Here is where you can post your opinions on this topic, because frankly, we all know they are the two biggest hitters. Keep it clean, lets not bicker, but hopefully there can be some good discussion over this.

I'm going to have to say The Dark Knight.

I'm going to have to say The Dark Horse? Outrageous!

TDH? What's that? Never heard of it.

When I walked out of Watchmen I was thinking 'this is better than TDK', but I'm watching TDK right now on dvd and am not sure, having only seen WM once I find it hard to compare which I like more right now, boring answer but true. The true test will come with the director's cut of WM, which is the true finished film.
Jackie Earle Haley is as great to watch onscreen as Heath Ledger though, I'd say that was a definite, wish there was an option to watch the movie with his face showing all the way through, would love more Kovacs in prison on the DC, the way he played the death scene was beyond amazing, one of the best scenes ever.

Well The Dark Horse is more entertaining and probably In General people would choose it.

BUT

The Watchmen is movie masterpiece.

They are both good

Too close to call. I love them both.

TDK
once the hype dies down I'm sure most will agree

I really liked Watchmen, but TDK is just the better film overall. Watchmen is a fantastic adaptation but is a so-so film at times. I do agree with Ebert's argument about caring more about the characters in TDK, which probably amplified my enjoyment a bit (I mean that from the perspective of caring about the more human characters in TDK, tough I did feel the same way about Dan in Watchmen)

They are both superior superhero films though. Probably the two best and they both deserve to be held in high esteem, as above the regular comic book fare

TDK is so amazing that it's pretty freaking hard for any comic movie to match it. TDK is better, but Watchmen is still an amazing movie.

besides both dealing with mature themes and showing realistic characters the styles are pretty opposite to I can't really say, at least yet.

TDK. Now I think a fair case can be made for Watchmen being the second best superhero film ever made (I'm not sure if it is for me, but it's in my top 5, I know). But TDK is just such a visceral movie that demands your attention from the first shot and never lets up. You can't take your eyes off of it. It is just a really well told story perfectly done on film with so much depth and pathos.

Watchmen is a very good movie, but it is flawed in its inability to pull audiences' in and just doesn't have the visceral or emotional punch that TDK has, despite being an amazing feat in its own right.

I'm going to give the victory to Watchmen,it was more charismatic and stimulating than it. And this is coming from a really gigantic Batman fan. It's been almost 21 years for me since I saw the first Batman movie and thanks to the Watchmen movie it is no longer my favorite comic book movie of all time. And now that I think of it thanks to Watchmen,The Dark Knight is pretty damn boring compared to it.

I'll have to see Watchmen again to really peg it, but for now TDK is the better movie. It builds its plot in a way Watchmen wasn't able to. This is where being TOO faithful to the comic is a detriment, because shooting a compelling comic panel-for-panel, beat-for-beat doesn't mean the movie will be as compelling. They're different mediums, and the human eye/brain consumes them in different ways.

Then again, we're pitting structure king Nolan to visual master Snyder. Memento and The Prestige vs. Dawn of the Dead and 300. So I guess that fight isn't fair. :oldrazz:

I really liked Watchmen, but The Dark Knight is easily the better film in just about every way possible (except for maybe action, but that's debatable anyway).

If Batman didn't kill Harvey Dent (right after saving the Joker and going on about his one rule) it would be a much harder decision.

I'm gonna go with The Darkest Hour. ;)
