Time ago it was Zack Penn, but now it seems that is Josh Schwartz who will write this movie:

Young X-Men Get Gossip Girl Scribe?

In some odd Friday evening news, BlackBook magazine talked to Josh Schwartz, the writer and executive producer of shows like "The O.C.," "Gossip Girl" and "Chuck" (soon to be getting his own comic book!) and found out that he'd taken over the job of writing a screenplay for a Young X-Men movie (that title still hasn't been confirmed) which originally was to be written by Zack Penn. What's even odder than that juicy news is that BlackBook then took the story down, even though you can still see the original post at the link below. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, we were able to grab some of the original text which had Schwartz saying some rather unflattering remarks about his superhero peers and predecessors:

Something he can talk about, however, is news that he will pen the screenplay for the next installment of X-Men, a prequel of sorts. "I'm very well aware that I'll be bludgeoned by purists, but I love its mythology, and it comes with a pretty hefty paycheck." Of the project, he beams with excitement about the opportunity to involve lesser known X-Men characters who haven't yet been portrayed on film. It will center on teenage characters at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. "It's not like I'm adding new characters like Toaster Head, or anything like that." Despite his enthusiam, he's cautious, given the double-edged sword inherent in the seemingly inexhaustible renaissance of the genre. "The Hulk looks like it's going to be terrible. And why does he look like he's fighting against the monster from Cloverfield? I mean, with Transformers, it's not like fans were going to come back saying, 'You used the wrong car.' This, however, is a different story." Of his predecessors and their successes (or failures), he says, "Brett Ratner didn't have a lot of credibility going in to the third X-Men movie, but I think Bryan Singer [who directed the first two installments] got a free pass on Superman Returns because of his work on X-Men."

Original thread:

I create this thread to talk about the Zak Penn's "Young X-men" spin-off.

What are your thoughts?, Which Team would you like?, Any plot ideas?

Any news about it? more Zak quotes?

New mutants

- Of all of this, Which would you like in the spin-off?

From X-men Evo:

Magma
Jubilee
Wolfsbane
Sunspot
Berzerker
Cannonball
Boom Boom

From Generation X:

Marrow
Chamber
Husk
M

I don't want to see any of the characters in Angamb's picture, aside from perhaps Jubilee, who needs a nice slice of screentime.

The spin-off should focus on an entirely new set of characters. There are so many others who could be put in the spotlight.

And yes, then the film would flop. This film needs at least Rogue and Iceman of those above to actually be a SUCCESS for Fox.

Jubilee is the only one I desperately want to see in this film if it happens... she's more than well deserving at her chance to shine. Plus, Jubilee being a main player in an X-Film would up her chances at being in another X-Men videogame. :D I can't get enough of her character, plus Kea Wong is hot.:O

I think this spin-off will give some known characters more time to be explored, so I see this team in the spin-off, more a few new characters, of course, some from the Evo serie wouldn't be bad...

none of them?! none of them? Colossus, with his 2 minutes of screen time so far in the xmen series is not in need of screen time?

angel, night crawler and shadow cat will all be officially in one of the 3 xmen movies

and we will get to see iceman ice up maybe once or twice in the whole trilogy

fact is...jubilee is not by any means the coolest xmen, and many of these side characters in the xmen trilogy are in need of screen time, i agree, may be like gambit or so, but none of these xmen?

personally there are many cool storylines that i would like to see them get into, colossus with illyana, or angel to archangel

i'm just not sure what xmen you would like to see, if you're basically taking out like 10-12 of the main main x-men outside of gambit, jubilee, and bishop

All the female members of the spin-off:

Really good, don't?

From the students of the school in X-men Evo, which mutants would you like to be in this spin-off?

Iceman
Nightcrawler
Shadowcat
Colossus
Gambit
Angel
Jubilee
Rogue
Best

but not from evo, just those xmen...just because i really did not like evo personally i think its the worst rendition of xmen (including x1) but whatever some people like somethings, and other people like other things

Anyone who know the Evo, and the mutant names of those students, like Amara, Robert, Sam...?

Robert (Dacosta)... Sunspot
Sam (Guthrie)... Cannonball
Amara (???)... Magma????

And I think the movies should be based on the comics, not based on Evo, which is in turn based on the comics... (or other cartoons... regardless, eventually it goes back to the comics).

As far as the mutants to center on:

Center:
Iceman (leader)
Shadowcat
Colossus
Rogue

Peripheral:
Jubilee
Bishop
Gambit

Thanks GL1! but what about Nightcrawler and Angel? and the spin-off I mean...

I don't know if it would flop. Rogue and Iceman are hardly holding the movies together. They can be in X4 anyway. A spin-off could take an entirely new roster of mutants as long as they somehow related it back to the X-movies in some way.

I guess I'm not averse to seeing some of the existing characters in it, as long as we see some new ones take centre stage as well.

Well, there is likely to be an X4, so that's the best place for continuing the stories of those who are in X3....

I just want to see lots of OTHER mutants - Gambit, Sunspot, Cannonball, Chamber, M, Husk, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Wolfsbane etc... There are DOZENS of characters who haven't had any screentime at all. If there is an X4, Gambit is likely to be in that.

If there isn't an X4, we'll probably see the X3 characters cropping up in the spin-offs. But I want to see some fresh characters after X3. There are so many, many characters who haven't been featured yet.

I think Fox will do X4 or the young x-men spin-off, but not both, except the spin-off don't include characters from the main saga.

Although I would like to see some of them in it, I'll never be tired of those characters. I still want more of Rogue, Nightcrawler, Angel, etc. don't know you guys, but that's my wish.

How I can create a poll in this same thread?

right right, i can here that, definatley if there is an x4 i agree with you because if there is an x4 the lineup will more then likley be the carry overs who need more screen time (ala, colossus, iceman, beast, nightcrawler, angel, shadowcat..etc..) and gambit probobly

so yeah if there is an x4 i can here ya...i definatley think more mutants would be cool, like how the comics have havok as a more main character, that would be neat to see, and polaris, some old school mutants who don't get to much props

I want a young x-men because then Jean can be in it too when that is unlikely if there is an X4

Is Mercedes Yvette, an actrees who was rumored to be M in X3.

Stupid question but who is M? Like what are her powers?

M is Monet St. Croix.

superhuman strength, speed, agility, endurance, reflexes, invulnerability and intelligence, night vision, hearing, healing factor, low-level telepathy, flight
