Not surprised. The first was pretty meh but the sequel was a step in the right direction.

Grillo was basically Frank Castle in 'Anarchy', but it was better than the first for sure.

If Grillo and Williams are back, I'm there. Grillo's character was probably the closest we'll ever get to seeing him play Frank Castle, so I would watch ten more of these movies if they center around him.

When the first one came out, I thought the concept was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard, but the sequel turned it into a low-rent Hunger Games thing, which I thought was really cool.

I forgot I saw the second movie.

I liked the first movie, probably more than most of the people who saw it.
Liked the second movie even more, and I agree, Frank Grillo is a Punisher. I cheered when he shot the glass the rich hid behind, cheered more when he scared that bloody old rich hag and stole her car.

I'd rather it focused on different characters because it's supposed to be an anthology series, but Grillo was awesome.

I'm in as well. I hope they spend a tad more money on it this time and expand the scale and scope of the setting in which the story takes place even more.

Sane thoughts here. First was ok but I prefered the second it was a step in the right direction. Is it just me or does it feel like there's just still something missing in this series? I don't know what it is but there is something little missing just to make the films more enjoyable.

Also kids in these films suck in my opinion. In the first film they were annoying especially the son. And in Anarchy I hated the daughter, how she kept trying to be the voice of reason to Grillo's character. Just found the kids incredibly annoying and I wanted them to die haha.

I kind of get what you're saying.

To me, the films don't really know what category to fit in to. I think the first one was promoted quite heavily as almost a horror-type film, but I never ever got that vibe at all.

Yeah there is just a little something missing from making it really enjoyable. I can't put my finger on it but hopefully the 3rd finds that something.

I feel like the issue is that for such a limitless concept, they don't go far enough. This is why the first film kinda sucks. It's such a fresh concept but they don't do anything with it.

I think what's missing is a good central villain. They've kinda gone the Sauron/Big Brother route so far with the spectre of "the new founding fathers" hanging over everyone, and have relied on bit players as the main bad guys (wannabe Joker guy in the first one, machine gun trucker in the second). I think that approach worked okay, but for the third, I think they need to really show us who these sick f***ers are... and make them pay.

I agree with both of those. And the first film also messed up by keeping it located to just the central location in the house. We've already had films like that, with the whole idea of purging they finally took it to the streets in Anarchy. But like you said they need to push it farther and really establish a better villain per say.

OUIJA 2 Is Coming; Producer Brad Fuller Says THE PURGE 3 Is Not About the First Purge

Now on to a series that has a wealth of potential. Personally, I’m dying to see a political drama about how The Purge came to be, but I highly doubt that will happen anytime soon. There have been some rumors floating around claiming that The Purge 3 could show us what happened during the first Purge, but Fuller put a firm end to that:
“I read that too about the first night of The Purge. We don’t know anything about that. I read that and I haven’t heard that so I’m not sure what that was. The material that we’re considering right now is not the first night of The Purge.”
I had the opportunity to speak with Michael K. Williams about the third filmrecently and while he couldn’t 100% confirm his involvement, he did say, “you can definitely look to see Frank Grillo and my character,” and that would have to mean that the filmmakers are considering a story that follows the events of The Purge 2. However, based on what Fuller said regarding Grillo’s involvement, nothing is locked in yet:
“Listen, we loved working with him and we thought that he was so good in that role and, you know, if it works to have him back we would really be very excited about that.”

I hope they just turn the Purge films into The Punisher starring Frank Grillo.

Jason Blum Talks THE PURGE 3, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION and More

Per usual, Jason Blum’s got a lot in the works over at Blumhouse Productions. It would have been impossible to touch on all of his upcoming projects, but while catching up with Blum at SXSW for his next release, Unfriended, he did offer some brief updates on a select few films – The Purge 3, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost DimensionandCreep.
At this point, we know that James DeMonaco is returning to pen the Purge 3 script, but is he also locked to direct? Here’s what Blum had to say about that:
“Not yet, but I’m trying to talk him into it.”

We also know absolutely nothing about the plot of the film minus the fact that it’s got to include the 12-hour span of time that comes around once a year when all crime is legal. While promoting The Gambler back in December, Michael K. Williams did say, “You can definitely look to see Frank Grillo and my character” in the next installment, but according to Blum, nothing’s locked in yet:
“I hope so. We’re still kicking around different ideas for what the story is, although we’re getting closer, but I hope those guys are in it. I hope so, but I can’t tell you for sure.”
Whether or not Williams and Grillo make it into the film, you’ve still got to wonder, will The Purge 3 take the core concept to a new level? Blum insisted they will not disappoint:
“We never retread. It’s gonna be awesome! You just wait. And it’s gonna be new. It’s gonna be different.”

Also... Grillo and the Raid guys are in a sequel to Skyline? That's a surprise.
