A basic summary of the 'why' of my decision:
I've been a massive Whedon fan since I was a teenager, and I completely enjoyed The Avengers. It had me bouncing up and down in my seat and had a little emotional crying moment at the end when the blonde was saying how she wanted to thank CA
I thought the characters all had decent screen time and portrayals (especially Bruce), and it did a great job of appealing to a wide audience of all kinds of age groups and genre preferences (kids, comedy, action etc).
But I've not gone back for more than 1 repeat viewing. And I'm not sure if that's because I'm just not as into the characters as I am with other superheroes, or there just isn't enough to chew on.
The Amazing Spiderman I have enjoyed about 6 times now. Love Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, Spidey's quipping, the mechanical webshooters, Peter's more obvious scientific mind etc etc. But it fell flat in a lot of areas (weak villain plot, bit too long at the beginning for me, though Ben's death was lame etc).
TDKR just really hit the spot for me. Have seen it so many times I've lost count. Saw it 4 times in the cinema in one week, which is more times than I've ever seen any movie in the cinema (it's too damn expensive!). I cryed most of the way through the movie JUST because it was awesome
It took all the things I preferred about BB to TDK (focus on Bruce, more 'comic booky' elements, the bat cave etc) and placed them in a story with a bigger scope and heavier level of threat. Not to mention some awesome new characters that were successfully written well enough for me to give a damn Yes, the ending was a bit iffy... But that doesn't change how enjoyable the bulk of the film is
So yeah, TDKR gets my vote
