The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The one, the only SPIDEY Costume thread!

I love the swinging in this movie. It seems effortless for him to gain altitude whereas in the last one he needed a lot more buildup to get going. Seemed very street level.

They eyes are one of my favorite parts of this new suit. Spectacular.

I think the opposite. That's what was great about TASM swinging, it felt "weighty", grounded (excepting some iconic poses). The trailer only has some of those weighty moments, what a shame.

Yeah, I kind of agree with this. In some scenes in the trailer, it looked sort of like he was floating with a web line in his hand. It wasn't terrible, it just seemed like there was less gravity than the swinging scenes in TASM

The costume is dang near perfect. The eyes really seal the deal on that and make it as amazing as it is.

Just hope they keep the velocity of Spidey's swing like the first one as far as the costume goes it keeps getting better and better

The swinging in TASM was neat because it was more realistic and something we've never seen before... But even the police chase scene was meh... You could tell he was on a wire the entire time, it didn't look fluid at all. Not to mention the last part of him under the bridge where you see him swinging, practically, then it turns back and it looks 100% CGI. Looked like crap. The swinging towards the end was better, but it was too street level for me. How is he supposed to fight Electro and Goblin when they can fly and he's swinging at a realistic ground level? It doesn't work. They needed to step it up this time around and they did, completely okay with the swinging I see. Love it.

From 0:33- 0:45 it's practical... Then from 0:45- 0:51 it looks like total CGI. Doesn't look right, like they used two different methods. Wasn't impressed. Besides, the 0:33- 0:45 swinging looked like garbage, I know he was just getting the hang of it but it wasn't "Spidey" looking. Just someone hanging from a rope.

I'm not sure about the suit in this movie. In some shots, it looks just as awesome as the Raimi suit. But in other shots, it looks like a cheap spandex Halloween costume. Anyone else feel this way about it? What's up with that? Is it that the material just looks different in different lighting, or are there two different suits (that are really supposed to be the same one)?

I agree with you. I find it unfortunate to go back to less realistic, more fake feeling animation. I understand he's a more confident, expert swinger now. But I'd still like it to obey physics and feel completely real.

Maybe you're seeing the difference between the practical suit and the CGI version. I'd expect the CGI to improve by the time the film releases. They also have different suits made for Andrew and the stunt guys...not sure about the differences.

Yeah, I don't know. In some of the shots, the material looks really cheap but maybe it's just because I'm watching it on a computer screen, I don't know.

It's usually smart to hold off judgement of a film's CGI until the actual release. So often those shots are improved in the final film or cut altogether.

That said, even with the trailer showing a lot of CGI stunts, the first film went through so much effort to stick to real actors as often as possible that I'm not going to worry about it until I see the film itself. IMHO, the fights and web-swinging were one of the aspects of ASM that easily topped Raimi's films.

material looks cheap because it's CGI model. Most of web-sling scenes are pure CGI including Spider-man (example later part of falling from sky). Some scenes looks finished and good, but only because they were pratical stunts made on the green-screen. You could say transition between practical stunts with green-screen and pure CGI with Spider-man included is very rough, it's not polished :yay:

Are you watching in full HD (1080p)? That can make a big difference. Most of the CGI is still not fully polished so that will cause a greater margin between the practical suit and the computer generated one. The CGI will tend to look too soft in comparison. By the time the film releases the CGI will look better on those terms and the margin will be closer.

Chit, I just noticed (yes, I'm slow).

The ASM gloves didn't have any real webbing on them. At all.

Can't believe I hadn't tought of how unique the design was before.

I really thought the hand area in particular was a busy, illogical mess of a design. Way too much going on in too small a space.

I like the busier look they went for with the TASM suit. You can tell it was an obvious design choice to differentiate/modernize the iconic suit. Although don't get me wrong, I love that they went back to the classic. You just can never go wrong with it.

Yeah, I really liked the design of the ASM suit, as well. It was a pretty bold move on their part, and it worked out quite well.

I'm loving the ASM2 suit, of course, but it kinda sucks that they abandoned the previous design, almost completely.

I like when the suit wrinkles, bunches and and creases. that makes it much more realistic.

Yup! I'm reading Marvel Knights Spider-Man right now and wrinkles are a noticeable point in his costume.

I like how people accuse the costume of being a costume... Isn't that the entire point? :P

Wrinkles are part of Webb's "grounded" universe. Lol.
