The Official Superman Score & Soundtrack Thread

I just found out about Zimmer denying he's scoring the Superman reboot.
Which I know is old news, but still I feel like "futterwacken".

Seriously though it's still too early for a composer to be announced. Bates isn't out of the woods yet either. Look how long it's taking to announce the composers to the Thor, Green Lantern ,and Captain America movies. Superman might announce it's composer next year or 2012 (assuming this movie still gets made).

At least I won't have to worry about a Superman movie sounding like a Michael Bay/Bruckheimer movie like the recent Batman movies do. Superman still has a shot at sounding like a score that's appropriate for Superman and not like Bay/Bruckheimer movies.

Any A list composer is ok with me & who ever they are the should put the own stamp on them, however I 100% believe that the John Williams central theme is so iconic that it sould be incorperated into all big screen Superman ventures. There has now been 1/2 a dozen Bonds & as many new directions, but without the theme it doesn't feel like a Bond film. And if you don't believe me then watch 'Never say Never Again. I've seen people say here that the 1 thing that RETURNS got right was the theme, While I think that is a little harsh to me the John Williams theme is as now as part of Supes as the S shield & the red cape & when ever I watch lois & Clark, Smallville, Superboy or any of the Animated stuff, etc... the scores always come across as weak, it's the main thing that seems missing.

...good luck trying to top that. :o

Nobody needs to top that. :o

SR got the theme right because it was a sequel to Donner movies. And had Casino Royale had a different theme for the ending wouldn't have ruined anything about that movie.

The williams theme doesn't fit with post-crisis superman IMO. My favorite part of his score is the krypton theme though, or at least the first 1:30 seconds of it.

It was just an idea. If I want the Williams theme I'll watch STM, and fastforward past the 70's pimp and Superman turning back time. I don't need to hear it on the big screen again.

So if the new movie has the theme you'll stay home, even if it looks good? If they do use it again, might I recommend associating it with the film it'd currently be accompanying?

Already answered.

So should I assume we agree? What isn't broken doesn't need to be fixed? :woot:

And I could just as easily point to the numbers of the first Star Wars, The Matrix, ET, and Inception to show people love new films. And as far as tv shows, almost none of the remakes are successful. Lost, 24, Glee, True Blood, all successful new shows.

Any coincidence that John Williams was involved in two of the movies you mentioned? And just to be specific, I was talking about TV shows that are being turned into movies. I agree that remakes of TV shows that were TV shows haven't worked (and when you've got **** like The Bionic Woman, there's a reason why).

Like I said, if Snyder only includes the Williams' march for the last 20 seconds of the film like Martin Campbell did with Casino Royale, that would be great.

I completely forget the point we were arguing on. So you wouldn't mind if the Williams' theme was in there, just like I wouldn't mind if there was a completely new score in between the credits and end credits?

You heard it hear folks! If Warners does not include the Williams theme in this film they will lose millions......NO, BILLIONS!!!

WAKA WAKA WAKA! :oldrazz:

Don't worry its gonna get made

Don't know what forces conspired to make me do this but I was recently listening to the Tron score while reading Superman Earth One...it was EPIC! Made me think that Superman, the Man of Tomorrow, needs a Score of Tomorrow.

An amazing score. Like most modern scores tho it owes alot to Zimmer.

I know I'm in the minority....but I really don't get the love for the tron score.

EDIT: **** you, lag

How about something like this...

On one hand a new theme that carries the franchise into the future. On the other, an end credits song that pays homage to the past. Michael Giacchino must be in on this too.
