Both incredibly overrated.

I liked 300, and dawn of the dead...and loved man of steel. Have yet to see watchmen and sucker punch.

The Avengers and The Dark Knight, overrated? In comparison to Man of Steel? :lmao::pal::hehe:

I trust Snyder with the DC universe more than I do WB, though I want a more creative and consistently strong person to move it forward. I do think whenever he does something any more than something inherently low concept, it becomes something edgy and divisive. I want a more consistent director to do the first JL film, though I don't mind if he did a sequel or something.

Also, lol at Zack showing Henry the effects of Zod's heat vision.

Though I like Zack as a director. That gif shows him doing what you should never do when directing actors. Never SHOW them what you want them to do, because it destroys their creation of the character and makes them mimic your demonstrations.

Avengers and The Dark Knight are both better than Man of Steel.

But they aren't better than Watchmen.

My main issue with Snyder is that I can't ignore him.
I don't go in much for the hatred thing, so if i come across a film maker I don't like I can usually just disregard his work.
With Snyder I can't do that, because the man absolutely insists on almost exclusively applying his dubious 'talents' to things I love.
Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen, Superman, and now Batman...

It's a problem. :o

True, but I think I'd rather watch MOS over TA. The latter may be the overall better film, but at least MOS has some substance. TA is the most forgettable superhero film I've seen in quite a while.

And Snyder doesn't over-sexualize his female characters? :cwink:

With the kind of cinema Snyder is making, I see nothing wrong with it and think it is awesome.

But it has to be acknowledged that even he has over-sexualized women.

I mean in MOS; where he didn't have random shots of women walking around in skimpy outfits or just treating them as prizes for his male characters to win over at the conclusion of the film.

I've heard people talk about how oversexualised Silk Spectre is but this wasn't Snyder, that was Alan Moore and in 300 there is nothing oversexualised about female characters because the movie is all about how you can oversexualise men for straight male, straight female and gay audience under 2 hours :P

Sucker Punch is anime, people never complain about how women are beign portrayed in anime so why complain here ?

I disagree. I've watched Avengers 5 times on blu ray since it was released and every time I get something out of it. The great thing about Avengers is that it delivers on what a Superhero movie should do. Moments that the audience can vicariously live through. I'm talking about moments like when Iron Man stops the terrorists in Iraq in Iron Man 1 and when Hulk smashes the Chitauri flying whale. Those amazing heroic moments where the protagonist does something so amazing and cool that you get a little giddy thrill like it was you who did it. That's why most people watch and love Superhero movies.

I like Man of Steel but it feels like a great movie that's let down by a few strange script choices and odd pacing that is obviously the result of a studio forced cut.

I think the sucker punch females were over-sexualized, even if there was an anime excuse for it. And silk spectre might have been a little bit too. But I don't think the females in 300 or MOS were, which was nice to see. Sucker punch made me fear for the worst in that area, but I was proven wrong.

300 has some sexualizing going on for the women too. Gorgo wears a gown so flimsy in one scene that if she so much as took a deep breath, her entire dress would fall away and she would be entirely naked.

And in the sex scene, there is actually a slow motion shot of Gorgo's nipples bouncing as Leonidas pounds her. There is also the nude oracle doing her sexy dance and the lesbian smooch in Xerxes tent. As I have said before, Snyder is equally opportunity. :woot:

And Silk Spectre was definitely sexualzied in Watchmen even more than Moore. I mean that tight latex costume in slow motion, and Snyder's camera lingering over Ackerman's beautiful naked body. Then another lesbian smooch! You name it.

MOS admittedly did not have it but 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch has plenty of sexy female stuff going on for the men in the audience.

That's fine. I understand why people like the film. I like the film. I just don't think it's anything special. I forgot about it an hour after I saw it. I tried watching it again a month or two ago and couldn't summon the interest to get past the first fifteen minutes or so. I think it's outrageously overrated, and did nothing to deserve the sheer amount of praise it gets, but I don't expect everyone else to feel the same way.

As much as I dislike MOS, it (at least) stuck with me.

I feel the same. I don't think Avengers is bad or anything, but I don't find anything special beyond the awesome action scene at the end. I watched the whole movie the first time, but when I watched it again, I just skipped to the action scene at the end. And while I liked MOS more than you did, I find it flawed. And I appreciated that it does have some substance.

I would not care if I never saw TA again. It was funny, the action was good, and it didn't suck. That's the best I can say about it, really.

I like Snyders work warts and all... though I admit the few mistakes he did make on Watchmen were significant enough to severely hurt the overall film.

I feel the same way about Avengers.... the main reason why I cant just shout it praises to the world is because I just dont enjoy the Marvel characters as much as I do the DC characters.....push comes to shove that is at the core of why I prefer even a slightly flawed movie like MOS over Avengers.

Take Avengers and keep it all the same except you switch the team out for the JL and I would be all over it regardless of how truly light on substance it is.

The only Marvel character which im truly a fan of is Spiderman but they just dont know how to establish the tone or characters of anyone whenever Spidey is not onscreen. (emma did pretty good in the last film)

What mistakes did you think he made on Watchmen?

I love Snyders work personally. Yeah he's got some issues with pacing and character development but his visuals are just breath taking most of the time. Im even a fan of SuckerPunch…which I know is rare. I personally don't need an award winning quality film out of movies I watch to just have fun with. Snyder just fills a visual niche for me unlike a lot of other directors do.

If you disregard the story and script of Suckerpunch and instead watch it as a purely visual experience or imagine it's one big music video then it's incredibly enjoyable.
