If there's one thing I've learned in my decade or so as a citizen of the internet, it's how utterly predictable fans are when suggesting cast members for film versions of their favourite properties. Here are a few I have observed.

  • If they played a similar role before, they will be suggested.(Example: Ian Mckellen played a wizard in Lord of the Rings, therefore if people were asked for suggestions as to who should play the wizard Shazam, he would undoubtedly be one of the fan favourites, or if the character is some sort of ancient warrior [greek, norse, roman, medieval, etc...] Gerard Butler will be suggested if they are male, and Lucy Lawless will be suggest if they are female])
  • If they ever had a similar hairstyle or shave as a character, they will be suggested, or shunned if they have not. (Example: Oded Fehr was one of the top suggestions for Tony Stark solely because he had a goatee, or ANYONE seen sporting a vandyke will be suggested for Green Arrow. Alternately, no matter how much he otherwise looks like the character, the actor who will eventually play Thor will initially reacted at with negativity and lots of "I just don't see it" if he doesn't have long hair. This is because fans lack any vision beyond what is right in front of them and seemingly refuse to acknowledge that anyone can grow or cut their hair in any style)
  • If the character is female Angelina Jolie will be a top suggestion
  • Unless she's black, in which case it will be Halle Berry
  • Or Asian, then it will be Lucy Liu. (Again, fans have very little vision and will almost always stick to the same tired, cliche'd choices)
  • Acting experience optional. (appearance is abo****ely the most important factor for fans and will make suggestions based on it with little to no regard for acting experience. Because of this you will often see professional wrestlers suggested for anyone over 200 pounds or 6 feet)
  • If they were in a film that recently came out, they will be a suggestion. (Also known as the "flavour of the week" rule. "300 was cool, huh? Okay let's suggest Gerard Butler for everything." "Daniel Day Lewis sure was swell in TWBB. He'd make a perfect... ANYONE."
  • If they were suggested but didn't get the role, they will be suggested for every and any role until they get one. (See: Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams)
  • When the role IS eventually cast, no matter how good the choice is, people will complain (barring a few exceptions)
  • After a while, no matter how bad the choice is, everyone will get behind it (barring a few exceptions)
  • Lastly, fan casting will always, always, ALWAYS be wrong.

So that's it. Anyone agree, disagree, have any additions?

Or how about you suggest a certain actor for a role only to be ripped apart by fanboys, who in turn suggest the same actor for the same role which ultimately leads to everyone praising said fanboy.

Christian Bale was a fan favorite for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Fan casting is often but not always wrong.

Yeah right, dumbass. That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard.

I just thought of another one: People who will insult other people over a casting suggestion and then turn around and make the same suggestion themselves.

I have to say, I don't recognize this at all.

yup, those rules are basically true.

You forgot that when it comes to casting female characters, fanboys take it as an opportunity to post about 10 pictures of the actress in her underwear, and then the post is quoted relentlessly throughout the thread.

lol, very true

Iagree with you odin except for the last one. To much emphasis on "always" but for the most part its right, but Bale, Pearlman, Stewart, and Eckhart I have seen mentioned for the roles they got.And i particularly always wanted Chiklis for Thing :P

I also agree that "talent is optional" when it comes to fan casting.Triple H for Thor or Ray Park for Iron Fist are just two examples

Adding to this would also be hair color. If the actor or actresses hair is not the same color as the comic counterpart they are automatically disqualified because hair dye has yet to be invented.

or get hung up on hair color that makes it to screen regardless of how well the actor pulls off the character (ie Human Torch)

missed this one the first time i read it. Definitely agree on this and guilty of it. Im a fan of Reynolds. Im excited for him to be Deadpool but i was more excited to see him as Wally West but its all good

Not necessarely to do with casting actors but...

According to fanboys only WETA and ILM should do the VFX of all movies , past , present and future.

When choosing directors the only choices are the ones that have made massive hits ( Spielberg , Raimi , jackson , Cameron)

When choosing directors , no fanboy mistake should be in their career. It doesn't matter if your career has 10.000 oscars wins , if you're movies haven't lived up to fanboy expectations , you will be ripped to shreds.
( Brian Singer , The wachowski brothers )

Indeed. To my knowledge at least , it's has been the only time when fanboy casting actually happened. In all other cases people were just way off.

WHo expected Heath Ledger as the Joker or better yet Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man

That reminds me, after someone is cast out of the blue there will always be someone who claims to have wanted him/her for the part all along.

:lmao:

I think Dr Hibert said is best . This describes the phases fanboys go thru

1 Denial

2 Anger

3 Fear

4 Bargaining

5 Acceptance

Damn that's pretty accurate, especially the Jolie one. She's be suggested for damn near every female comic book character you can think of.

:lmao:

  • If there is a role, Hugh Jackman or Christian Bale will be suggested for it. Even if it is that of a obese, asian woman.

Nathan Fillon is slowly becoming one of these casting suggestions.

He'd be a great Malcolm Reynolds if they ever turn those Serenity comic books into movies!

Hey... where's everyone going?

You just proved my point. :whatever:

If the role is age 37 the fans will suggest 21 year olds.

Age 35 is always "too old".

:thing: :doom: :thing:
