Not sure if this thread belongs in here or in the Celebrities section, but in here i want to talk about both the man himself and the films he's involved with, even if only as a Producer.

Steven Spielberg is one of the most influential Directors of the industry, most of the major directors today like J.J. Abrams and Michael Bay are highly influenced by him. Under his belt he has multiple classics.

Right now, he doesn't seem to be planning a new film, However he's Producing three upcoming movies:

-Transformers: Age of Extinction
-The Hundred-Foot Journey
-Jurassic World

With the Men in Black franchise, if continued, probably having him produce the 4th film.

He has also expanded his influence upon Television, Producing Falling Skies and Under the Dome.

He's not directing any of the movies you listed.

Did you mean PRODUCING?

Man. I can't choose.

Seriously, Speilberg is like a living Beatle. He's like Paul or Ringo. Kinda surreal.

I don't know if kids today understand how influential he is, along with John Williams.

E.T. is his best film. E.T. is also John Williams best score.

Jaws and Schindler's List are probably his most artfully directed films.

I loved The Adventures of Tintin from him and liked War Horse. I like Lincoln but that movie was too actorly/theatrical for my taste.

He is probably the best director of action after John Ford and Akira Kurosawa.

Out of the ones I've seen, jaws is my favorite (my favorite movie of all time, actually). But Raiders, E.T, and Jurassic Park are all classics, thought most of his movies are. While he only ghost directed poltergeist, it's still one my favorite horror movies, and one of the best ghost stories ever put to film IMO.

I'd say Jaws.

It's my ultimate favorite movie right next to The Thing. I even have a Jaws sleeve on my arm.

For some odd reason, as a kid, I missed out on Close Encounters. I saw it a few years ago and I loved it, but because I strangely skipped out on it, there's no nostalgic factor for me. Great movie though.

I've gone with Jaws but it could've been any number of films.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T, Jurassic Park etc. Empire of the Sun I thought was a great film not many folks list that as one of his best works.

His 2000s movies have not been as good. War of the Worlds, Crystal Skull, Minority Report are merely ok to good, not great.

Saving Private Ryan is my personal favorite of his, but man does he have so many amazing films under his belt.

Voted for Raiders. But take your pick out of that, Jurassic Park, and Jaws. All three of those are irreplaceable masterpieces to me.

His Producing history is just as interesting in my opinion. He has Produced such classics as The Goonies and the Back to the Future trilogy.

Right now he's still making a load of money with Transformers, next film is coming out and is sure to make a billion. However, it seems like his time as a Blockbuster film Director may be coming to an end, though he has certainly inspired some "Successor" in the likes of:

-J.J.Abrams
-Michael Bay
-Christopher Nolan
-M.Night Shyamalan (With Signs's release he was being hailed as the next Steven Spielberg by some magazines)

Remind me if i'm missing any other name when it comes to mainstream Blockbuster Directors who were clearly inspired by Spielberg.

Steven Soderbergh made Raiders black & white and without sound to study staging.

When people bother to remember it at all, they tend to complain that AI: Artificial Intelligence was hamstrung by Spielberg's penchant for schmaltzy happy endings. This has long baffled me as the ending of that movie is quite depressing. This video pretty much nails my feelings on the matter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ejnt_qUGq8

Not that it's flawless but I find AI: Artificial Intelligence to be a damn fantastic film.

It is nuts to me how short of a time frame there was between the release of AI, Minority Report and Catch Me If You can.

I grew up watching Spielberg's films starting with Jaws, and first theatrical experience of Spielberg film was in '77 with Close Encounter of the Third Kind. Eventually he became the IT person in Hollywood in the 1980s like how Nolan is nowadays but was criminally robbed of highest accolades - Oscar for best director simply because the Hollywood establishment at that time viewed him as mostly as a commercial director who lacks the skills of a true artist . His Oscar for Schindler's List was a little too late. All of his best works were done in the 1970s and early 1980s with some occasional flashes of brilliance in the 1990s & 2000s.

My best to worst list, the worst certainly wasn't a dud!

Close Encounter of the Third Kind
Jaws
E.T.
Munich
Schindler's List
Saving Private Ryan
Jurassic Park
Raider of the Lost Ark
The Color Purple
Duel
Empire of the Sun
Amistad
Minority Report
War of the Worlds
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Catch Me If You Can
The Terminal
