Comics The Official ROGUE Discussion Thread

It's still bull****.

There should have been a resolution by now. It's gone on for years. It's time for them to find another way to "humanize" her character.

There are ways around making Rogue "too strong". The technology could limit the powers she can exhibit, it could regulate her power levels, it could be faulty and only work on certain days.

There's plently a half-good writer could do with Rogue, even with her powers under control.

None of them want to make the effort.

CanCan...the entire reason you ahte Rogue...is because a bad writer got ahold of her and massacred her character? Seriously? THIS IS YOUR WHOLE BASIS OF HATRED?

You just lost so many points in my book.

You insult me with such accusations. My hatred of Rogue has many tributaries.

1: She's a spoiled brat. Surrounded by people who have loved her for her entire life, she goes on and on about how alone she is. Bull****. She's like one of those emo teens; completly self-absorbed and pretentious.

2: She gets all these people fawning over how bad she has it and bemoans her own fate inceasently, but a solution to the whole mess is completely within her reach. Hell, some times it seems like she can't walk down the street without coming across someone/thing that takes away her powers.

3: She gets away with murder and no one calls her on her bull****. I have no problem with flawed characters, but when no one calls these characters on their crap, I start to get miffed. No one cared when Rogue tried to kill Gambit in Antarctica, no one cared that she had denied him eternal happiness, no one cared that she was cuddling with Pulse while Gambit was running around the country-side, bat-**** crazy from the brain-washing. And in her recent on-going, I heard she absorbed the memories of some girl simply because she was jealous of the girl's happy childhood. If I saw someone around me acting like she does, they'd get a boot to the ass and a chewing out.

I could go on, but then we'd be here all night.

BTW, are the forums REALLY SLOW for anyone else?

For someone who hates her so much, you sure manage dwell in her thread as much as a fan would, LOL

I hang out here for a similar reason Darth hangs out in the Storm thread: to criticize the character.

My biggest gripe with the character, actually.

Rogue's way too much of a part-time obnoxious brat to be referred to as a full-fledged Mary Sue, BUT... the way people around her react to her tantrums and how she often comes off as either the righteous one or the victim? Totally Mary-f****n-Sue-ish. Just... DAMN. :csad:

But then again, to be fair, it seems most heroines get away with about anything waaaayyyyy easier than their male counterparts. :wow:

*shrugs*

NOT just you. Still slow. Oh well.

You realize she is made of paper and ink right? Chill out

CanCan, don't be rude. These characters, as much as we love them, really are just paper and ink. I think it's kinda pathetic to hang out in a character's discussion thread just to play devil's advocate. You won't see me do that in the Emma Frost or the Cyclops discussion threads. I hang out in the threads for my favorite characters and the series I read.

Cant we just love Rogue for the amazing strong character she currently is and not dwell on hating on her for the whiny brat she was?

Yeah, but what we're saying is that her being a part-time whiny brat pretty much defines her. :woot:

Good thing they're partly getting rid of it/toning it down, but it's being done way too fast to feel even remotely close to natural.

I blame all that on bad writers, CanCan.

I've read plenty of stories where Rogue did NOT act like a spoiled brat. Hell, take the beginning of X-treme, before it went to ****. That was the Rogue I love.

...and yes, you constantly criticizing a character over and over again does become tiresome. After all, even I've conceded points about Gambit and Cyclops, yet you keep beating the same horse long after it's dead.

Well, she still should be. Open your heart to Rogue again.:cwink:

It wasn't always that way. She used to be my second favorite X-man.

Really? Figures, I suppose.

Gambit and Rogue have always been on the lower end of my Top 10 and haven't moved much. *shrugs*

Have them get over the teen angst thingy going on and I'll reconsider. :woot:

Rogue IS past her teen angst. She hasnt been written like that since Carey took over

Rogue *IS* teen angst. Thats the whole point of her power; to whine about how she can never touch people without harming them. She's angst incarnate.

I meant as in a 'make it believable and not look like an author's arbitrary decision' capacity.

That, and I'm not quite sure the next year will prove you right. I foresee plenty of whining/moping around.

except she hasnt been whining about her powers in about a year, hence no more teen angst

Only because Carey is making a determined effort not to. For the last 15 years it's been almost solid angst with bouts of it for the 10 years prior to that. And just you wait; the second Carey leaves, Rogue is going to revert back to an angst-fest and drag Gambit into it as well.

The point we're making is that it was completely sudden and out of the blue. Arguably OOC and rather arbitrarily at that.

It basically played out the same as, let's say, the hypothetical scenario of Wolvie hooking up with a girl and giving up smoking and drinking in the span of a few months. :woot:

@Canemacar: Buddy, it's official, we have a mind-link, lol. :woot:

Edit: Too late, but what the hell.
