Michael Bay or Zack Snyder film, if you want to be entertained by something where you don't need to shut your brain off, then watch a Nolan film or one of Steven Spielberg's blockbusters, if you want something that makes you think then try a David Fincher or Kubrick film.

If you don't mind trully old films, like, with almost a hundred years old, then i allways recommend Metropolis

One awesome movie I re-watched recently: Zodiac. I still believe this to be David Fincher's masterpiece. And I can never hear Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man" without being creeped out now.

The Thing has already been mentioned but if you like horror movies then you should watch the entire Apocalypse Trilogy by John Carpenter consisting of The Thing, Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness. They are some of the best horror movies I have ever seen.

Also, Jacobs Ladder is amazing and a total mind screw.

If you don't mind subtitles here are some underappreciated foreign films.

Time and Tide directed by Tsui Hark

Fallen Angels directed by Wong Kar-Wai

District 13 also called B13 and currently has an American remake called Brick Mansions with the original star and Paul Walker.

Mary and Max is a stop motion film for adults and Max is brilliantly voiced by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Also I recommend We Need to Talk about Kevin. It's very disturbing but tells you the story from a mother's perspective after her son kills classmates.
