Great villian like presence....like from Potter fims and the patriot....wasnt he in LOTR to?

Isaacs would make a brilliant Lex. But no Isaacs was in the Harry Potter films playing Lucius Malfoy, Draco's father.

This re-boot could work

Look at Begins and The Incredible Hulk. I loved both films.

Man, I hope Cavill gets the part. I really hope they go for the same age range as Superman Returns (but this time cast an actress who can seem older than she is, which Bosworth didn't).

Look, I know Cavill is young (he looks about the same amount of "too young" now as Routh did back when he was cast) but I'd much rather have a slightly babyfaces Superman who could, if they could keep it up, play the part for a good 20 years. Cast a 38 year old now and you limit yourself to knocking out a trilogy before the actor gets too many grey the have to recast... AGAIN.

Why can't there be a Supeman for a generation? A Superman we can follow throughout his whole career from early days to freaking DKR or Kingdom Come?

And I've longed to see Clancy Brown play live action Luthor for so damn long now. It's not even that he was great as the animated version, it's that he's a great actor period and could be everything Luthor is meant to be. Just watch him in Carnivale and you'll see. He IS over 20 years older than Cavill and ideally lex wouldn't be that much older than Supes, but I'd be willing to cast older - it'd be worth it. He's the same age as Kevin Spacey by the way.

Allthough someone like Jason Isaacs is definitely the right direction to go in for alternate choices - and seriously, anyone who thinks being in the Potter films should rules him out for that is just being silly.

And David Bowie as Brainiac, digitally de-aged!

Only 1 guy fits your criteria:

Too bad he's damn-near 50!!!

(Runner-ups: Colin Farrell, Ben Affleck)

THIS is what I'm talking about with casting young. Would a Pitt or a Depp at age 25 be right for Supes? No, but even pretty boys get rugged with age, but those two are the type to keep their looks and not go all craggy. If Cavill ages similarly well to guys like that (and he looks like the type who could if he looks after himself)... can you imagine what Cavill might look like at 45?

I mean Jesus, if Chris Reeve hadn't had his accident HE probably would have still been fine for Supes at 45 - they could have made Superman Returns (or something very much like it) in 1995 and had it be a proper ending to the old franchise which is what it really should have been.

I definitely don't think Luthor should be the same age as Supes. That'd be way too young, especially when your lead is likely going to be in his late 20s.

I'd personally go for someone who looks like they are in their mid-to-late 30s. Someone believable as an established businessman. Anyway, my personal choice has always been Jason Isaacs:

You've prolly seen him in Harry Potter, most recently. He's a fantastic actor and has the perfect look/presence for that vengeful and power-hungry boss. Other than him, I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Now there's a man I can definitely see as Luthor.

Well, I've been scratching away at this for a while. I'll keep amending it as I refine my selections and more names are put out that I like, but this will do for now.

BTW, any ideas on who should play Jimmy Olsen?

I love everyone there except Jason Issacs and I am a little unsure about Hathaway.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and throw in Zac Efron for Jimmy. I dunno it's a wild suggestion I suppose.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I am hoping WB goes after Henry Cavill as well. He has aged really well and looks like Superman. He is a much better actor than any of the other guys listed so far and yet he is still fairly unknown in Hollywood. I've seen an interview of him on Youtube and he comes across as a nice guy yet you can tell from this video that he has the intensity to be Superman.

She can act plus she's very attractive. Just thought about her when I saw the trailer for Eagle Eye this evening. So I cast her name into the hat.

guys kate bosworth looked like a 13 teenager.
if there is a reboot we can have now a mature and sexy looking lois lane.

not bad. not bad. she is not old enough. she doesnt look to young or to old. a perfect looking girl for a reboot.

Mate she's 32. That's not at all a bad age. Mind you I thought she was younger too. She's even older than me by 3 months. ;)

I think I'm gonna stick with her now. She's got a load of talent under her belt so WB take note!!

well personally, since the fan favourite cavill is now everybody's first choice.

its time we go for Mia Kirschner for Lois!!

i think those two would be a great pairing!

Well, she shouldn't look especially older than Clark, so it depends how old the actor who plays him is. If it's a reboot with an origin story I'd guess he won't look too old.

Look at Begins and The Incredible Hulk. I loved both films.

Begins made less than SR and TIH made less than Ang Lee's Hulk. I liked Begins and TIH but I'm sure the execs' problem is BO numbers.

I rather have Brandon Routh as Superman. He is Superman

Henry Cavill is the best Superman candidate I've ever seen. First, he's a solid actor, second, his look is perfect in terms of bone structure, and third and most importantly, he has the most Superman-like qualities that I've seen from anyone other than Christopher Reeve. Cavill has an innocence about him, a true goodness. It is a quality that an actor must naturally possess for it cannot be acted and Cavill has it. Yet, at the same time as seeming completely pure and good, he doesn't seem naive. He possesses the quality of physical as well as moral strength, competence, and nobility. He looks like an intelligent man who believes in the best in people and is capable of leading people to become their best. That is Superman.
