Don't you mean, what *most* Smallville fans think?
;)
So we're mutually exclusive now are we? :)
Didn't know that by being a Smallville fan I wasn't a Superman fan, or vice versa.

My bad, but some of you should really put out a memo, and let us know.

That sig I was referring to said TW would be Supes no matter what (hence my reply) and something about the *other* guy.....;)

Besides, you should give Sage's new sig a lookover....You just KNEW It was coming :)

WWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Sorry, just had to say something.

I just noticed this Durance quote from The Calgary Sun from a few weeks back. I don't know why I never picked up on this before:

One role that is out of Durance’s reach is, ironically, Lois Lane. Although Warners Bros. is about to shoot a new Superman film, directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men), it will have a different actress as Lois.

“They’ve kept (Smallville and the film) separate.

“What they’ve said to Tom is that they wanted to keep the two franchises as they are, apart from each other.”

Notice that she mentions they (the studio) TOLD Tom they wanted the franchises seperate. Doesn't that imply (and therfore prove) it was ultimately the WB studio's decision to not go with Welling? That should be proof that Welling indeed wanted the role, but was snubbed by either Singer or features.

Why else would the movie studio need to tell TW anything, unless he was somehow involved with the film in the first place?

All that proves is that the studio did NOT wanted Welling.

Obviously there would have been discusion with the Smallville people as it will be a difficult balence to maintain.

They also could have addressed him to simply inform him as it has also been very clearly stated several times in far more articles then this that Welling simply is not that interested in playing Superman on the big screen. I believe that when it comes straight from the horses mouth it can be taken as pretty solid proof.

As Cretien would say; "when you have a proof it's a proof, if it's a good proof then it's proof, a proof is a proof is a proof, so it's proof" :D

Well, ya have to remember that "the studio" is made up of MANY different opinions. When it comes to Superman, Warners has a hard time agreeing on anything. What one dept wants may not be what another dept wants. There's a reason it's taken this long to get the film made. And uh... not to be pessimistic or anything (who, me? LOL), but they haven't started lensing yet. So who knows what monkey wrenches are yet to be lobbed in Singer's direction?

That should be proof that Welling indeed wanted the role, but was snubbed by either Singer or features.
I don't think Singer snubbed Welling. Alan Horn's contract obligations not withstanding, Singer offered Welling the role, after all. At this point, whether Welling "wanted" it or not is moot. He did sign *something*, and I can't imagine Welling - of all people - would agree to do it if he didn't want to. So the desire is easily inferred.

Why else would the movie studio need to tell TW anything, unless he was somehow involved with the film in the first place?
[in best Spock voice Pat can muster]
Logical. ;)

-The fact that some key people at Warners wanted Welling for the role for a Very. Long. Time, isn't a mystery.
-The fact that Singer came on board with the knowledge that he'd have to offer Welling first rights of refusal, isn't a mystery.
-The fact that Singer was okay with Welling because, even though he wasn't an unknown, at least he's known for playing Clark Kent, isn't a mystery.
-The fact that Welling agreed to do it and signed *something* to that end, isn't a mystery.

No. What IS a mystery is what happened between "Okay, I'll do it" and "Brandon Routh is Superman."

And uh... there is no FREAKIN' WAY it was something as simple as not wanting to do a screen test.

Whoops... I used the htuoR word here. Hope I don't get a demerit for stirring the pot. ;)

Pat is right. And I hope the "he didn't want it" crap will finally end. Somehow I don't think so.

Neither can I. I *can*, however, imagine him agreeing to do it because he didn't really care either way; sadly nobody else seems to agree with me on that. I'm sure I'll survive.

Well... probably not. But it could be something as simple (and unexpected) as WB doing a 180 and deciding they don't want *anyone* from Smallville after all. It would cause me to question their intelligence, but then I do that anyway.

This timeline of yours is taking a while, by the way. :p

No, I can see that as well. There's nothing wrong with that in my mind either. But some fans feel an actor isn't worthy for a part unless he begs for it. I've never understood the mentality there?? [shrugs]

Again, I'm in agreement with ya, James. "Simple" and "idiotic" are mutually inclusive terms in this case, I guess. ;)

Oh stop! LOL!! Seriously, I have so little time when I get home after work (which is where I am now - at work) that on-line activities usually get pushed to the back burner, especially this time of the year. I do hope I get this done before my vacation though. I'm Florida bound in about three weeks, and I'll be thinking of everybody here as I squish the sand between my toes and suck back the Pina Coladas. :D

Why would the studio need to inform Tom Welling that he is not interested?

