Yo hypsters, I just thought I'd make this thread for you to praise or complain about your life-long companions, or query others about their pets, or just say what pets you'd like. I have a whole managerie beady-eyed things, as follows;
  • 7 Budgies (Was ten, three brothers died near enough at the same time); Climpy, Nugget, Fudgie, Parsely, Beefer, Tuti and Basil
  • 4 rats (The first two are boys, second two are girls); Tumtum (Tumble), Tiddles, Ginny and Juice
  • 1 Degu (A fat squirrel); Fidget
  • 1 Tarantula (My wickle bestest baby girl); Fluffy.
Soon to be added:
  • 1 Snake; Either Lucozade or Prozac
  • Another Tarantula; Furby
As you may have noticed, I name my animals strange and random names!

Anway, post some of your pets here!

2 Diamondback Terrapins, one Razorback Musk turtle, one Veiled Chameleon.

I would really love to have a cat, but I'm at university and living in a small 1 room apartment. I cant help but feeling should I get a cat it would get miserable because of the small space :(

This is my cat Hoojibs.

I don't have any pets currently. But i've had three pets in my life.

Welly is the dog my mum had when I was born right up until I was about 10 years old. She got her from battersea dogs home, and she was a labrador crossed with a whippet. Such a good natured dog. The kind of dog that helped people who were afraid of dogs feel better about them, because she was just so good and gentle.

Then a stray cat found it's way into our lives, and we called her Willow. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of her on my computer. Will have to update this post when I find some back home :) She was a very dog like cat, very affectionate. And she looked after me. I used to be scared to go to the toilet in the night when I was a kid, and somehow she always followed me in :)

Finally, we adopted Wispa (noticing the 'W' name theme?), who was found wandering the streets. She was a collie crossed with a terrior. I've never met a dog with so much character. Super intelligent, and with such an expressive face.

my preference is cats... they're independent and you don't have to walk them or clean up after them each and every time and they don't eat you out of house and home...

I used to have dogs but I despise them now... all they seem to do is clean their balls and then immediately want to be your friend and lick your face afterwards... or else they're always sticking their nose in your crotch when you're sitting...

no thanks... I'll prefer the stuck-up feline as opposed to the overly-friendly canine any day of the week from now on...

When I was in college I was I the same situation, living in a studio apartment where I wasn't allowed to have a cat, so I empathize with you. But there are ways you could make your apartment a good environment for a cat, if you have the space and a little money.

Cats need to play, to scratch and stretch themselves out, so you could get a compact cat tree and plenty of toys for him. There is cat furniture available that can fit neatly into a corner and has carpeting and space for the cat to climb and perch. Catnip-filled mice are always fun, and there are toys that can be hung on doorknobs for kitty to bat at. If you also make sure to play with your cat each day and get in some cuddling, you can keep him very happy.

Another thing you could consider is training your cat to walk on a leash and harness. Young cats take to this more easily than older ones, I've been told. Being able to explore outside, in the company of an owner who can keep him from getting lost ot finding trouble, can help alleviate boredom.

I had a beagle named Bilbo Baggins (before LOTR was cool) when I was younger. He found out that we would feed him if he was feeling poorly, so he used to take pratfalls down the stairs and then fake a limp afterward. Inevitably, since he was a dog, he would forget which paw he was supposed to be favoring, and would then freeze and try to figure it out. He also knew that we would bring him in if it was cold outside, so in the Summer, Spring and Fall he would stand at the window and shiver. His greatest feat was eating an entire box of Valentine's Day chocolates and surviving...and then eating the replacement Valentine's Day chocolate as well, and surviving that.

I currently have a cat who likes to dress up in Build a Bear superhero outfits.

I have a mini beagle that me and my girlfriend got as an early Christmas gift to our selves, named him Dexter mainly after one my good friends who passed when I was younger and partially to the tv series that we enjoy watching. I also have a family dog that stays with my parents, Marley who is a Great Dane/black lab mix.

We put our dog down today. Terrible and sad day. I decided to stay in with him through the procedure and don't know if that was better or worse. We got him when I was 13. I'm now almost 28. He was never a pet, but family. I hope he's in a better place now. So sad.

Same here a couple weeks ago. I stayed the whole time, though to my mortification I started crying like a little girl.

Same here.

I feel like cats are more reflective of my own personality. Dogs are just overbearing.

Plus cats are so much lower-maintenance.

I've been crying all day. I had no idea my family was planning on putting him down, so all day I thought we were doing a regular visit until in the room with the doctors everyone agreed it was time. I'm taking this hard. All I can do is see his face. I just pray he's happy now and will always know how much he meant to us. Hopefully your recovery is going well. I wish this sadness upon anyone. I'm trying to think of the good times, but can only picture how I'll never see him again. Time heals all wounds.

I lost him almost 2 years ago. It broke my heart.

Since then, we've taken in some shelter cats.
