Really? This goal from Salah apparently won the Puskas Award for best goal..

Who the **** votes on these things? What about Bale's overhead kick in the Champions League final? Or Ronaldo's overhead kick in the semi-final?

Luka Modric also wins the FIFA Player of The Year 2018 ahead of Ronaldo & Salah. I believe this is a seperate award to the Ballon d'Or but don't quote me on that.

Jorginho breaks Premier League passing record but Chelsea are held by West Ham

This is somewhat of a meaningless stat given that Chelsea failed to win, but to me it only reaffirms what you actually can see when you watch Jorginho play. People can rant & rave about Sarri being the man mainly responsible for Chelsea's sudden shift from being quite a passive side to one being more actively looking to have the ball a lot more. While this is true to an extent because he's picking the team, Jorginho is the main architect behind their sudden shift because of his ability to control the tempo & shape of the team with his movements & passing range.

Really good signing in my opinion, his stats will never reflect how intelligent & important a player he is & could further become for Chelsea.
True for sure, but I think a big part of the reason Jorginho is at the club is because of Sarri.

It's the only reason. He is so effective because of Sarri and his system. He fits it perfectly.

I’m pretty excited about how that system will develop although Chelsea either need to keep hold of Hazard or spend the money they get for him very well.

Good goal but doesn’t seem like a competition winning goal.

Hey at least Ashley actually turned up for a match this week! Is it still as grim up front for you guys? Any issues with Rafa regarding Mitrovic?
He's welcome to stay away.

Noone is standing out and looking like getting more than a few goals here and there. I'm not sure where the goals are going to come from so we need to get clean sheets at least. Strange times to be a Toon fan lol. I think Mitrovic moving to Fulham was best for everyone, him us and Fulham. I don't think Rafa regrets the sale as he doesn't fit his system and was always a risk with temperament. We got half decent money for him at least.

Sarri and Jorginho is like a perfect marriage that started at Napoli and has now moved into a bigger house in Chelsea where they can make trophies together. :nrv: :funny:

Without a doubt, if Sarri hadn't went to Chelsea he'd either have remained in Napoli were he'd no doubt have flourished under Ancelotti as well or went to City.

There's no denying Sarri has changed Chelsea's overall tactical approach to games compared to Conte, but Jorginho is a massive part of how successful they are in keeping the ball & the tempo in which they play.

I would love for United to have a player with his intelligence & ability in the middle again. I really have a lot of time for those types of central midfielders, Xavi, Pirlo, Scholes, Kroos, Xabi Alonso to name a few, players that play somewhat of a quarterback type role, they sit deep, spread teams out, dictate the tempo & shape that your team takes, Jorginho obviously still has a ways to go before he can be compared with some of those all time greats.

For all the brilliance the likes of Messi & Ronaldo flair type players have pulled off over the years, there is something special about excelling at the 'simple' stuff to a consistent level.

I would love to see a player like that at United again as well, we had Scholes and then Carrick also offered many similar traits, this team has not adequately replaced him, a CM to be the brain, Pogba is the creative spark in the final 3rd and Fred has the legs, but we lack the midfielder that controls the tempo and sets the table so to speak, who moves the pieces around the board with intelligent passing, Scholes would sometimes make 3 passes to get into a position to make a really telling pass through the lines, that kind of vision and awareness of the game is not easy to come by. This is why for me Ruben Neves should be 1 of 3 priority signings this coming summer, he reminds me so much of Xabi Alonso as he has a some physical steel to him as well and would be an ideal repalcement for Carrick at the base of our midfield.

Another fine result tonight, nice 2-2 draw a home to Derby, followed by the obligatory pen shoot out loss thanks to the boot of Phil Jones. We are beyond parody now.

We've only ourselves to blame, for one, Mata, Martial & in particular all had glorious chances to bury the game. We could & probably should have been 2 or 3-0 up after about 20 minutes. Then a 30 yard free kick flew in, Romero has a brain fart, we then concede & once again for all the abuse even myself gives him about his ability it's ****ing Felliani who saves a total embarrassment as opposed to a partial one.

Another thing, for such a tactical manager, I have absolutely no idea why Mourinho waited so long to throw on Fred or Felliani to help us get some control in the middle of the park. Matic & Herrera were getting absolutely outrun in the middle because Derby seemed to have men man marking Matic & Herrera + another 2 or 3 players as spare doubling up on them closing their passing avenues down. We were then rushing into hasty passes. The only plausible reasoning I can think of is that maybe he thought they wouldn't be able to keep up that level of pressing for 90 minutes & given that it left gaps for Martial & Lingard to have on the break he was content to let it ride out.. ? I thought he'd almost certainly have changed it at half time as while we'd created good chances, control of the tempo was in Derby's favour because of their pressing.

To think, who was it? Moyes or van Gaal? Apparently one of them buried the move for Kroos from Bayern, I think it was LvG if I recall correctly.. which is odd because I think he's the one that brought/introduced Kroos through Bayern's ranks after a couple of loans.

I agree completely, these types of players do not grow on trees & you often get players playing in the same sort of role, that just don't have the vision, intelligence, concentration & passing accuracy to really play the role at that elite level. It's something we're missing in the middle, obviously though I feel our main priority transfer wise in the summer, regardless of who the manager is, is to get at least 2, first team ready defenders.

I'm done with Jose. he has to be let go. i don't care if he has to be paid millions. Get. Rid. Of. Him.

NO tactics, NO thought with the two subs he could use, NO sign of him trying to change things to win the game. Then he puts Jones up that high on the list for Penalties. I don't give a damn that Pogba is talking about the problems with Jose in public, removing him (and then the captaincy) was the wrong move. The board need to man up and sack him if they can't trust him with transfers.

This season is barely started and it's done. we're done... because of Jose.

Yeah, it was LvG that didn't want Kroos for some reason, it was Thiago Alcantara that Moyes put the kibosh on, another quality player in this mold that we could have benefited massively from.

It's hard to aregue that agaisnt the need for 2 CB's when Chris Smalling is the clubs top CB, I mean right now none of the others even look remotely like they are good enough to start reguarly, but maybe the right one brought in can lift a couple of the others, as I feel we must address the holding role, this Matic/Fellaini stop-gap can't continue, and we MUST buy a proper right sided forward, someone who actually thrives there, and not just someone stuck out there to fill in as we don't have some who is a specialist in the position.

Agree with you on everything mate but when Jones took the penalty there was only him, Bailly and Grant left that could have taken that penalty as we were down to ten men and seven had already taken one.

United's best chance for a trophy this season ...gone.

Jose is not looking too healthy right now.

Imagine your former player managing a championship team for less than 4 months as their first management job and beating you with a squad valued 823 million below yours. The real specialist in failure.

After his recent comments about Pogba not being captain anymore it feels like we’ve moved into the next phase of meltdown mode.

Stripping arguably the crown jewel at the club of the captaincy in such a public fashion has hallmarks of the Hazard incident at Chelsea before that little meltdown started.

The media are acting like Mourinho stripping him of the vice-captaincy was for his blunder at Wolves that cost us the goal, which is BS, that was without a doubt for his comments about how United approach home games particularly against perceived 'lesser' opponents. I see a lot of United fans on Twitter defending Pogba, saying he's right & the fans have been saying that since Mourinho took over etc, especially after last nights result, but regardless of your feelings on Mourinho as manager, surely everyone can see how Pogba's recent comment(s) are a problem.

Looking forward to Wilson eventually returning from loan and competing for a 1st team place. One hell of a talent.
