It's an historic moment, but I remember what Whoopie Goldberg said after Halle's "I've open the door for black women" quote: "Wow, I thought I had already did that before".

Yeah I remember that too. Thing is, Halle Berry was the first black actress to take the "Best Actress" Oscar in history. So in a sense, that was a new door opened for actresses in that culture.

Whoopi was incorrect in her statement, because while she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress--she was not the first African American actress to do so. That honor goes to Gone With The Wind's Hattie MacDaniels.

There have been several actors of color who've won "Best Supporting Actor" awards, but only three have gotten the top-tiered golden statue.

Anyways...back on topic.