Anonymous Suit at WB: Mr. Welling.

Tom Welling: Yes? What brings you all the way up to Vancouver?

Anonymous Suit: We've come to inform you [waves hand, simulating Jedi Mind Trick] that you aren't interested in playing Superman. This isn't the role you're looking for.

Welling: I am not interested in playing Superman. This isn't the role I'm looking for.

Suit: Move along.

Tom: Moving along.

This is why I always like to say he was "willing" to do it, rather than taking a stance on either side by saying he did or didn't want it... the arguments almost always revolve around the absolutes, and I don't like absolutes very much.

And you never will understand the mentality there, because you're not insane. :p

Indeed they are. Nothing about this is simple really, of course. Poor Tom, I think he was really looking forward to showing his underwear and wearing a red cape again. He never does that on Smallvi - oh wait...

And you're having a holiday again? No fair.

Silver linings are great when you can find 'em.

But I do think there's some truth to his looking forward to... well... whatever it was that he kept yappin' about to fans at the TCA's. :(

And you're having a holiday again?
Yeah!! And it can't come soon enough!!

A lot of Welling bashers arguments for Routh come down to him not wanting the role... He was willing to do it at one point, he signed, but like Pat said: what happened between that and Routh getting is hard to speculate on...

:::triplet is all up for more underwear only scenes for Tom:::

Yeah, it's nice having Thanksgiving so close to Christmas. The Canadians have their Thanksgiving holiday in October, too bad for them. ;)

I'm looking forward to having a couple weeks off myself in a couple of weeks...

Perhaps I should have said vacation rather than holiday, because I wasn't meaning Thanksgiving. Pat's going away on a break again, and she only had one a couple (or three) months ago! Not jealous...

Oh, right. I forgot to translate English to American... ;)

I'm not jealous either.... Not jealous at all.... :(

I get a lousy three weeks a year and no sick time, with kids and the flu and stuff like that, three weeks can disappear quick.

Hee! It's just how my sked fell this year. What can I say? I might not get another vacation till... oh I dunno, next summer sometime? ;)

I'm looking forward to getting away, ahuh. Gonna spend some time with my bud at Univ, going deep sea fishing, maybe hit Cape Canaveral (space junkie here, doncha know?), and the rest of my time will be divvied up between palmy beaches, pool side bars, and hot Jacuzzis. What a country; I'm never going back. :p

I've got a quickie girls cruise scheduled for February...I'm counting down the days already. Bring on the foofy drinks!

Universal? I was there last spring and had an awesome time. The Spiderman 3D (or maybe it's 4D) ride was incredible! Seriously.. you must try it several times.

Ah, somebody who knows me well. ;)

Universal?
Yes, my bud works there. Been there for like 20 years, in fact. Gosh, does she ever have some great stories to tell. She's met just about EVERYBODY. I'll have to ask if she's ever met anybody from SV. I'd bet dollars to donuts she has. Now THAT will be a fun conversation. Next time you go to Univ, take the tour. Ask for Chris C. Tell her Agent Pat sent you. You'll be in like flint. She's great that way. Chris has a nick name too: "FOX Plant." Yup, it means what you think it does. LOL ;)

Is it a roller coaster ride? I'm not big on roller coasters. This place is bad enough. LOL Seriously. I do LOVE the Back to the Future ride though. It hasn't changed in years, but nobody cares 'cause it's that good.

LMAO!! Check out one of the newly posted promo shots from "Devoted" that K-site posted yesterday:

http://www.kryptonsite.com/devotedgallery14.htm

Notice anything out of the ordinary in that photo? ;)
(Hint - look at the woman in pink in the background. Note the W/T and ID badge. Can you say, PA? Hee!)

AgentPat said:

Sorta, but not really. :)
It's an indoor ride. You sit in a car and wear 3D glasses, then between the movement of the car and the surround-vision in 3D, you get the sensation of moving VERY fast and often falling off the edges of buildings and the like. Giant Spidey jumps on the hood for a while too. It's one of those rides that I just laughed my head off for the whole thing. There's a brief clip of what the ride is like here: Spidey

Oh, and it's well worth the $$ to stay on property if you can, that way you get speedpasses that literally let you bypass almost every line.
