The Purge 2

First film had such a great concept and such a lousy execution. Not looking forward to this sequel, but I like Frank Grillo so maybe I'll give it a shot?

Seriously, sometimes it seems like every lower budgeted genre movie from the last few years is getting a sequel.

Except the one that actually deserves to:

why? they covered it all in the first one. they need to take a cue from Aesop. there weren't many sequels to his stories. they made their point and moved on.

There's a lot of potential in exploring a concept like The Purge, hopefully this guy will delve more into that world.

I was thinking Trick 'R Treat but then I remembered it is getting a sequel! :woot:

Speaking of, if Purge 2 does get made, I want to see something like T'RT where we have 3 or 4 stories interconnected on Purge night. If they really have to have another home invasion story, it can be one segment, but maybe the home owner is the star of a prior segment and pisses off a group, which then we switch to their POV for the next segment.

They seriously need to give this movie a subtitle.

The Purge 2: Repurgitated

Why the f*** is this getting a sequel? The original had so much potential. It made me upset.

Cause it made fat stacks of cash, yo! And a sequel is likely to make decent money especially if it's made on the cheap like the first film was.

Ethan Hawke has had such a strange career trajectory. He made one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2014, Before Midnight, and two absolute turds (Purge and Getaway).

He seems to do okay. Every year he has one or two great films and then he pads out his paycheck with a bunch of throwaway projects. Gotta pay for that private island somehow. His career is similar to Aaron Eckhart in that sense.

Well, it might not make all that much $$$$. It's jam packed and there are other movies that will look better. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the GA liked The Purge that much.

It was alright. It's the concept which is why I'm excited for a sequel

I work on a horror website and the general reaction towards the film is mixed. People are pretty divided about it. So if half the audience liked the first one and a portion of the audience that hated it is willing to give it another chance, it stands to make some money.

It had such a great concept, but had such a poor execution.

I agree, the concept was pretty good, but the overall film IMO seemed pretty meh. It was almost predictable, lets hope the sequel manages to fix that.

Returning alongside writer/director/producer James DeMonaco to produce the sequel to 2013′s sleeper hit are Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series), alongside Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers) and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay (Pain & Gain, Transformers franchise), Brad Fuller (The Amityville Horror, A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th).

Weird, I thought Frank Grillo was the main guy, but he's barely in the trailer.

Well in the trailer it seems they experience the purge in a open city instead of the house , more scope is a good thing i guess. Don't know why they would be on a damn road trip hours before the purge lol As some people have said the concept is great , the execution is average , why dont the damn filmcrew look at Escape from new york and Assault on precinct 13 (1976) thats what there trying to mimic anyway .

This trailer made me laugh, literally it looks horrible.

The trailer needed a wideshot of the city in peril. Instead, it looks like there's only 3 people rioting in LA.

Then again, this was a fast shoot and maybe a shot like that wasn't ready.

I absolutely love the concept of this film and of the first film, but after how bad the first one was (and that one had at least a name in it) I doubt this one will be much better, but I guess we'll see.
