The Official Superman Thread - Part 3

Yeah, apparently the new DC is too cool and edgy for super pets.

It's just upset me

Animals in pain or dying always does either in real life or in fiction. And knowing that its Krypto the brave silly superdog who's toy I've still got on my bed just makes it even more upsetting. Maybe its silly but Krypto being killed off feels like losing a pet to me

I'mma read the Krypto issue of Superman to make myself feel better

In fact I have decided that Krypto is still alive :)

He and Streaky have decided to have a nice vacation with the Pet Avengers and Hoppy and they are off having adventures and surfing

And when they feel like it they shall come home and Krypto will be in the Superman comic books again :)

Krypto is still alive and well and doing his thing on good old Earth-One.

As far as I'm concerned, Krypto never existed in the DCnU. That goat thing isn't Krypto.

I don't know if it's the blanket or the perspective, or both, but baby Kal looks kinda fat. Not like 'large baby' fat, like plump.

not liking the Krypto deal.

first they turn him into a horned/hoofed goat like creature and then they kill him off. I guess they really want this Superman to be "alone" in the world. it's not enough that BOTH of his parents have to be dead, now his pet too.

:cmad:

Was a little bit disappointed by Action Comics #1 but I loved #2. But the fact that Krypto is dead sucks. I hope he doesn't return as an undead zombie or something... You never know.

That would be great. And then Superman could cry while he punts him to Jupiter. :)

Although I usually disagree with Kurosawa, I admit that realism, used in this particular way, is really, really stupid.

As far as realism goes with Superman, at most Clark should be an alien entity that looks exactly like a human, and that sampled DNA from the Kents when they picked him up from the rocket, so that he grew up to physically look like what an actual son would look like, mixed with Kryptonian DNA. Maybe a bit of stuff about Earth's gravity as the reason for his strength (though in pretty much every version of his origin Jor-El says pretty much that right before he launches Kal into space, or something of the like). It's not like the X-Men where their powers make no goddamn sense from being genetically based. Supes is from outer space.

I couldn't care less about how baby Kal is drawn, I'm just relieved that Krypton still blows up. It's looking less and less likely that this reboot has anything to do with the lawsuit. I mean, the basic orgin and status quo is still there, and a redesigned suit isn't enough to avoid copyright infringement. I've seen people get sued over extremely vague similarities.

My fat baby loves to eat.

Big ole buddah belly, and breast down to her feet.

My fat baby loves to EAAAAATTTT

My big ole fat ass baby loves to eat.

Deal Of The Century: The Check That DC Comics Used To Buy Superman

It has long been part of the record of comic book history that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster sold the rights for Superman to Detective Comics, Inc (the company which was to become DC Comics, of course) for $130.

Here is the March 1, 1938 check that DC Comics publisher and accountant Jack Liebowitz issued to Siegel and Shuster to complete that transaction:

Note the Superman line item next to the amount $130.

Also note the total $412, with other line items including “D.C”, ”Adv”, and “Fun”. This would probably correspond to payments for work in Detective Comics, New Adventure Comics, and More Fun Comics, where Siegel and Shuster had strips such as Doctor Occult, Federal Men, and Slam Bradley published just prior to the debut of Superman.

Adding to this already rather stellar bit of comic book history, the back includes not only the endorsements of both men (spelled both incorrectly and correctly to account for Liebowitz’s misspelling of both names on the front), but also an April 6, 1939 stamp for the U.S. District Court of New York, where it was presumably used to prove DC’s ownership of the character in Detective Comics, Inc. v. Bruns Publications, Inc.

Ha! So it began...

So they got the actual check they wrote to them for Superman.....why the hell is this a legal battle?

wow! thats a pretty awesome piece of comic book history! totally wild that it still exists.

I'm pretty sure you literally have the emotional maturity level of a small child.

Well now just reading the pitch for the Superman Comic that Marvel was close to putting out I now see why Man of Steel turned out the way it did. Byrne had that idea for Superman since the late 70's apparently.

Because grand and great grandchildren who didn't even know who there Grandparents were as people don't want to work essentially and they say that DC ripped off Siegel and Schuester by essentially under paying for te character, when DC in all actuallity had no idea it would be this popular.

I don't even see how it got this far. They got the Check. Should be a done deal.

But I don't know copyright law. Seems ******ed to me that this even saw a court room in the first place.

The newest issue has the same problems I think the 1st issue did, too wordy! I hope this is fixed but I feel it won't be til perez is off the book. I'm curious what is attacking Superman but i'm not certain I care at the same time seeing as this story hasn't really shown me where its going yet. I know its only two issues but a hint would have been nice unless this is going to be a new villain we have never seen and yeah that makes sense i guess but its slightly boring. I don't need action in every panel, the action we got in this was awesome, but i do need more meat on my stories bones.
